CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

One of the reasons behind my love for manga is because, at its best, manga truly is a work of art. The drawings become the story just as much as the words do, if not more.

There were drawings in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle that truly took my breath away - heart-wrenching depictions of amazing story-telling that pull me into the story and into the characters lives, gorgeous illustrations of both characters and setting, quiet drawings that say more than words ever could - so there wasn't ever any question that I would love the collection of art from the series. This first art book covers the first 14 volumes of the series.

What can I truly say about this? It's CLAMP. They may not always be reliable when it comes to finishing a story, but they certainly make very beautiful art that you can stare at forever.

This book includes cover art and illustrations from the manga, but also some extra work they did for promotion or goodies for fans.
For every picture there is some backround information, trivia or some work process information compiled on the last few pages.
There is also a very cute bonus story in the back. If you ever wanted to know how what the other character got Yuko for White Day, you'll find out there!

I definitely loved to see some of my favorite pictures without writings on them or simply in color. There were also some that I had never seen before, making me especially happy.

Review for volume 1 & 2

I would have read the Tsubasa series just to justify getting these artbooks. It's CLAMP art, you can't do much wrong with getting these.

As with several other of CLAMP's artbooks, this one is filled with beautiful illustrations that almost tell a story of their own. It's nice to see the characters in colourful scenarios both from within the story but also just casual daily moments. As there are two volumes, one refers more to the first whereas the other refers more to the second half of the series. If you haven't finished reading the series, it's best to leave the second artbook alone as there are spoilers to be found.

Although both are beautiful and can be seen as one work, I slightly prefer the second volume as it includes xxxHolic illustrations. Not only are these coloured in Tsubasa style, which is a nice change from xxxHolic's more sombre colours, but also simply the fact that xxxHolic's own artbooks are insanely expensive and have yet to find their way into my collection.

There are a few short stories at the end of both volumes - they're fun but not essential. It's really the illustrations you'll want to get these two artbooks for, they're just perfect through and through.

Disegni spaziali, dai colori ammalianti e linee vorticose. L’arte delle Clamp scalda il cuore. Le informazioni in fondo al libro sono davvero interessanti: grazie a esse in ogni immaginare è possibile notare particolari tecnici che altrimenti sfuggirebbero

Gorgeous illustrations! I was already familiar with about 80% of these because most are already available online but there were a few discoveries. There's also a cute (yet short) comic at the end.

Just stunning, if you love Tsubasa I'd really recommend this. The drawings are beautiful. I'd seen most of them before but there were some I'd not, and they're a lot better on paper than on a computer screen.

I preferred this to the second probably because it's the less dark of the artwork as it covers the first half of the story. (Although I like the eyepatch it's nice to see Fai-San with both his eyes.)

I'm not really a big fan of Clamp but seeing that the price is pretty cheap,I went ahead and bought it, as I'm currently collecting various types of art books. I didn't expect much from it but this book surpassed that expectation. The arts is absolutely wonderful. I spent quite some time looking at each picture in the book, as opposed to some other art books, when I just flip over the pages quickly. The quality of the paper is also very nice, glossy paper that would get yellow over time. The binding is decent, I have nothing to complain about it. I also like that this book includes a lot of pictures of the guys. I don't know why that's relevant. Overall, if you're fond of Clamp art works, this book is very worth buying.
