When Private Detective Winter Black-Dalton receives a slew of messages from a mother desperate to protect her children after a traumatizing divorce, she takes the case without hesitation. Not only is it a welcome distraction from unpacking boxes, but Winter hopes to assuage the guilt still fusing her to her past.
She should have known better.
A crayon drawing of guns and "nakid notty girls" by her client’s five-year-old daughter hints at the wealthy and powerful father’s depraved activities. When the man in question warns Winter off the investigation, he reeks of cunning. But she has no hard facts, only impressions. And with no FBI badge to open doors, she needs to get creative.
But the more Winter investigates, she fears something far more sinister lurks beneath the surface. And when local call girls mysteriously disappear, Winter must risk it all to save other young women from the same fate.
The mystery and suspense continue with Winter’s Rescue, the second book in the Winter Black Season Two series, a thrilling ride that will make you realize things aren’t always as they seem. Sometimes they’re much worse.

I am so happy that I discovered what I consider "Winter Black Part II." I couldn't take the "Justin" story line anymore. Winter in her new P.I. job, with her wonderful husband Noah in his FBI role, are the best couple with lots of possible stories ahead. This is an excellent, spellbinding addition.
Private Detective Winter Black-Dalton and her FBI agent husband, Noah Dalton are getting situated in their new home. Winter is opening up a Private Investigator business in Austin, Texas and Noah was able to transfer to the local FBI office in Austin. Noah is currently on vacation and helping Winter unbox and set up their home. Noah is called back to the office to help with a possible trafficking case. He hates to leave Winter but he has a job to do. Winter decides to look into the case of a divorced woman who is worried about her three children staying around her ex-husband. Her youngest daughter has drawn a picture that appears to be of naked women and guns. Winter no longer has a badge or the resources of the FBI to use when working a case. At first it appears everything is alright and it is just a worried mom; however, Winter realizes something is wrong when local call girls go missing. She enlist the help of Detective Darnell Davenport. Winter and Detective Darnell will have to be careful when looking into her case. Will Winter and Detective Darnell find the truth? What is going on? Who is doing what? Noah and his partner, Eve, are searching for the missing young women. It appears there is a human trafficking ring in the area. Will they be able to find the young women in time? Winter and Noah’s cases appear to be connected. How are they connected? Winter visits with Timothy Stewart at Timothy’s request. It is a very interesting visit. Will Timothy ever be able to overcome what Justin Black put him through? Winter’s Rescue has it all-suspense, action, drama, sadness and even happiness. Looking forward to Winter’s next book.
It's been a while since I've read this series, but I'm happy that I've got several books to read together. It's a fantastic story and series that will hook you from beginning to end. It's a definite must read. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
I have loved this series since the first book I read. I'm thrilled that there's going to be more stories. However, the only issue I have is the way the books are listed on Amazon. When a series has more books than 20, you have to select the icon to see all of the series. Unfortunately, those books numbered 21+ disappear when the page changes. IE., you're ready to buy/borrow book #21, and select that option. After you're done buying/borrowing it and go back to the series page, you have to start all over to request the books #21 and over, and this has to be repeated every single time. I believe that it would be a lot easier for the readers if the authors &/or Amazon would create an icon that could link to the books over #21, like separate pages for the same series, but have them linked together. Example: books #1-20 listed on the main series page, then books #21-30 on a secondary page, etc. This would be beneficial for the longer series, series that have more than one season (like this one!), one series connected with another different series (by the same author), series that have the individual books on one page and the boxset(s) for that same series on a second page (& it would be amazing if they would be considered "Read" if a reader reads the individual books or the boxsets!), etc... I don't know if this could be done, but it would be brilliant if it could!
Other than this issue, which is NOT linked only to this series, but to all books on Amazon, I absolutely love this series. Can't wait to get started reading the next book!
WINTER'S RESCUE is the second installment in Season 2 of the Winter Black Mystery Series, making this the 20th installment in the entire Winter Black FBI Mystery Series by Mary Stone.
The development of the main characters and depth of depravity in the criminal(s) is just as good/chilling as ever and will keep you in the edge of your seat to the end. While not as intense or chilling as the first season, this is still a look-over-your-shoulder story in Winter's and Dalton's new life. This is definitely a hit, and you should not miss this new direction this couple's new life is taking!
Burning out after 13 years as an FBI Special Agent, Wunter resigned from the FBI. Now, she and Dalton are married and starting their new life together in Austin Texas. Dalton transferred to the local FBI office, while Winter opened her own Private Investigation business. It should be quieter, less stressful and definitely less serial killers, right?
When Dalton is pulled off his vacation to help with a human trafficking case, Winter gets her second PI case. A divorcee is afraid her children are being abused at her ex's home. She needs proof of what is going on in so she can get her children away from her ex-husband. When the ex shows up late at night threatening Winter if she doesn't back-off the case, she only gets more determined to take the case all the way.
My introduction to Mary Stone books were the Winter Black series and I haven't missed one yet. I love everything with Mary's name on it and this 20th installment in this series is just as good as the others. I'm sure you will be guessing the WHO/WHY all the way to the end.
I did receive an Advance Readers Copy from the authors. The above is my honest review and I highly recommend this new installment!
Winter has started another source of crime fighting. Noah and Winter have relocated to calmer waters in Austin TX, closer to his family and away from all the memories and pain of Winter's earlier years. Away from her brother who was abducted, traumatized by years of living with a serial killer. Winter, with the help and blessing of her husband, Noah, opened her own Private Investigation business after the hassle of politics and policies of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Violent Crime Unit. Not so much her superior officers as the legal handcuffs of the system. With her own business, she can still have access to police type procedures without having to struggle against the red tape. Her first case pits a woman trying to save her children from the influence e of her extremely successful, rich businessman. Twists and turns in the dramatics Mary Stone book has you guessing until the end. Noah, who has stayed stayed the FBI in Texas also receives a new partner, Eve, and their first case somehow ties The two cases together. Winter and Noah are physically separated with him being sent out into other parts of TX on assignments. Winter is basically running her first case with assistance from a detective from Austin PD. The next book should become closer for the couple to fight, damage and violence in which people inflict on others.
This is an ARC from Mary Stone and another great who done it. Winter and Noah are trying to settle in Austin, Texas. Noah receives a call from the FBI with a new case involving a possible human trafficking ring in the area. After he leaves, Winter gets a call from a desperate mother who is afraid her powerful ex husband is involved in something affecting the children. So while Winter is investigating her case, Noah is chasing down leads with his new partner, As things progress, it seems that somehow both cases may be related. Finally Noah gets a clue to where some of the women are being kept and he and his new partner race to try to save them. Meanwhile, Winter realizes that woman are disappearing after visiting the ex. Can the two cases be related and will they be able to get to the bottom of both cases before more women disappear or worse?
Winter's Rescue is the 2nd novel in the 2nd part of the Winter Black series. It brings with it a lot of the same characters we have grown to love. Winter takes her 1st case as a private investigator while her new husband, Noah, goes off on a case with his new FBI team. Winter takes on a case of a mother "who's husband is cruel and the mother suspects may have abused her youngest daughter". Noah goes off to search for a missing woman and finds that more than one may be missing and something sinister is afoot. As both cases advance, the couple discover that their cases just might be related. A fun case with awesome characters and a great mystery to solve. Mary never fails to provide suspense while making you fall in love with her characters. An enjoyable novel! 5 out of 5 stars!
Another winner. I enjoyed this thriller so much. Winter is my favorite. Mary really puts her through the wriggler. This time, while alone, winter works on the case, that is mentally exhausting and torturing her. The family falling apart, human trafficking, no moral codes are kept and children suffer. Plot is amazing and twisting through the unexpected end. I read through the night to finish the book and I suffered with and felt so proud of Winter. Very real story and characters. Mary I need more scary nights please. I almost forgot, I love how Mary can be funny in the most stressful situations. Like ……..turtle on Xanax. You find the sentence and enjoy. Hundred stars for fast paced unique story.
This is the second book in this series but our second series with Winter Black and her now Husband Noah Dalton. Winter is now retired from the FBI and starting her new PI business. When a frantic mother contacts her to investigate her Ex, Winter almost says no because she doesn’t want to do a cheating spouse type of case but when she listens to her story she had to take the case. Could this father be abusing his little daughter? Noah is still with the FBI and gets called away on a case. Hating to leave Winter he leaves to investigate a trafficking case. This is a book that is so full of action and strong storylines is an absolute treat!! Winter and Noah are incredible characters and you root for them the whole time.
When two paths converge. Winter is a PI, not a in the FBI, but somehow her first two cases have involved danger and pulled in the police/FBI. This story focuses on on the new city and new characters even though Autumn was briefly mentioned. It was great seeing the grandparents and Noah’s new work partner in action. The case(s) were sad and disturbing as human trafficking should be. The season two books are focusing on moving forward, but still giving credit and time to the trauma and experiences from season one. Well developed and vivid story and series. I jumped back into the story and immediately felt like I knew everything from all the books and this world. Great detail and pacing, can’t wait for the next one!
What a sick society these people have created. Molestation and trafficking are their main goals in life. Somewhere along the line they seem to have lost a moral compass, if they ever had one. What goes on behind the walls of the uber rich is always up for speculation. The Winter Black series has always held your interest. Winter unravels even the toughest of cases. It's not just her "special" gift, she has an incredible mind for even the smallest clues. And the smallest clues lead her to the bad guy or girl in this case. Great tangle of clues and lives up to Winter's reputation. Great read!
When Winter and Noah were assigned together at the FBI, readers somehow knew the pair would be forever linked. As their partnership grew, so did their love. When Winter's brother returned to destroy her, Noah was overcome with grief and anger. The culmination of Justin's story spawned a new life for Noah and Winter. In the second set of Winter Black novels their life is in Texas. No longer partners, Noah is with the FBI and Winter has Black Investigations. But what might happen if Noah us called away on a case an Winter is left to unravel a case of divoece, murder and trafficking?
Winter is trying to settle into her new PI business. Her current client had a messy divorce and is worried about a drawing her youngest showed her. Winter needs to find out if the drawing shows nefarious deeds at dad's house or not. Noah gets called back to work. Missing young ladies. Trafficking is possibly involved. Will their cases collide? Will Winter find something on the ex to help her case? A great book, hard to put down. Both Winter and Noah are favorites of mine. Another gripping tale from author Mary Stone.
Winter has left the FBI now she is a PI and her second case is a shocker
Winter and Noah have started a new life. He stayed in the FBI AND SHE RETIRED AND IS WORKING AS A PRIVATE INVESTIGATER. She has her second case now a mother has ask her to check her kids are ok. But the Father isn’t the nice guy he puts on As a front. He has a very crooked side and he has hookers st his house where the kids live. The same hookers that keep coming up missing. Winter just has to find out what he is doing with them before more start missing.
The first Mary Stone books I read was the Winter Black series. So wonderful to have her back making a fresh start with husband Noah Dalton. As usual Winter’s Rescue is filled with thrills and chills. Unbeknownst to Winter and Noah they are working the same case, he as FBI and she as a PI. Who will the creepy bad folks turn out to be? What a surprise when all is revealed. Awesome read, highly recommend!!
Winter takes on a case with a woman trying to protect her children from their father who is very rich and powerful. He even threatens Winter to stay away from him and his children or else. He even found out where she lives! Noah, her husband is off working a case for the FBI. Little did they know that they are both working a case that becomes connected. But the big shocker is who is responsible! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Winter's Rescue( Winter Black FBI Mystery Series Book 20)
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! This book was amazing, I couldn't put it down. It showed a very seady side of the world, it showed what could happen with a sex trafficking ring and how these nasty people get there victims. It's just sad that this tore a family apart, hopefully the youngest child gets some of her childhood back. I can't wait for the next book.
I love the author Mary Stone. Her series about Winter Black is fabulous. I have read this whole series and I love how Winter shows what a great detective she is even though she has this past with her brother going missing and her parents dying while at a sleepover but comes homes to find the killer. Then she gets this special power that she hates. The author just puts you right in the middle of her books like this stuff is happening to you.

I don't know how Mary Stone does it. Each book in this series is more riveting than the one before it! The tension builds, the storyline has more twists, and the ending is never what you expect. How she comes up with such unique storylines is mind boggling! I recommend this book and all Mary Stone's work to any reader who enjoys intricate storylines, interesting characters with as many flaws as strengths!
Very good mystery. Trying to figure out who was kidnapping the women was hard and I didn't figure it out. The reason the individual took to kidnapping was she had been used at a young age to satisfy an individual. Noah was involved due to his job with FBI and Winter was hired to investigate an ex husband in order to find a reason that the mother would not loose her rights. Good reading.
I started my journey within the imagination of Mary Stone with "Winter's Mourn." I have been amazed, enthralled, intrigued, and at times shocked. One of the best aspects of the Winter Black series is her maturation. She still carries the compassion for victims and passion for justice she had as an FBI agent, into her new life as a Austin, Texas P.I. Thank for bringing Winter to life, Mary. I am looking forward to NEXT!
This is the second novel in the second part of the series and it is getting better and better. I loved the fact that there was one twist that I didnt see coming. Mary Stone (and her co-authors) books are like a cuddly duvet which I can just snuggle up to for the afternoon and they just work.
I was given an advance copy by the author but the review is entirely my own.
Winter & Noah & Winter’s grandparents are getting settled in Texas. Noah is still FBI but Winter has opened her own PI business & her second case is taking her to some familiar territory. Unbeknownst to Winter & Noah, the case that Noah has been assigned to may he part of Winter’s case. Keep turning pages to find out.
A wonderful twisting story involving agent Noah and PI Winter. Their paths may be different now that they are settling in to their new lives in Austin, Texas but different paths sometimes get tangled up together. Enjoy getting wrapped back up with Winter and Noah! Glad to have them back in my reading life.
A difficult book to read, given its core subject matter
Winter’s second case starts out with a very perturbed non-custodial mother seeking Winter’s help in the ongoing child custody battles with her filthy rich, and abusive, ex-husband.
Noah is called out to a sketchy situation that may involve human smuggling, but he and his partner, Eve, end up bagging much bigger prey.
I liked the book, and I understand that some things had to be done to setup future books. However, it did make it feel a little disconnected at times. Didn’t flow as smooth as her previous books, but is still a good read and I’m looking forward to the next one.
I have read alllll of these books, I’ve gone away and come back and just love the story of winter black. Mary Stone does an amazing job with these series. I’ve followed at least 4 of them and they are all worth the read. All of them keep me up way too late unable at times to put it down! Thank you Mary!
I love the Winter Black series. It’s what hooked me on Mary Stones writing, but Winter’s switch from being a FBI agent to a private eye is a bit disappointing to me. Not sure I will read more of this particular series, but there’s plenty more from this author. A love Winter’s friend Autumn’s series as well.
