Life is unpredictable. That sentiment should be tattooed on my forehead or better yet on my lover’s ass. I’d see it more often.
I’m Alex Layton and I’m a soul familiar. Most people know that witches and wizards use familiars to enhance their powers. Soul familiars become not only partners with their chosen magic practitioner but mates for life, and we bond with our partners—heart, body, mind, and soul. I’ve found my soul mate, a sweet, gorgeous, recently deflowered virgin, fledging wizard by the name of Tyler Montgomery. To keep him, I face a challenge, or more precisely we face a challenge. Magical combat designed to test our bond and its strength. If we pass we live happily ever after. If we lose… let’s just say I refuse to lose.
Everything’s going to be fine. I just know it will. Right? All we have to deal with is the powerful and practiced duo consisting of a fellow soul familiar and his mate who are gunning for us and one accident of nature soul familiar whose erratic powers are making our spells produce daffodils instead of dragons. Like I said… life is unpredictable.
As a kid, from the time I learned to read, I've treasured books. Fiction mostly, because I'm the type of person who likes to be taken on journeys of imagination. I guess it was only natural I'd try to orchestrate some of those journeys myself, and share them with others.
Writing can be fun, frustrating, and sometimes even frightening, but it sings a siren song that entices. And whether you end up in the arms of a gorgeous muse, or wreaked on the rocks of broken thought, when you feel the urge to write, you do it.
I do my writing in a turn-of-the-century house located in the midst of Indiana farm country. In addition to dogs, cats and lovebirds, my family keeps me company. When not writing, I read, am an enthusiastic grower of iris, and a fanatic fan of Japanese manga and anime.
In the second chapter of the Soul Familiar series, Alex and Tyler are learning to live together as soul mates.
Alex is a Soul Familiar, a magical being who enhances the powers of his soul mate wizard. Tyler is the chosen wizard, but he is rather young, both in age than in power. Unlike all the other wizards, who learn since young age how to master their power, Tyler is arrived at the good age of 21 years old without knowing that he has special power. The reason why he "called" Alex, is that his mother cast on him a spell, and now everytime someone try to arm Tyler, a little cerbetta (a dog with three heads) appears. The problem is that the cerbetta translates also intense emotions like physical arm, and so Tyler was an unwilling virgin, since no one could be near him.
Alex overcame the problem of the cerbetta, and now Tyler is no more a virgin, but being his soul mates, Tyler must pass a test, a magical tournament with another pair of soul mates. To complicate the situation, Bobby, a soul familiar who can't control his powers, accidentally bonds himself to Tyler, creating even more chaos for both of them.
This is not a "serious" tale, it's more a funny romp. Alex and Tyler play with power as well as with sex, their life is like a perennial playground. Even the imminent test is not a serious thing, more like a match between neighbor team: a bit competition is good, but don't take the thing too seriously...
A light reading, fast and good, less than 90 pages, and a continuing series. I will look forward for the next chapter.
3.5 This is what I would call a little filler between stories. What I thought was interesting was the magical m/m/m/m menage experience. That's something you don't read every day. Off to read the final story.
