Rate this book
At just eight years old, Norman 'Face" Smith Jr. knew exactly what he wanted to be once he grew up; a man of power, wealth and respect. Being raised by his beautiful, overprotective mother Pamela, Face had set his eyes on all the finer things in life; Beautiful women, expensive cars and enough money to buy him the world on a platinum platter. By the age of 18, Face and his childhood best friend Reese were two precocious young street thugs in search of a better life, doing whatever it took to survive the mean streets of Philly until one day their luck changed.
Black Scarface is a powerful, realistic tale of money, power, respect, loyalty, love and a young mans journey to become a living legend, and one of the most notorious drug kingpins in U.S history.

First black American Gangster I've liked in a long time. witnessing a murder and million drug deals before his nuts even dropped, Face is the epitome of Gangster and everything that the title entails... this particular title gets my vote of approval because the descriptive, vivid, and straight raw depiction of the streets that had me captivated...A graphic detail of the underworld that hasn't been told since K'wans 'Road Dawgs' in my opinion...

The ending left me speechless!! I couldn't stop reading it. Its ironic how the person responsible for so much of Face's childhood trauma was the same person that awakened the monster inside of him & ended his life. This is a page turner!! I'm ready for part 2!!

I read this book & the three others in the series provided from various libraries back a few years ago just to pass the time & found them to be quite vividly riveting!
Lots of stuff occurred in this particular book that covered a litany of decades throughout the 369 pages of the first book.
The only problems that I had was when Pamela's friend Veronica was brought in to devirginize lil 12 yr. old Norman. As he got older, He kept up that relationship with his mother's friend Veronica there afterwards even though he had a girlfriend Tasha. Face also carried on a sexual relationship with a chick named Gloria who would later be revealed to had given birth to Scarface's first child: a son conceived from their many romps.
I don't like that Veronica smiled all in Tasha's face knowing all along what she had been to Tasha's man Scarface over the years.
Then again, this is where the reader knew more than ever before that this series had been crafted by males because only males who may not fully understand women would have this going on foreseeing no problems with it.
Despite this problematic issues, It didn't stop me from purchasing the series for my own personal library.

The book took some getting used to in this style. After I got into the story and following the characters the book was a page turner. The book is written with a rawness and real to make you want to keep turning the pages. I want to make a detailed review but do not want to give anything away. If you are looking at this book and not sure just get it and read it you will not be disappointed. Each character draws you in. You wont just be reading for the book on the character Face but you will want to know more about Veronica, Pamela, Doc, and everyone else. This is a series that I am also encouraging my husband to pick up and read I know when he starts he will be drawn in as well.
