Michele has been writing romance, action-adventure and fantasy stories for over twenty years. Her first published novel was DARK RAPTURE.
France, musketeers, vampires and faeries populate her stories. And if she followed the adage 'write what you know', all her stories would have snow in them. Fortunately, she steps beyond her comfort zone and writes about countries she has never visited and of creatures she has never seen.
Michele also writes as Michele Renae, and you can find her erotica, chick lit, and Harlequin Romance titles at your favorite online retailer.
Supernatural smut in search of a story. If this is your thing, then you're sure to enjoy this collection. It's blazing bedtime stories with vampires, werewolves and other creatures. As with all anthologies, some stories are more entertaining than other. Here's a brief description of each story: Racing the Moon by Michele Hauf - A male werewolf who needs sex to stop from changing is stranded by a thunderstorm at the garage of a female familiar who will release a demon from sexual fullfillment. What to do? Mate of the Wolf by Karen Whiddon - A female werewolf mistakes a male vampire for her blind date Captured by Lori Devoti - a male forandre(shapeshifter)has been thrown into a cell with a female forandre and expected to mate with her Dreamcatcher by Anna Leonard - A woman is being consumed by a succubus/incubus as the male keeper of the succubus/incubus tries to save her. I didn't actually understand this one much and didn't know quite what happened at the end. Mahina's Storm by Vivi Anna - Male and female werewolves who are both police officers have sex in a park and on the hood of a car. Broken Souls by Bonnie Vanak - Complicated story with an irritating, stubborn heroine about weres, known in this story as draicon

This book was an interesting mix of stories, some much better than others. Overall, I think the shorter format took away from at least a couple of the tales, which would have been better served by more solid intro and giving the authors room for solid character development. If you're looking for quick, sexy stories with a paranormal flare, these aren't bad, but they left me feeling sort of blank... not a lot of sense to a few of them, incidents happening without explanation, and real resolution.
Even though I’ve read all of these novellas as ebooks – I’ve made it my mission to buy every Nocturne Bites released thus far – I was delighted to read them again as the first ever Silhouette Nocturne Bites six-pack anthology. The ebook wave is something I’ve embraced with enthusiasm. I mean, what’s not to like? But I still think there’s something homey about holding a print book.
This collection of authors, I understand, are all published and well-known in the Silhouette Nocturne (full-length) books.
RACING THE MOON – Michele Hauf Sunday, a tomboy motor mechanic and feline familiar, chances upon Dean Maverick and his broken-down truck just before a storm. The sexual attraction is immediate and rampant, on her part and his.
Dean, a werewolf, is keen to get home before the midnight and the full moon. But he’s also chuffed that fate has landed him with such a hot piece – at exactly the right time. He needs sex to keep the wolf at bay. Sunday quite likes sex. Usually, so do her partners. It’s the thing that happens after that makes them run. Being a familiar, she forms a bridge for demons to enter the mortal realm. Ah, when she climaxes. Sometimes, the demons are just confused and want to go home. More often, they are malevolent and go on a killing spree.
So, while she is sorely tempted to take what Dean is offering, she can’t control what happens after – not having had enough sex to practice her skills.
I’ll try to not to spoil too much.
I adored Dean – I love most of Hauf’s characters – he’s fun, sexy, caring and solid. Sunday was cool – hot and self-assured.
I first read Hauf’s work when I bought Seraphim (LUNA), years ago. Nothing I have read of Hauf’s since has done anything to dull my girl-crush.
It’s a great read; fluid, consistent, seamless, real and fun
MATE OF THE WOLF – Karen Whiddon. I haven’t read many full Nocturnes – something I intend to remedy – thus, I don’t know much about Whiddon’s Pack books.
Allison Berg, a werewolf, approached the hottest man she has ever seen, hoping to ‘dog’, that he is her blind date. She slips on a beer glass and wakes later in hospital.
Kane Webster, Englishman and vampire, wants the woman who has fallen at his feet more than he has wanted anyone for centuries.
Their mutual attraction is going well, until she works out he’s a vamp.
When Kane is pursued by a long-time bounty-hunter, will she turn him in or save him?
I liked this book. Liked it, sure. It was a fun story, about a party girl and a dependable, sexy vamp. I think I need to read the rest of them.
CAPTURED – Lori Devoti This one was deep and emotional. I enjoyed it much more on the second read-through.
Gray Barsk, hellhound (forandre & shifter), wakes to find himself in a cell with a very irate female hound.
Leve will not lose another child to the market. So when the new male arrives – his job to impregnate her – she will kill him first.
But she underestimates this hound.
The Svartalfar (dark elves) who captured him, fill the cell with synthetic pheromones, in order to throw the pair together and precipitate the act that will provide the dark elves with the hound baby to sell.
Impressed by and attracted to each other, they form a plan to escape and take the other prisoners with them.
This one started with a very dark topic – the theft of babies – and initially I found it tough to jump from that to the consensual sex that follows soon after.
I did like the characters, though. Cool names…
A great premise that would have been better devoted to a longer novel, but it was still a good read. IMHO! I will look for more Devoti.
DREAM CATCHER – Anna Leonard (Laura Anne Gilman)
Speaking of deep, this one escaped me completely first time around.
I suspect I read too quickly.
Emma has convinced herself she has CFS. In truth, something is killing her from the inside.
A virtual invalid, her family hires her a nurse. Matthew. A very sexy, compassionate male nurse.
He seems to be healing her, but then also seems to be hurting her. She’s tired of people expecting things from her she can’t always give - will she find a way to save both herself and Matthew?
Will Emma give in, or will she fight? If she does fight, is she fighting him, or something else?
Anchored in Native American legend, this story had an ephemeral quality to it. I did enjoy it, but it lacks the pace of the other novellas. The sex is also toned down.
I did enjoy the twist in the conclusion, although it did make, for me, Matthew seem less manly.
It was well written, though.
MAHINA’S STORM – Vivi Anna
Lycan Mahina Garner is a captain of the Necropolis Police Department. Ren Calder is the detective she has worked with a number of times, and shared one drunken, but scorching kiss with.
Ren, also lycan, has wanted Mahina for years, but she’s never given him any indication that she hungers for anything but catching the bad guys.
This story is one of a number set in Anna’s world of Necropolis.
I liked the characterisation, but felt that the move from rock-hard police captain to smokin’ hot love machine was a bit of a jump. And it was hot.
I enjoyed Ren, though he had the capacity to be a bit love-lorn. I wondered why he held back from telling Mahina how he felt. Because she hadn’t given him any signals? I would like to think that the men I read about have enough gumption to overcome that.
I would read more Vivi Anna, because I did enjoy the story, it was well-written and engrossing.
BROKEN SOULS – Bonnie Vanak
This final story, again is one of many, I think. Vanak has created The Draicon, a race of werewolves. Their enemies are the Morphs, former Draicon who have gone bad.
Vanak says she once wondered about what happens to those Draicon whose lifemates have been murdered by the Morphs. So she wrote the story of Katia and Baylor, both of whom have suffered the loss of their destined lifemates . They are Broken Souls.
Baylor would like them to commit to each other, but Katia is unwilling until she knows the fate of her father, who disappeared after a Morph attack on their family home.
If her father is alive, she should return to his pack, not commit to another.
So, she weaves a blood/candle spell in order to find her father. A spell she is forbidden to cast. When her father arrives for her, Baylor is convinced he has turned Morph. Katia thinks that Baylor is just saying that so that she won’t go home to her father’s pack.
I felt like I jumped in the middle of this one – there were a lot of people living in the house where Katia and Baylor were, and they were all paired, or pairing off. There was history, and I missed it!
Katia was, for me, slightly annoying. If I was presented with a red-hot male – whom I loved by the way - saying, mate me now, I love you, I need you, I would not be answering with “Where’s my daddy?”. Na-uh. Give me smokin’ male over family dinners around the table any old day!
When Baylor is injured fighting her father – not that Katia believes it was daddy – Katia knows she needs to make a decision about her life.
While these were all great, short reads, Hauf was definitely my favourite, but I am pleased to have discovered more good authors. I intend to read more of these ladies’ full-length work.

This collection definitely was very smut focused which is what I'm looking for. There were a variety of stories and themes, one very interestingly dealing with chronic fatigue syndrome. Ultimately though, this was less satisfying than other Nocturne Bites despite the really sexy cover. First one story (captured) repeatedly mentions r*pe and torture of the main character so it's just hard to really enjoy this story. Dreamcatcher had a very convuoulted ending. The final story could have been a novel, it felt rushed.
Omg I read all of the short stories there where some of the short stories that didn’t quiet catch my eye but omg there was some really good erotic books I loved it, it was hot and spicy
I read the one about the familiar and the werewolf and the other one about the werewolf police, they have a lot of werewolves in it there are “some” other supernatural but it’s mostly werewolves.
Racing the Moon – Michele Hauf Sunday, familiar, living outside of town – mechanics shop… she ‘rescues’ werewolf Dean Maverick, finding him on the road with his car broken down… they return to her shop… it rains (he doesn’t like the rain)… they are attracted to one another, they don’t want to get involve with one another (her because of the demon that will come forth / he because is afraid his were side will hurt Sunday)… but they cannot resist… she warns him about the demon that will release when she orgasms – tries to have sex giving only him pleasure, but he doesn’t allow it… a demon comes forth, and he turns were to fight it… and Sunday tames his were – he falls asleep with his head on her lap – and wakes up human…
Mate of the Wolf – Karen Whiddon Allison Berg – werewolf, approaching 30 and still hasn’t found her mate… mistakes vampire Kane Webster for her blind date… and she finds her mate, he finds his Svetla… and he turns her cancer ridden best friend into vamp to save her living…. Hmmmm
Captured by Lori Devoti Hell hounds… a short story, so the backstory isn’t clear… but she’s been imprisoned, first by a witch, and then by the Bad Elves, who run a hellhound baiting fighting ring – where she is forced to fight… and they have a ‘technique’ of forcing the impregnation… they drug/kidnap a male hell hound… dump him down a shute into a cage (the ramp is electrified after they dump him)… they pump in a phernome gas that pushes the hellhound into a mating frenzy, and the female to be submissive – so they will have sex… and they send in drugged infested meat that the male ravenously eats, and passes out… repeat until female is pregnant… sell the babies? Raise them to be fighters/gladiators? – unknown
Leve (who named herself) who prides herself on survival has been enslaved her whole life… when they send a male (Gray Barsk) down the chute, she refuses to have another baby taken from her – so she’s going to kill him before he awakens… but he is awake… they tussle, enemies… the gas is pumped in… he is a disciplined hellhound, and when he realizes she does not want sex, he steps away.. and bit by bit she comes to trust him – they pretend to have sex to prevent more gas, and to lull the guards… he pretends to eat the tainted meat… when the guards sneak in a bit later, they kill the 3 of them… they free the other women (10 or 20 of them) (not easy as they have been mistreated by the males)… he insists on saving the male he can feel – as they exit the complex, the 2 of them get trapped in a magic box… they have gentle, responsive sex (what else are they going to do? HMmm)… the prisoners they freed finally get them free…
Dreamcatcher by Anna Leonard Strange story – intro by author is in salute to courage of women with chronic fatigue syndrome… and the story pairs Emma Roberts with a home nurse Matthew – she is chronically tired (unlike herself), and misunderstood – he is there to make sure she rests but to also teach her how to maximize her energy… but it ends up he is incubus, and half of him is feeding on her energy, half of him is trying to protect her – giving her a dream catcher of the stories of his ancestors… I didn’t get it… and in the end, she volunteers to be with him, loving him, and feeling some measure of control because of the dream catcher… I got confused.
Mahina’s Storm by Vivi Anna Captain Mahna Garner – were extraordinaire does her police job (policing supernaturals)… Worked with, and respected Detective Ren Calder (also were)… and at warehouse take down, she is too focused on stopping the head honcho, and Ren pushes her out of the way of the silver bullet (which made a furrow across his shoulders)… for two years Ren has been growing a fascination for Mahna, and finally decides to act on it… and tracking her to the gym… to the park… to her house… he lets her know about his feelings… and won’t let her run away from her feelings for him.
Broken Souls by Bonnie Vanek Werewolves - Katia Howard… magic candle weilder, lost her fated mate, lost her family to the Draicons (evil monster werewolves) 4 years earlier she was found, traumatized in a shed, and Baylor (also who lost his fated mate) made her his assignment… and after a few weeks she finally spoke… and over time they became great friends… and fell in love…
But she is convinced her father is still alive… that her mother, and therefore she, can call the light in a Draicon and make them good again… that she has forgotten something very important… and before she will commit fully to Baylor, she uses the candle to call her father to her… it ends up dad had sent mom and sisters to Alaska to be safe – she had stayed with dad, to fight and to try anduse the spell – but he sent her away when it was obvious he would die… and he does come for her… Baylor is trying to protect her… they go to her old home, to look for her mother’s journal… confronted by evil dad – who fights Baylor… and when she can finally see her father is too far gone, and Baylor is losing, she kills her father… and even after joyful reunion with mom, she decides to stay with Baylor (who with difficulty was allowing her to choose) and her new pack.

Racing The Moon: OMG, if you want to know what happens when werewolfs and familars meet under some hot circumstances then you must read this book. The story will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. Dean is hot and Sunday is spicy! What more could you ask for, now throw a demon in the mix and you got one kickin story! The story does beg to ask… what would you do to satisfy an urge!!!
Be sure to check out her place (here) to see what she has coming up!!! And if you visit her place… you will see that you can go to eHarlequin to download a free book from her as well!!! So, please… chase the wolf there to see what else she has in store for us!
Captured: Let's just say that if I ever wanted a man in my corner to back me up, I would glad chose Gary to be that man!!! Hellhound straight from heaven!
And if I ever wanted to be a kick-ass chick... let me Leve!!! Her past life along won her a ticket of *bowing downing* to her for the rest of her life! She deserved to be happy and safe.
Put these two together and watch the fireworks go off.... really!
Being trapped in a cell, with no way out but to have those that put in there think one of you is dead and the other one is knocked up... well, let's just say that these two fight it out amongst themselves and come to grip with what the other is offering.
Again, this was a fantastic short story to be included among others... this book is like a cake... each layer I strip away, it just keeps getting better and better!!!
I have told you all before, I am not a fan of short stories, because I like to feel the whole story, but these three books so far have left me very hussies satisifed!!! VERY!!! But I will tell you this... I will be following up with with these authors and seeing what they have to come and what was in their past!!!
Broken Souls: Losing your soul mate... does that mean that you have lost the only person you can every truly connect with or is there more than one soul mate out there...
Well, these two characters each have lost their soul mate, only to find each other after. That in itself is enough to make me want to read this book. Love is given another chance... or is when family comes in the middle. Would you risk everything for the one you love or the ones that loved you a long time ago.
This story is not an explosive story, but it is a heartwreching, heart felt story. Let's just say that I wish I had Baylor in my life!! He is one strong man and devoted man.
I will give you no more... only because this is the last story in this collection and I really want you to go out and buy this book and read these wonderful stories!!!
I began this collection with high hopes of discovering more authors to follow. Alas, I didn't get that lucky. Only two of the stories pleased me and those were by authors I already follow. I didn't care for any of the others...one I disliked so much that I couldn't finish it. Maybe I just expected too much. I doubt if I'll be trying other "assorted author collections " in the future.
I love these anthologies to a point...but the stories are so rushed that the plots are a wee bit transparent. Not always the authors' best work but a great way to be introduced to a genre. Michele Hauf is great so once in awhile you can give her a pass.
Normally I think I'd give this a 2 star, but even 'good' girls need a little smut now and then, so I upped it a star, lol. I think I'll hang on to this for a little while... ;)
this book had everything i wanted. compelling character, amazing sexual tension. yum. given the limited number of pages each author has, these stories grabbed me by the hair and pulled me in. the only complaint i could have is that they weren't long enough!
Good read, multi-author anthology with a paranormal theme. I especially liked Lori Devoti's story but then I have enjoyed her other hellhound books [Unbound series:] so that is not a surprise.
This was a couple short stories. I only read Michele Hauf's story. I thought it was pretty good for being so short. A cat and a wolf...who would have known.
The first story wasn't too bad. I did start skimming then. Thereafter, I skimmed a lot...not a good sign. Lots of variety in creatures if you are a paranormal fan, though.
