"Sometimes I was / absolutely positive/ that life itself wasn't somewhere else, but right there, / at that table."

🥧

With and against Ezra Pound, Karen Van Dyck turns prose passages into poems in this slim and elegant bilingual volume. The following poem stands out:

WORLD LITERATURE

You don't need to leave your room
Remain seated at your table and listen
Do not even listen, simply wait
Be quiet, still and solitary
The world will freely offer itself to you
To be unmasked, it has no choice
It will roll in ecstasy at your feet

(Franz Kafka, Zürau Aphorisms, tr. Michael Hofmann)
