Thane

I’ve been told I’m beautiful to look at, but I’m a monster all the same. Barely contained. Terrifying now that the thirst is upon me.

I’m a beast king, and that comes with its pros and cons.

Big con: I have to take a bride. It’s built into my DNA. We all reach a point where the drive kicks in.

I thought I still had time. I was wrong. I need to find her. The one.

A vampiress whose blood will quench me. The hunt is on. If I don’t find her soon, I’ll be put down like a rabid dog, leaving my throne to my greatest enemy: my rival by blood. And that can’t happen.

Bellicent

What happens in the dark stays in the dark…or so I thought.

I’m a half-blood. More human than vampire. A weakling. A circus trick only good for being used and abused.

When the vampire king shows interest in me, I tell him where to get off…then I spend the night with him. Don’t judge me! Who wouldn’t leap at the opportunity? He’s the most eligible bachelor on the planet and is known to be picky about who he spends time with.

The king also happens to be my family’s greatest rival. It’s a feud that spans centuries. Think of the Capulets and Montagues, only so much worse.

Last night was a moment of weakness; a night I don’t regret! Thane is more of a beast than I ever imagined.

My brother will pop a vein if he ever finds out what I did. He thinks he can run every aspect of my life, but he’s wrong. I will follow the two rules that have been drummed into me since childhood...and those two rules only! To keep the peace, I’d prefer it if Zale never found out about last night. He’d make my life a living hell.

Then, the king shows up on my doorstep again. Everything I’ve ever known to be true starts to unravel. It all gets turned on its head. I’m not sure who my real enemies are anymore...

Thirst is the first book in a series about monsters of all kinds. If you like enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, sassy heroines, and swoon-worthy beast kings who are almost untamable, then this is the series for you.

Vampire king needs fated mate!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙❤️💚🖤
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😊😄😘🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Thane Nocturnus - he is the vampire king in a world where supernatural beings have to keep their secrets from humans. Vampires only feed from other vampires and it is against the law to feed from humans. When the thirst comes upon Thane, it is a sign that he needs to find his fated mate or he would go crazy and either die soon and/or be a danger to others. No vampire will be able to quench his thirst other than his fated mate, so he had no choice but to find her.

The heroine: Bellicent Deluca - she is only half vampire, the product of an illegal mating between her vampire mother and a human man. She has known her entire life that she was different and an object of shame to her family and especially her brother who is next in line to be king. Her family used to hold the throne, but now their rivals hold it, and her brother watches over her to make sure she doesn’t do anything to shame the family more. The council had determined at her birth that to keep the vampire race pure, she was not allowed to get married or have children. So Bellicent runs a cat rescue and runs a clothing business rather than living off the wealth of her family.

The Story: When Thane and Bellicent meet at an event, he soon realizes that her blood fills him much more than any other, though he is not happy to learn that she is from his rival's family. When he confirms she is his fated mate, he is not surprised that her brother is against the match. Bell finds out that her family has been lying to her about many things and Thane helps her track down the lies and find out what they have been hiding.

This was actually a very good story that really held my interest. It had an original plot and great characters. Bellicent’s family was very hard on her and I liked that Thane was so supportive of her throughout the story. At first, she thought Thane just wanted her for her blood. But the chemistry between them couldn’t be denied. I liked the mystery of the secrets Bell’s family was keeping.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Tristan James and Meg Price. Tristan James has a very nice, deep voice. Though I don’t really like his female voice. That is the problem with dual narration where the male has to do female voices and vice versa. Meg price has a nice voice and is able to show emotion through her voice.

Had potential. The beginning was good and intriguing but it all went downhill from there.

I hated how everyone kept everything from the heroine and just tried to protect her. It was condescending and frankly I’m over the tired trope of everyone treating the heroine like a child that needs to be coddled and kept in the dark. Also, suppressing her powers and letting her feel inferior and cast aside for 28 years .. that’s not “love” regardless if they tell themselves they did it for her. Nah, you did it for yourself. I wish she would have gotten to tell them that and not just pretend that it was ok and everyone did everything out of the goodness of their heart.

The hero lost all the points he got in the beginning of the book. Self sacrificing sounds like a good quality in a boyfriend but only if it makes sense and it’s actually a last resort, otherwise it’s just wimpy and quite pathetic honestly.

Let’s just say that the conflict could have been better. Way bette. Actually, it would have been great if it was a totally different one.

just okay

The premise was great, but the writing was very juvenile, in my opinion. He’s supposed to be this powerful, dangerous vampire but his whole demeanor was in complete conflict with that. I’m all for the “I hate everyone but her” trope, but this just fell flat. I liked Bell overall, but she came across as very flaky and wish washy. And THE EXCLAMATION POINTS. The overuse of exclamation points made me want to throw the whole book away and never pick it up again. I don’t plan on reading the other books because if I see another poorly placed exclamation point, I may combust.

I have absolutely no idea how this book got such a high rating.

PROS
- the plots of finding a mate and forbidden love usually make me curious of how the the couples come together and how their friends and families react.

CONS
- I couldn’t stand the heroine. She wanted people to let her live her life and be independent but she had no problem taking money from her mom. She also seemed kind of flaky and weak at times. She was nothing like how Thane saw her. She was not sassy and unique. I hate it when books make it seem like the heroine is the only female to not bow at the hero’s feet. I’m sure there is more than one female that has dignity.
- the writing wasn’t horrible but it was not good. It was very elementary and the sex scenes were clinical.
- we needed to see and know more about the horrible treatment she went through growing up. I just thought Zale was looking out for her like a brother.
- didn’t Thane tell Zale he could be king if he helped out with Bellicent? Not sure how Thane stayed king.

NO!

This just wasn't for me, and the male narrator made me almost dnf it.
Meg Price did a great job on the narration, though, but couldn't save the story from itself.

Oh my…I wanted to love this book, hoping to find a new series to dive into, but I really don’t know…It felt like the summary (at least the one here on goodreads) did not line up with the actual story. The ending felt really rushed and like the author needed to hurry and throw in all these extra little bits to try and get you more interested in the next book. Unfortunately, this didn't work for me and I won't be continuing the series.

First off, while I myself can swear a blue streak at times, this had a lot even for me. If you search the word “fuck” on the Kindle version it comes up 249 times and there are roughly 280 pages of content.

Second, Bellicent’s family. They lied to her for her entire life and treated her like dirt giving her major esteem issues, then suddenly say “oh we actually love her so so SO much, but her father is a psycho and this was all to protect her”. Not buying it. Any of it. Zale was a dick with a mean girlfriend he refused to believe was actually mean to Bell, and her mother acted like a depressed woman who doted on her daughter until Bell confronted her with her lies. If they really wanted to protect her, she would have known about the suppression spell and how important it was for her to not be found. Bell is supposed to be 28-29 years old and acts very immature for that. She has desires to expand a clothing line and cat sanctuary and Zale did nothing but berate her and tell her how worthless she was. They even made her feel like the only reason she even had a home and any money at all was because her mother was alive and giving her a portion of her own allowance.

There’s a whole feud between Bell’s family and Thane’s because of the crown. Thane is king because his family “stole” it from Bell’s family, but no one told Bell that her family technically stole it first. When confronted with this, her mother loses it. Zale is overjoyed that Thane finds out his mate is Bell because Zale is sure that Bell will do what he says and reject Thane, Thane will die, and Zale will be king. Then after all the bullshit and shenanigans, Thane and Zale are friendly with each other, and Zale is at the least content with Thane being king.

I had a hard time grasping Thane’s character at times too. He is supposed to be this badass vampire king who also happens to be ridiculously cool and sexy. Yet half his sentences end with exclamation marks. Actually, a lot of sentences end with exclamation points, made it hard to tell what was actually important. He also (according to Bell) was the only one to ever ask what SHE wanted, then lo and behold, he pulls a 180 and decides they aren’t going to be together because it would put her life at risk. He starts making all the decisions for her and planning for his death instead. It felt a little like the author wanted him to be desirable, but not aloof or reserved.

Bellicent’s character was a bit interesting too. At times she was written as a strong character, then she’d flip into the damsel in distress. Sometimes mature, sometimes a child. Like at the end when she is mad at Courtney still so she uses her power to pull Courtney’s underwear down in front of everyone so she trips down the stairs. Courtney was a completely useless character to begin with and I don't know why the author included her at the end - this action detracted from Bellicent's character and was not funny.

This book was almost a DNF for me. I thought the basis for the story was cool, and I liked the FMC’s vintage style as well as her independent nature. However, the writing was not great. I couldn’t focus on anything but the choppy sentences hitting me like nails hammered into a board. Choppy sentences are great when creating tension, but not the ENTIRE time. The FMC read a lot like a teenager, and the MMC honestly made no sense at times. The plot and cohesiveness also wasn’t great; there were places that I had to stop and scratch my head. The “spice” was more of a salt n pepper rub if I’m being honest. I wasn’t feeling it. My normal is three stars, and I am likely overrating this a little, but I reserve one star for DNF’s. I would like to read this again if it is revised because it does have potential, it just doesn’t quite make it.

DNF 67%

The vampire king on a rampage could be taken down by a taser. Lame!! I liked that the girl did her own thing, redesigned vintage clothing. We didn't see how the brother mistreated her. The "betrayal" was all hearsay. I thought she would jump at the chance to have kids with the king after being told by her family that she can't. Instead she was like, I'll let you die so I have a chance at love. Even when her family told her she couldn't be with anyone. Then her big plan to find out the truth was to just ask her mom again to see what she could get out of her. She just came across as dumb.

Thirst is the first fantastic book in The Beast King Brides series.

I am loving this series; it is full of drama, it is sexy, it is fun and it is full of paranormal romantic goodness. They are Kings, alpha males in all shapes and sizes with Vampires, Shifters, Elves and more. It is sexy, sizzling, smoking Hot, it jumps right off the pages and leaves you needing more.

They are looking for their mates what they find are sassy, headstrong females but not everything goes to plan. These men are ruthless power players but underneath it all are men who love fast, they love with their whole heart.

Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, suspense, drama and love. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real.

There are plenty of witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud.

DNF 48%. The story and idea were great! I loved the characters and the world the author created but the writing seemed immature/left a lot to be desired. The rapport between characters felt fake and pushed (especially the MCs). I tried hard to read it all but i found myself rolling my eyes and skimming through most of it.

Ummm

I almost gave up on this book many times. I was able to finish it.

The pace of the story is not right. The characters are thrown from one scene to another with little emotional flow. This book was all surface and no depths. It was kind of like dating a player; a player says all the things they are supposed to, but there is no real meaning behind what is said, no connection, no heart. The story was packaged well, it ticked off my paranormal romance kink, the sex was fine, but it left me wanting for half the book and annoyed the other half.

I did not even dig the lead characters. The lead female seemed flat, not sassy, weak, and a bit dumb. The male lead was stumbling and not very king like, not very monster like, nor was he possessive of his mate. The stroy was even missing the details you need to world build, with facts only coming to light and thrown in haphazardly. I still do not understand if inly the kings go into a mating frenzy or why it happened to only kings. I did not even know that sorcerer were a thing in their world until the writer needed a bad guy for a not well thought out mystery they backed the lead characters into.

I have read many stories that led to the male friends becoming the new male lead in a sequel, and it was not done well in this book. As with the main characters, I never made a connection, and I am not interested in the evil half sister who tried to kill every one, being the next female lead; I would have preferred Fallon.

This book could have been so much better. I think the writer shows promise. I would not have written this review or bought the book to read if I thought the writer was hopeless. However, I do expect better. Instead of a great writer book, I got a rushed product that showed little effort forthcoming.

It was pretty good just nothing amazing. The things that bugged me the most was her brother that we thought was such an asshole completely changing his character and all of a sudden just wanted what was best for his sister and no longer was fighting for the throne. His character did a 180 and didn’t feel genuine in how fast that could if happened. The mom too her character was off and why she would tell her son about who his sister’s real father was but no her just didn’t sit well.

I also can’t stand it in books when the main characters try to sacrifice themselves for the other, you know it’s not going to happen. No one would just sit back and let their love die 🤦‍♀️ it’s a storyline that’s done a lot and I’m not a fan.

Other then that I enjoyed it, our female protagonist was raised in the vampire community even though she was led to believe she was 1/2 human & 1/2 vampire yet only took on the characteristics of humans. Turns out she was something more!

The king of vampires fell in love with her when he just thought she was this cat loving fashion designer with zero powers. He was going through a blood lust and would die if she didn’t mate him being she was his perfect match.

There was some drama mostly with her family & then her new found family. Her father and 1/2 sisters.

It took them long enough to realize they were in love with each other!

His fae friend seems to have found his perfect match in her 1 evil 1/2 sister who is a twin. She had been taking all her their father’s dark magic into herself and it was making her crazy. So he tied her up to bring her to his castle where he hopped to cute her.

The spice was fun in this book and overall it was enjoyable!

I wouldn't waste your time with this.

Coarse language, plot was lacking a lot. Most of the book was about them getting physical. If you like smut this is the book for you. I honestly can't believe I finished it. Bellicent which is an awful name is a girl born without magic. She lives with the vampires but may as well be a human. She has no vampire traits. She is half human. After meeting the king & hooking up with him she learns he is going insane unless he finds his mate. What kind of shifter book lets his father find his mate but then let's him cheat on her with everyone? There are very few because it destroys the whole concept of mate or the one. It's different than a marriage! Anyway I won't keep going off about that, though I'd like to. Bellificent never met her father because he was human & she can't reveal the supernaturals to humans. When she tracks him down she finds out she was lied to. When the cards are finally all on the table it turns out her entire family lied to her. She finds out her dad is a powerful supernatural who wants to use her. She can't bare the thought of not marrying Thane because she loves him & he will die without her. She hunts down her father. There is a small twist in the story. It is a very anticlimactic ending and that's the end. I'm definitely not reading anymore in this series!

This was a wonderful read a wonderful series of various creatures and heroines
This had been a wonderful read and although Thane was thought of highly and considered to be a beautiful thing to gaze upon and to encounter however, few lived to tell the tales of the happenings.
They are known to be voracious and when they find their mate that Vampiress is the only individual whose blood is able to feed his thirst and once he has her, he will never let her go.
Bellicent is a combination of human and vampire and had known that the vampires king was interested in her, this man is no easy choice and if he should decide to take her, she would know who she belonged to.
The king also happens to be the family’s greatest rival and this is the most riveting read and would enjoy this book thoroughly.
I do not want to spoil the plot so will say no more about the three of them, I assure you that you will enjoy every single moment of this book.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Weak

No where near what I was expecting. I actually thought about DNF but decided to finish even though this was not it. For starters what do you think of when you say to yourself “The beast King” about vampires?
Yessss You’d think of a bad ass boss right? 😂nah this was about kittens and abandonment issues. If you take away all the vampire features such drinking blood, fangs, and eye color changes then you’d have a regular book.
The ML gets his ass handed to him by another vampire. Wait what? Ya. This man is supposed to be the king of vampires 🙄
The FL…well she was basically “human” who is told her father is the embodiment of evil and to stay away and she runs off to catch a flight to visit the guy🙃. Well this waste of a trip to fantasy land ends here. The cover is cute though. 3 star because somebody will like this. But in my reality 1 star for false advertisement.

Thirst😍

Thirst is the first book in a new series by Charlene and it’s AMAZING❣️I loved the characters and the story as it was so different to other stories out there but held all the elements I love in a paranormal romance book😉

Thane is King of the vampires and soon realises that the Thirst has set in. In order to combat the Thirst, he needs to find a mate and claim her, but the person who it appears is destined to be his mate belongs to the rival family that vies for the Royal Crown😳

Bellicent is neither vampire, nor human, she is half of each but has nothing from either side. When a chance at being with the King arises, she jumps in feet first - after making him work for it first😂😂

I can’t wait to read more books in this series, I’m spellbound🤩 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️

The stupidest heroine I have ever read about is hands down Bellicent.

Basically human, does not even think baout the real consequences, like that she will die (or not coz of the happy ending.....) or that someone else will die because of her. This was plain stupidity.

Also a weird kind of lust-based 'story'. Could have been better without this amount of porn....or not because of already mentioned stupidity.

Also#2 what the hell are these names....Bellicent.......Accelerator ( no, I am not kidding here), Rogue, Solstice..... (for god's sake call him at least Sol.....), I am seriously affraid about upcomign names. Aaaaand the writer has a problem with someone called Gabriella/Gaby in theri life, since weirdly enough she is againa pretty negative character but if I can predict the future she will have a redemtion here as well not only in the other, totally unrelated series.

Holy Moly is this book great!! Bellicent is a half vampire half human outcast. She isn't allowed to live with humans but vampire society looks down on her. Even her own family keeps her on a tight leash. Thane is the sexy vampire king. He is part of a group called the Beast Kings which include the kings of all paranormal species. I loved Bellicent. She doesn't fall over backwards to impress the vampire king. She is her own women in spite of not fitting in. And she rescues cats!! Thane has reached the point in his life when he needs to find his life mate or go insane and be killed. Bellicent is a nice distraction but can Thane find his life mate while preoccupied by her? I couldn't put this book down. It's sexy, fun and dangerous. I can't wait for the next book in the series!!

Good book. It was a high 4 stars for most of the book, but the ending was rather disappointing for me. Lots of build up for at the end for a suddenly revealed bad guy, only for that bad guy to be a non issue and a third party pops up at the last minute for a quick fight scene. All of which was necessary to set up the next book, but didn’t do much justice to this story’s ending.

But, I really did enjoy the majority of this book. The way the two main characters met and hooked up for their “one night stand” felt much more natural than I was expecting after having read the synopsis. And their romance and affection felt very natural to me. I liked these two characters together. And the spice scenes were really good.

I’ll probably give the next book a shot.

AMAZING

thirst was an awesome read that I couldn't even put down!!!! I started reading it while getting my nails done. I'd just finished reading another & because there wasn't any wifi I couldn't download the next in the series. I'd downloaded this previously cause I love Charlene's books. Once I started I couldn't stop. The interaction between Thane & Bellicent was like shooting flames from the moment they met. Each & every time that the two of them meet sparks fly!!!! Thirst deserves a 10. It has kept me captivated from the beginning to the end. Well Done!!! Charlene Hartnady has really outdone herself this time. I can't wait till I start the next one in the series!!!!!

The Hottest Thirst…

First, I must preface this by saying that this author never disappoints! This book…muy caliente! Very hot! It’s the story of Bellicent & Thane. He’s descended from vampire royalty & is the current King. Bellicent is descended from royalty as well but their family lost the crown to the Nocturnis’ (Thane’s family), or so the story goes. She lives under her family’s thumb & has no real life of her own. Her life is lived by rules that’re given to her by her mother & brother. She can’t marry nor can she have children. She’s part human & vampire but she can’t stand blood. Both of their lives are changed forever after a black tie affair where they meet by chance…Highly recommend!

Such an amazing read! I absolutely loved this story! Bell is such an awesome heroine! I loved how she stood up to Thane even though he was the king! He was amazing and I loved how he was with Bell! These two were so perfect for each other. This was a unique story that I couldn’t put down! So much going on in this story and it really kept you on the edge of your seat! Very intriguing and so enjoyable! It was very interesting how things turned out with Zale. This was a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to see what happens with Solstice! I very highly recommend! I am voluntarily leaving an honest review for this complimentary copy of this book

Oh my goodness this was so good, what a fantastic start to a new series.

I absolutely loved the hero, he was 100% alpha, a little bit sweet and a whole lot of hotness. The heroine was totally fab, strong and independent and knew what she wanted.

Charlene Hartnady has this way of weaving a story where i just can't see how things will work out well and then BAM happily ever after! I LOVE IT!!! and the way it happens in this one is fantastic.

I especially loved the little bit with the mean girl in the epilogue.

Looking forward to the next in the series. I received an ARC and this is my honesty review.

It’s always a concern when one of your favourite writers begins something totally new but on this occasion it is a brilliant new series with new characters & an edge of darkness.
Thane is such a strong character but he’s struggling to contain the Thirst that has set in & means he has to find his mate or he’ll be killed. Bellicent on the other hand has her life just the way she wants it & is most unimpressed as Thane does not live the way she prefers or fits in any way with her future plans.
This really is an impressive start to the Beast Kings, it gripped me from the start & kept going right to the end with a teaser into the next book.

I have never in my life heard a more torturous male audio book reader. Defeats the whole purpose of dual narration. He was comical with women's voiced generally horrible at reading and destroyed any semblance of realness for the male hero when attempting to embody him. The parts with the woman reader were great. She did well with male voices too so I have no idea why the male narrator kept popping in to destroy this book. Utterly decimate it. Honestly can't even properly judge the plot. Sorry. May have been a perfectly acceptable 3 star read. I honestly feel like I've suffered an aggravated assault to my ears.

Thirst #1 12/10/2022

Bellicent de Luca is talked into going to a charity event but she stands out like a sore thumb because she not pure blood vampire. She’s half the other half is human as far as she knows. Well things are going to change because she’s about to encounter the king of vampire’s Thane Nocturnus. He just can’t keep his eyes off her there is just something that draws him to her. But he needs a mate because the thirst is upon him. So enjoy the read and see if these two make it work!!

This was like 3.6 for me. I LOVE Charlene's dragon shifter series. This book, however, didn't do it for me and I don't think I will read the others in the series. I just didn't love it and I really didn't like it as much as her other series. The characters are kind of shallow. She didn't really build them up super well. I would have loved if Thane was more brooding, the German shepherd energy here and there didn't make me feel like his personality was consistent throughout. Idk. I'm not knocking Charlene, I love some of her other work. This one was just not my favorite.
