On The Banks of Connolly Canal

Rate this book
Connolly Canal meandered along the edge of the paddy fields of Korattur. On a stormy night, Lona, a fugitive, wandered into Ouseppettan’s house. On that fateful night, Ouseppettan suffered a stroke and became paralysed. David, his son found himself totally ill equipped to take the reins of the household and Lona walked into that void. In course of time, true colours of Lona were revealed.
Lona’s greed for wealth prevented him from handing over the parcel of land bequeathed to the church by his father. In an attempt to get even with the church, he forced his son Cherian, to desert his co-actors from the stage play on the sodality day in the church.
Cherian became a pariah among his friends. The once iconic youth in the village became a total recluse. He took to drugs and gambling, which ended up in a prolonged incarceration. Attempts were made by his brother-in-law to rehabilitate him, all of which ended up in a much worse fiasco. Cherry took into his heart to wreck vengeance on his brother-in-law for not continuing to help him.
The brother-in-law had a renal failure and underwent a kidney transplantation. Donors were hard to come by, but out of the blue arrived an unsolicited donor asking for no money nor reward. Who was the donor? Would friendship, good will and love endure the test of time?

Review:

It's been so long I have read a book with a beautiful, vast setting of rural beauty and life, with which the book has a very deep plot, showing the follies of human being.

The setting of the book is a local area of Kerala, Korattur, which is sat on the bank of Connolly Canal. The book starts with Loona, who first comes to David's father to seek some help but then when his father's health starts to deteriorate, Loona's real face comes out. But he still doesn't stop there as he again betrays his father for wealth and even asks his own son Cherian to betray his stage co-actors. And this act destroys his life completely.

And we see how someone's greed for wealth becomes so much that he first tries to destroy the very person who helps him and then his own son, who becomes pariah of the village, then a drug addict and his whole life changed and Loona never stops to think about the consequences.

I thoroughly enjoye the book, the writing as well as the plot. The author beautifully shows the greedy side of Loona's character, as well as Cherry's character development all through the book.

Overall I would definitely recommend this emotional journey of our protagonist with the beautiful backdrop of rural Kerala, definitely going to touch your heart.

This amazing title, “On The Banks Of Connolly Canal Impossible Tales” by Author P. J. Thobias attempts to tell the story of some simple souls who lived on the banks of Connolly Canal in the past. Some of it is true while some tales are fictional too. It is not a record of historical events but merely a sketch drawn for the reading pleasure of ordinary folks. Well, the story in this book has been set in the backdrop of the Connolly Canal and some real tragic events occur in the lives of the prime characters introduced by the author. Connolly Canal meandered along the edge of the paddy fields of Korattur!

The plot begins by taking the readers to the scene of a stormy night, where Lona, a fugitive, wandered into Ouseppetian’s house. On that fateful night, Ouseppettan suffered a stroke and became paralysed. David, his son, found himself very much ill equipped to take the reins of the household and Lona walked into that void. In course of time, the true colours of Lona were revealed. Lona’s greed for wealth prevented him from handing over the parcel of land bequeathed to the church by his father in an attempt. To get even with the church, he forced his son Cherian, to desert his co-actors from the stage play on the sodality day in the church.

Cherian became a pariah among his friends. The once iconic youth in the village became a total recluse. He took to drugs and gambling, which ended up in a prolonged incarceration. Attempts were made by his brother-in-law to rehabilitate the hub, all of which ended up in a much worse fiasco. Cherry took into his heart to wreak vengeance on his brother in law for not continuing to help him. The brother-in-law had renal failure and underwent a kidney transplantation. Donors were hard to come by, but out of the blue arrived an unsolicited donor asking for no money nor reward. Who was the donor? Would friendship, goodwill and love endure the rest of time? Well, the readers would find the answers to these prime questions through the “32 Reading Worthy Chapters” presented by the author in this title!

Now, coming to the final part, i.e. the book’s verdict where I must mention that a title like, “On The Banks Of Connolly Canal Impossible Tales' ' is for sure a MUST READ one deserves a chance by the readers. The book is most certainly a collection of reading worthy stories for the people of all ages and is written in a very clever manner. We do not get to see many amazing titles very often in the market so it will be a great deal for the book lovers to give this title a chance. In addition, author P. J. Thobias deserves all the appreciation for his honest & hard work in this title!

The novel is a semi fictional account of the author's experience while he started his life with his family in the small village of Korattur and how his father takes in a man named Lona who further gets betrayed when his father gets bedridden of a paralysis.
.
The book covers the complex relationships and the sense of community of belonging to one place brings out sometimes the worst in him but also brings with it many secrets every household lives through.
.
There is a strong sense of religion and a god-fearing community that the protagonist and Cherry his best friend, son of Lona witness and yet Cherry watching his father exploiting the poor let to a life neither him or his father had ever imagined.
.
The protagonist shows how so many lives get effected in this game of power and in the process lose the sense of community and family which the protagonist hopes to build for himself but life keep throwing their way struggles they had never experienced when they reached cities.
.
When circumstances lead them to a path where there is do or die an unknown saves the narrators life but at the cost of so many lives and relationships yet the book shows you the penance the narrative captures which has you engaged in the story and a beautiful descriptive narrative of the village the story starts and the description of every scene of the book that I could see it with my eyes.
.
Definitely worth reading and a story that will leave behind an imprint.

The wolf exposed, Rehabilitation, flight of fugitive. What do you think of these titles.
Amazing story revolves around the life of Kerala . Opening is beautiful but it will look like a simple ordinary story like a monotonous world but after some time u with a twist u will feel intrigued and that feels like u are going somewhere. I like how the author depicted the characters and weaved the story of how a stranger for shelter find a family in town and that beautiful scenery of Kerala came in front of my eyes that was soothing. Few chapters in and this book will glued you go think more about main character of this book. As his thoughts and motives are unclear.
Sometimes it takes time in between but then the magic will happen again with twist and incredible success you will be hooked. I really can’t explain how i was feeling while reading it but it was totally unforgettable read for me. How the innocent stranger becomes a family member and how his motives went ,you guys must read it for once.
I do recommend this to everyone because of its simplicity, pace , it’s lucid manner and writing style , unique plot . And most of all because of it’s Kerala village life. It’s unique title and beautiful yet very well designed cover will make you think more about this book. So guys go for it.

The book blew me away for several reasons, firstly the book has a sweet back cover and the opening is really quirky and adorable. As I began to turn the pages of the book, I found myself captivated and glued to the characters and their perspectives. All in all, I highly recommend that everyone try out this book as it's a very exciting and gripping read.

Now coming to the storyline of this book. The story Revolves around the character Who has entered the town and lives with a family which as normal as it could be. The stranger enters the family very innocently and it seems like a normal story going forward. But the twist is awaiting for the reader. Read this amazing story to know what happens in the Life of the Family Members.

Moreover, the simplicity of the language and the brilliance of the words show the expression of the novel ideas of the author. Moreover, the amount of knowledge that the author has to accumulate to write the book is clear in the author's pen. And I can say with confidence that you will not be disappointed if you read the book.

The scenes and the plot development have surprised me a lot. It's a serious reading and every genuine reader should read this book. Please go for this.

Hurry up get it for yourself.....

Book - On the Banks of Connolly
Author - P.J Thobias
My rating - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Author has beautifully designed this book, it consists of so many attractive titles and total 25 chapters. In these chapters author has mentioned the beauty of Kerala, a unique set of geographical features that have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Asia. A long shoreline with serene beaches, tranquil stretches of emerald backwaters, lush hill stations and exotic wildlife, are just a few of the wonders.

The story begins with a stranger who comes into town and ingratiates himself with a family in the town, which like any other family, is evidently normal. Father, mother, children, and community quickly form the narrative of the story of everyday life intruded upon by a stranger seeking shelter.

The author of the story has done a tremendous amount of work in order for the readers to stay with the story. He has done everything possible to improve the story and I'm grateful to the author for doing so. To explore more must read this book.

This title, "On The Banks Of Connolly Canal" is by far the WORST Book that I have read in the recent days. Well, the author has presented a very sloppy story in his book and it would not be wrong to consider it as a Pure TIME WASTE. The characterization in this book is pathetic and the introduction of way too many characters is simply highlighting the author's inability of developing strong characters. Moreover, the story in this book is unnecessarily stretched long, probably just to increase the page count as there is not much story in the book and that has resulted in making this book an extremely BORING one!

Moreover, after digging deep in the storyline the readers shall find out that there are some serious issues with this book and they too may not even consider it to be worthy of their time. Since, the author has left no option for the readers other than to DISAPPOINT them at every instances in this book.

Interesting story about the arrival of a stranger in the small town serves as a catalyst for the unfolding of events, introducing a sense of intrigue and uncertainty.

The stranger's gradual integration into the lives of the town's residents, specifically one family, adds a layer of complexity to the narrative as the reader begins to question the stranger's true intentions.

The cover of the book is captivating, and the title is intriguing, making it a perfect choice for readers looking for a gripping and thought-provoking story.

The writing style is also noteworthy, as the author masterfully weaves together a compelling narrative that keeps readers engaged from start to finish.

Overall, this book is a must-read for anyone looking for a powerful and moving story that will stay with them long after they've turned the last page.

Been quite some time since I read a book with so accurate and pretty natural elements. This book addressed a lot of issues. About greed, how it can have an effect on your close ones around you and how people over time just lose who they are in this mess.
The cover of the book is could have been better though it does gives a certain vintage aesthetic vibes. The title is nice. The character development was good and the secret element added on to the charm of it.
The book is about Cherian who eventually lost his way and was engrossed in drugs and gambling and when his loved ones tried to bring him back he wasn't in a condition to be revived. He then seeked revenge, eventually his brother in law became really sick and he found himself struggling in order to save his life.

The book is nice and breezy, beginner friendly and a good pick.

A smooth flow of events punctuated with a generous dose of twists, the story is pretty engaging.

A seemingly innocent yet crafty stranger, ingratiating himself with a family in the town, an ever-so-illusive past and equally unclear motives, the chronicles of everyday life, the illness of the patriarch being used to advantage, this story has all elements that keeps the reader slowly, yet unambiguously hooked.

The vivid scenes unconsciously create a sense of calm and relaxed quiet, as the landscape of rural Kerala gets painted.

The cover of the book is thoughtful and ,, aptly complimenting the backdrop of the story. The title too metes out justice to the central theme, never once giving itaway though, which in a way is intriguing.

The book "On the Banks of Connolly Canal" by Thobias P. J. is truly incredible. Reading this was a complete pleasure. It's exciting, so you should definitely give it a try.

Along the edge of Korattur's paddy fields, Connolly Canal meandered. Fugitive Lona entered Ouseppettan's home on a stormy night. Ouseppettan had a stroke that fateful night and lost his ability to move. Lona filled the void left when David, his son, realised how ill-prepared he was to run the household. Over time, Lona's true colours became apparent.

Everything has been presented in an amazing way. I really appreciate the author's effort for writing this. Story is very engaging and interesting.

The views of Kerela backwaters and of the lush forests from my bedroom were a beautiful sight. I absolutely loved the geographical descriptions of these natural beauties in the book.

The story's main theme is family bond and relationships. Every character, be it Lona's family or Ouseppettan's family, they are so well fleshed out personalities.

The simplicity of this story portrayed the rawness of human relationships and how the events of their lives affect each other.

The writing style is engaging and the narration didn't drag at any point for me. I was keen on finding out more about the characters and their dynamic with each other.

At a length of 247 pages on the banks of Connolly Canal by P.J. Thobias is a book that leave readers with the feeling that it has ended too quickly, input downable, seamlessly knit with rustic images and heart touching, the book is a refreshing take on village life. The book is life a take on the lives of different individuals who all residents of Korattur.

There is no doubt that the light heartedness of the book cover should not be considered as the be all and the end all because the stories within are not so simple.

So grab the book to know the whole story. Language used is easy to understand. Highly recommended.

We say this earth has everything for our needs, but not for our greed. This story is a heart-rending tale of Lona's greed and how it affects not only his relationships, but also wrecks havoc in other's lives.
The story is narrated through the eyes of the youngest son of Ousappettan who gave refuge to Lona, who came to Korattu as a fugitive.
The story has many valuable lessons on how greed destroys innocent friendships, and how a boy who was a role model ends up a hardened criminal. But what appealed to me the most was the beautiful twist in the end. The book ends with the message that, let whatever vices exist in the world, but pure love always wins no matter how many hardships it goes through.
