This is the third book in the Disaster Books. They are about friends Warren and Betsy who have a time machine and travel back in time to find out what happened at a particular disaster. This book was about the Johnstown Flood of 1889. They are easy, good books that teach a little about history. However, things aren't all sweet. For example, in this book, it describes the debris in the river catching fire and people not being able to escape. It tells of bodies floating in the river, and it tells of a little girl the kids weren't able to save. They are on a 4.3 reading level.

The third book in the time travels of Warren and Betsy. They travel back to Johnstown is hopes of saving people they know will drown in the flood. Like the other two disaster books, things do not go smoothly. All three have facts about natural disaster.

Warren and Betsy take their third trip using the Instant Communicator to do research for a school paper, a paper about the 1889 Johnstown Flood. It turns out to be more harrowing than they ever imagined.
