Ron turns towards the entrance of the hidden chamber. “Look at the way the dust is swirling around at the bottom of the stairs.”
“Yes, the air current is making it move more than the rest of the dust,” smiles Sheri. “Do you want me to explain how that works?”
“Yes, but not the dust at the bottom of the stairs,” states Ron, as he turns to the side. “I would like you to explain the same thing happening over by the wall at the end of the smooth area around those small rocks.”
Sheri follows Ron’s outstretched arm, and there is the same pattern in the dust by the wall. There are only two areas in the hidden cave below the cliff where the air is moving the dust. The air in the rest of the Chamber is still because the dust is just falling straight down.
I finally finished it. I am a very slow reader, and I get interrupted a lot with other concerns. In short, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to Book Three. I still have difficulty with the present tense story telling style. It feels a bit like being back in 1st grade reading, "See Jane run. See Dick throw the ball. See Jane chase the ball." I can't help it. That's how it feels to me. I will say that the author has become more adept with the style and does not repeat some of the inconsistencies in Book One. I will also add, the ideas and concepts of the McGuffin are very complex and esoteric and not easily understood by children.
SPOILER!! If you haven't read Book One you might want to stop here. There, you are fairly warned. The story continues with Ron learning how to control his mental time travel. There are other parties interested in what the stone is capable of and what it might reveal. I am excited to see what the next adventure will entail.
