«Le jour où mon père est mort, le 30 juillet 1980, la réalité a cessé de me passionner. J'avais quinze ans, je m'en remets à peine. Pour moi, il a été tour à tour mon clown, Hamlet, d'Artagnan, Mickey et mon trapéziste préféré ; mais il fut surtout l'homme le plus vivant que j'ai connu.
Pascal Jardin, dit le Zubial par ses enfants, n'accepta jamais de se laisser gouverner par ses peurs. Le Zubial avait le talent de vivre l'invivable, comme si chaque instant devait être le dernier. L'improbable était son ordinaire, le contradictoire son domaine.
S'ennuyait-il au cours d'un dîner ? Il le déclarait aussitôt et quittait la table, en baisant la main de la maîtresse de maison. Désirait-il une femme mariée ? Il ne craignait pas d'en faire part à son époux, en public, et d'escalader la façade du domicile conjugal le soir même pour tenter de l'enlever.
S'il écrivit des romans et plus de cent films, cet homme dramatiquement libre fut avant tout un amant. Son véritable métier était d'aimer les femmes, et la sienne en particulier.
Ce livre n'est pas un recueil de souvenirs mais un livre de retrouvailles. Le Zubial est l'homme que j'ai le plus aimé. Il m'a légué une certaine idée de l'amour, tant de rêves et de questions immenses que, parfois, il m'arrive de me prendre pour un héritier.»

Quando la gente ti domanda perché ti piace leggere vengono sempre fuori risposte imbarazzanti…

La prossima volta, suggerite a chi vi fa la domanda la lettura dell’ultimo libro di Alexandre Jardin. Che non parla di libri o di lettura e non ha nessun intento educativo, anzi. Ma dimostra meglio di qualsiasi discorso il piacere che si può provare nell’immergersi nella sfera del possibile.

Come direbbe Singer, non di ciò che si oppone al reale ma di quel che è stato e in ogni istante potrebbe essere, se non qui altrove. Nello specifico, di un’esistenza folle, totalmente altra da quella che la maggior parte di noi conduce. Moralmente riprovevole secondo alcuni standard, moralmente alta per chi considera l’amore per la vita stessa un valore tra i più preziosi.

Alexandre Jardin racconta per frammenti e aneddoti suo padre Pascal, lo “Zubial”, i suoi amori e i suoi eccessi. Lo racconta senza nascondere l’imbarazzo e il divertimento di un figlio che ha lottato per distinguersi e riconoscersi simile a una figura unica, capace in ogni momento di reinventare la realtà, di volare alto senza perdere di vista la terra.

Au début j'ai eu un peu de mal à accrocher parce que le personnage du Zubial m'énervait par son exubérance et parce que je me demandais constamment la part de vérité dans ce livre. Puis j'ai décidé de lâcher prise sur ce dernier point et j'ai dévoré la fin ! Curiuse de lire un autre roman d'Alexandre Jardin.

Dit boek is letterlijk een liefdesbrief die Alexander Jardin naar zijn eigen vader schrijft op een erg geïdealiseerde manier waarop het op enig moment vervelend en repetitief wordt.
Er zijn enkele hoofdstukken die wat meer pakkend zijn met een tintje humor en gekheid en andere verhalen die zo ongeloofwaardig klinken...
Bij overal, vlot te lezen maar daar blijft het.

Quand même aime! Ça se lisait bien pcq c’était divertissant les péripéties qu’il décrivait. Ça donnait le goût d’aventure. Très créatif belle morale, un peu émouvant. Plus des histoires décousues donc j’ai pas tanttttttt embarqué corps et âme mais quand même!

O relato não confiável de um filho saudoso rememorando as peripécias idealizadas de seu pai histriônico foi interessante no início e um prato cheio para psicanalistas, mas a narrativa ficou repetitiva e se estendeu por tempo demais.

Partly memoirs, partly fiction, all quest to understand himself, his father and make sense of the man that was the circus master of the first 15 years of Alexandre Jardin's life.

Alexandre Jardin, a wildly popular French writer, who became a "name" and won prizes with his first book, Bille en tête, the story of a very young man who romances and becomes the lover of an older friend of his mother. His career as a writer started with a bang and never slowed down after that. Still, we find in this homage to his father, this Zubial, this crazy but lovable man, that Alexandre never got over losing his father. No child really does I think, what makes this tale interesting is the talent in which it is told, the insane, crazy, free lifestyle that the Jardin family engage in. Alexandre revisited this in "Le Roman des Jardins" a few years later.
