This third book in the series has Vicar Jessame Ward looking for her place in her family of “pagan” women to help find her own “gift.” Wesberrey is its own Peyton Place and has more than its share of who’s loving who where hurt feelings and jealousy abound. I found this story quite hilarious as Jess gets more TMI than she’s expecting from the towns gossiping parishioners. I was not expecting to get “hooked” on this series but here I am wanting more. I especially enjoy the word building I’m getting from these writers.
And all of you can blame the rhubarb! The stories in this series keep on getting better and better. Pious Poison besides having a "killing ingredient", has all the others that make a good reading: friendship, team effort, cooking enterprise, family reunions, and much more. Some situations are also hilarious! I thank the author for the ARC.
Good book. Surprisingly it was not as expected. There is so much sex and who is seeing whom there is not a lot of room for the suspense/mystery. The whole goddess thing is interesting, because the lead character is a Vicar for the Church of England. Interesting storyline. Good book.
Who is poisoning the "Walkers"? Three different groups of Walkers are gearing up for a marathon when many of them fall ill from some sort of poisoning. Never fear, Reverend Jessamy Ward is on the case! Get your tea and biscuits sorted and hunker down for a great read! The Isle of Wesberrey awaits!
I’m really enjoying this series about a vicar on a small island. Her family are slightly pagan, but are supportive of her calling. After a group meeting of three different walking clubs, several of the members end up in hospital from some sort of poisoning, and one lady dies. Jess is sure this particular poisoning is murder….not the accidents the others were.
This new series by Penelope Cress has a fun cast of characters, good humour, and a real “cozy” way of approaching a mystery. I’m looking forward to reading the next book.
This series just gets better with each book. The characters are fun to be with and Vicar Jessamy Ward is on top of things even as her heart is breaking. But she has the Wesberrey Walkers and a new mystery to keep her busy between rounds and Masses and meetings.
A walmathon race is scheduled. There is a meeting to discuss it. After the meeting, several attendees become ill. One dies. Who's responsible? Will the vicar figure it out?
This was another great story in the Reverend Jessamyn Ward series. I like her and the other characters. Fun situations, sad, and crazy ones too, keep Jess busy. This one has a lot of all three. Easy, quick read.
Loved it! Love Jess and all her family, would love to spend time with them, bet it'd be great fun. Jess has joined a walkers group to get fit but also keep an eye on her sister's ex boyfriend, who is the group's trainer. They enter a competition with two other groups but people start to be ill, then one dies! Can Jess figure out what is going on? Can't wait for the next book.
I received an advance copy of this book but am leaving my review voluntarily.
Book 3 was exactly as I expected - intriguing, fun to read and, unexpected twists and turns.
Bring together jealousy, a possible psychopath, and murder, and you have yourself a page turner novel you will not be able to put down until the very end.
