24, the award-winning TV series from Fox, returns in this special one-shot from J. C. Vaughn and Mark L. Haynes, the writers of IDW's 24: One Shot and 24 Stories. Jack Bauer must battle ecological and economic chaos when a terrorist attack on an experimental oil drilling installation reveals a plot to render the United States' subterranean oil fields permanently useless.
Second 24 graphic novel I've read after Operation Nightfall. The first thing that I see is the art style is different. I liked Operation Nightfall's art but this is much better. Midnight Sun really looks like a comic book, bright colors and all, with a realistic edge to it. Jack fits perfectly in with all the other characters and there's a lot of detail in the environments. I also liked the fact that the story was something completely different, something you won't see in the tv-series because it feels a bit too low-key for it. It's about eco-terrorism and that just doesn't seem to fit into the tv series. It also doesn't use all the worn out cliches that the tv series has and just does it's own thing really well. The story is completely stand alone with no references to the tv series except for some characters like Chase Edmunds. Making novels from a tv series does have disadvantages though; main characters are not gonna get killed or paralized or anything because they have to be safe and sound when the next season airs.
