Свакоме бих пожелео да на један дан уђе у моју кожу, увуче се под моју одежду, хода мојим кораком – и да видим да ли би били држећи, какав би им био газ, каква носивост стигме. Слободно запишите да је у питању злочин из мржње, чујем себе како кажем лицу у униформи, мислећи на јадну Софи Ланкастер и слутећи њену грозничаву близину… Е, зато је готика првенствено у стилу – њега треба преживети! (I'm not sure why my edition has 'Vamps and Dandies' as the subtitle instead of 'The Dark Subculture' but I presume it's the same book) 'Goth' is a fairly quick and easy read with plenty of photos throughout. The author, whom I am a fan of, promises us a variety of photo material to exemplify the various clothing styles of Goth, but (apart perhaps from the "street style" photos as he calls them) they do seem fairly tacky and sometimes costume-like, not really a fair representation of the goth style as something to be taken seriously but more of a gallery of not-that-great taste. The text however is very interesting, although it does appear as a simplified version of Baddeley's 'Goth Chic' book. I would love to read about the goth(ic) style from a more in-depth perspective, perhaps from someone who is more knowledgeable in the fashion and style area rather than music and film (perhaps from a fashion historian). In the end it's a good book and I'm glad to have it on my bookshelf.

Perfecto para aprender de los entresijos no sólo de escritores míticos como Poe, Mary Shelley o Lovecraft; si no también tanto de productoras y en especial, actores y directores de películas desde los años 30 hasta la actualidad.

Cultura gótica referencia poco al gotiqueo que yo busco (que de haberlas, haylas); pero si eres cinéfilo y un poco cotilla pues no te sabrá mal. Especialmente el segundo. Salseo mediático por todos lados y movidas entre actores xd!

I rented this book in a library 13 years ago when I was a teenager and found it very complete and full of informations. Now that I re-read it, it still sounds accurate and complete on the history of goth. Would love Gavin Baddeley to release an updated version of this essential book.

Another beautiful book written by the legendary Gavin Baddeley! Over 200 color photographs take us on a new journey through the goth aesthetic.
Virtually a sequel to the book Goth Chic: A Connoisseur's Guide to Dark Culture, it focuses on goth fashion styles and influences.

This book was a great overview of Goth culture, it's origins in movies, music and literature. I really enjoyed seeing the evolution of Goth as a culture, the various subcultures within that popped up and the ideas people have about subcultures in general.

My only complaint about this book is the absolute lack of one part of the subculture, that being "Goths of Color" basically anyone who isn't completely pale. There is some mention of the Asian influence on Goth, specifically the Japanese Goth explosion. I'm not sure if this lack of inclusion is due to the fact that the author is British and Britain doesn't have any non-white or Asian Goths, but I know here in the US we have goths of pretty much every color and creed available.

But considering this books breadth this complaint is fairly small in comparison to the scene in general, I do hope though in other books I'll see more of a diverse presence outside of just subgenre differences.
