Since my daughter died in 2015, I have frequently returned to Kindertodtenlieder and found it is a continuing source of solace, communion and raw honesty. The poem in this short video, "Over all Graves," is one of my favorites.

An incredible collection of poems. While I am very lucky to not be able to relate to them, they show an immense amount of true emotion. It's heartbreaking to read about all the different things he's worrying and thinking about, things that wouldn't even have occured to me without reading these poems, but it's also so beautiful how some of these poems show such a deep amount of love. Very grateful for my favorite composer Mahler for having introduced me to these poems - if anyone is interested, he set five of them to music: https://youtu.be/w_nHinNVJLk .
My heart goes out to anyone who has lost a child.

Wahnsinnig ist die Fülle an Todtenliedern, Masse statt Klasse? Vielleicht ein bisschen. Aber auf jeden Fall musste ich alle paar Lieder ein Tränchen wegwischen, also irgendwas hat Rückert schon richtig gemacht.
