This is another strange book on the '1001 children's books to read before you grow up' list. It reads a bit awkward, but it has an interesting story line for a kid's book. A bird named Dodo and a bird who has lost his leg and isolated himself meet and fall in love. It's really unique. I've read a lot of children's books and never seen anything quite like it. I suppose it's something of a 'Beauty and the Beast' type story minus the witch and curses. But, it's modernized and unique enough to be worth a read.
This is a children's picture story book, but it is the nicest romance I have read in a while. Petra Mathers' stories are the best. Simple, but respectful that kids are intelligent and have their own understanding of the world.
Even if you don't have children, this might be a good set of books to keep around the house. If you do volunteer story-reading for libraries or schools, Mathers' books would be a great choice.
This is a very strange, but entertaining story about love. I like that the story shows that there's someone out there for everyone, but as we finished the book, we all let out a collective, 'Hmm.'
The illustrations are colorful and cartoonish, but I wasn't a big fan of the style. We enjoyed reading this book together, but I doubt that I'll look for more of the books in the Lottie's World series.
