This is a fun book! It is a repeating rhyming refrain which makes it sing-songy and memorable for children. Kids love that repeating refrain. They also love the story about a little mouse constantly bugged by a pesky little fly. We have all experienced a fly, or little brother or sister so it is easy to relate to. The best part of the book though is the colorful, bright pictures that are full of action and are absolutely beautiful and delightful to look at. This book is enjoyable for all ages for all the reasons stated above.
-SUMMARY: This is an illustrated version of the classical song. A mouse tries to get rid of an unwanted fly who is constantly bothering him and wouldn't leave him alone.
-REVIEW: I felt like the pictures go along great with the words on each page. It had enjoyable illustrations.
An illustrated version of the song. About a poor mouse that desperately tries to escape and get rid of a pesky fly. My son enjoyed the book and I enjoyed reading it to him.
I probably wouldn't rate this book so low if I hadn't had to read/sing it so many times. The line pacing is just dreadful--are these all original verses?
So, so cute and clever! Iza Trapani's books are all so great as they build on the original verse of song and add several more. The illustrations are adorable as well.
Based on the song, the picture book adds illustrations of a fly desperately trying to get away from a pesky and persistent fly.
I've never been too thrilled with the song itself, so I'm not easily enchanted by the book version. The illustrations are humorous and I'm sure kids will like all the mouse's antics to get away from the fly. But not a book I'm going to be recommending or picking out myself except for maybe a music teacher.
A cute story about a little mouse who is being bothered by a fly. The writing has a good rhyming flow to it, and the pictures are very bright. Would be a good book to read to younger children around 5 or 6 years old.
The classic nursery rhyme set against watercolor illustrations with wonderful rhyming read aloud text. Readers will love the expressive faces of the mouse who is so bothered by the fly.
Following the story is sheet music with all the verses.
This one is a cute sort of 'bouncy' which is fun for little readers. While I completely commiserate with the oh-so-pestered mouse, I do think he can be a bit mean in trying to get rid of his antagonist. Overall, it was a more fun read for me than my tot.
A cute extension of a children's song. The pictures are nice, and the underlying story is about belonging to parents is sweet, even for that pesky fly.
So cute! I love Trapani's interpretations of well-known nursery rhymes. The stories created are funny and sweet. My daughter and I love these stories, especially Shoo Fly!
