Totally Forgiving Ourselves

Rate this book
The author's 'Total Forgiveness' touched a raw nerve amongst Christian readers and rapidly became the writer's best-selling book. But it only told half the story - how to forgive others. The teaching is completed in this account of how it is equally important that we forgive ourselves.

Found the book quite repetitive. Absolutely LOVED and was totally moved by Total Forgiveness so probably approached the book with too high expectations, but I did finish it disappointed.

Going through a very difficult time of depression due to tragedy and perfectionism. This book has been a beacon of hope and one I will dip into often as I work out my recovery.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - I know this to be the case as usually I only read at night but I was waking up earlier than normal to read this also!

My memory is terrible but the wonderful things I will be taking away from this book are in no particular order:

* Romans 8:28 - "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

* When you truly forgive yourself you do not keep 'counting the injury' it has been paid for by Jesus blood, it is done. When it is brought to mind we do not need to keep asking forgiveness for it.

* When the devil plagues us, turn to the scriptures, quote them, sing them, whatever it takes to get your mind away from the negativity he is drawing your mind to. 'Set your mind on the things of God's.

I needed to read this book. It’s not a theologically dense book, or a book that explains profound mysteries. But it is a book that has potential to have a profound impact on its readers. And it does so by speaking plain truth in plain language in order to get an important point across as clearly as possible. And I needed to hear that message without the distraction of a bunch of philosophical mumbo-jumbo. R.T. Kendall has the unique gift of writing as a teacher who is also very pastoral. And that may be why I found this book so challenging as well as so reassuring. Like I said, I knew that I needed this book because of my own struggles in the area of forgiving myself, and I found it to be immediately relevant and immensely practical.
