Ein gutes Buch, das die Gräuel des Vietnam-Kriegs beschreibt. Aus der Sicht von 4 vietnamesischen Kindern, die auf der Flucht auf einen, von seiner Einheit isolierten, amerikanischen Soldaten treffen. Hier beginnt die Kriegserfahrung als Mensch, und das geht unter die Haut. Im Kopf tragen sie freilich die jeweilige Propaganda mit sich... "Die siegreiche Volksarmee des Demokratischen Kampuchea", "Unsere Freiheit wird am Hindukusch verteidigt" oder "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Ein Buch ohne Happy End. Ein Buch, das heute noch aktuell ist.
Es fiel mir damals schon auf, dass in Deutschland Bücher, die den Wähler gegen das Establishment beeinflussen könnten, als Kinderbücher herausgegeben werden. Das ist auch bis heute so geblieben.

Utterly ridiculous ending. B-52’s diving and strafing? A parachute assault? Unbelievable.

Actually found this book in a library give away bin in Elementary school. The cover of my copy is worn and old, but I love it dearly, simply because of its possible historic accuracy. The way Harry changes as a character in here makes him so realistic in my eyes...
