In pursuit of the cold-blooded outlaw who had destroyed everything he cared about, Deputy Marshal Jesse Redford journeys from Tennessee into the eerie heart of Georgia's Okefinoke swamps, only to become involved with a beautiful and innocent healer. Original.
I got through Dulcimer about as fast as Jesse got through the Okefinoke. That is to say, it took much longer than necessary. The setting was original and gripping, and the characters were interesting. However, the pacing was way to slow, and certain parts were glanced over, while there were chapters devoted to others. There was so much angst and build up between Lilah and Jesse, and then when they finally get down to it, we get a fade out. Really? Thanks for the reward, Ms. Leigh. It would have read better if there was more about Lilah's time in Homerville, or her pregnancy (?! which was also barely touched on). The language is difficult to get into, and it took me until maybe page 100 to really look past it. It was an okay story that would have been made really great by only a few changes.
