She spent her early childhood trying to pry romance novels off her mothers face. One day, she got so fed up with it, she asked her mother to tell her about the book she was reading. She was so enthralled, she took that book from her mother; read it in one sitting….and has been hooked ever since. She refuses to tell anyone how long ago that was.
As a youth, she wanted to be a doctor, dentist, nurse, teacher, or physical therapist. Instead, she ended up working for a health insurance company, a visiting nurse association, a therapy center for children and a television station. After finally deciding what she wanted to be when she grew up, she decided to be a librarian. For the past two years, Lyric has spent her days with 13-14 year olds in a middle school library.
Lyric still felt something was missing. After surfing the web and finding eHarlequin…she knew it was time for her to finally pick up that pen….um keyboard and start to write. In 2003, her first manuscript….after several re-writes of chapter 1…began.
Lyric’s private book collection includes her favorite authors: Catherine Coulter, Julia Quinn, Amanda Quick, Nora Roberts, Mia Zachary, Jodi Lynn Copeland, Jaci Burton, E. Lynn Harris, Dr. Suess, Barbara Park, Eoin Colfer, Jenny Nimmo, Lemony Snickett, J.K. Rowling, and John Grisham.

Sierra is a woman who’s poured her heart and soul into her business and fought long and hard to be exactly where she wanted to be. After struggling to prove herself to her family, she gathered the courage to do what made her happy. With her independence and future firmly in place, she’s compartmentalized her love life, to friends with benefits only. A little intervention from her best friend and business co-owner changes things when she invites her cousin, Wesley to the spa. What should’ve been a relaxing weekend turns into a time of temptation when sparks fly and Sierra is forced to re-evaluate her way of thinking.
I liked Sierra. She was strong, self-sufficient, sophisticate, and witty. Running a spa is demanding, but she rose to the occasion, and truly enjoyed her job. That’s something not everyone could say, and I admired her for that. While her stubbornness made me want to shake her, it helped make her real. Ms. James has a real knack for creating characters I find authentic and believable.
Wesley was a man lost. After being shot on his job as a police officer, the man needed time to heal and think about what he wanted. I enjoyed taking the soul search journey with him. Thoughtful, polite, and considerate, he had a silent strength about him I liked.
This is the story of two people looking to build a new life and find the meaning of happiness I highly recommend.
