Alicia's Song

Rate this book
In Search of Perfect Harmony

For Alicia James, something was missing, and her entire life seemed off-key. Her childhood romance hadn't ended the way she dreamed, and to be honest, she was wary of trying again. Still, she found solace in the fact that her career was inspiring and her sisters were the most loving family a woman could have. And together with those sisters, Alicia found a magic in song that seemed almost able to carry away her woes.

In fact, singing carried Alicia away--from her home in modern-day Wyoming to Alaska, a century before her own. There she found everything she'd been lacking: a sexy, dark-haired gentleman with an angelic child just crying out for guidance. And Alicia, who'd always felt she'd needed direction herself, was everything this pair needed. Suddenly it seemed as if life were reaching out and giving Alicia the chance to create a beautiful music she'd never been able to make with her sisters--all she needed was the courage to sing her part.

Cute little story, but with a few 'doesn't make sense" moments. The night she arrives in the past, she trades her 1990s stuff for what she needs at the general store. She traded her solar powered cell phone, telling the woman it's a music box, powered by the sun. You can't be giving tech from 100 years in the future to random people of the 1880s! Every sci-fi reader knows this. Lol. And then, when she finally tells Caleb where she's from he can't believe it, and keeps saying, just give me one piece of tangible evidence, just one thing, just please something to show me. Oh, no, sorry. There is no such thing, she says, you just have to believe me, trust me. I'm yelling at her, go get the bloody phone!

After this she goes to her room. He follows and there she is, sitting on the bed looking at.. wait for it.. a colour photo of herself with her sisters. Girl, you had a colour photo in your damn pocket the whole time? He takes it, and goes off to ponder. Is he struck by the fact that this is a photo (photos existed in the 1890s) - but in living colour; that he has in hand something made with technology that does NoT exist? Nope. He thinks about how close she is with her sisters, and what a good "rendering" this is on the strange paper. He's supposed to be smart!

Just had to get that off my chest. Anyway, it's an old book.. found in a 2nd hand bin for a buck. Whaddya want for almost nothing? 😁 I did read the whole thing (except for skipping the sexy bits), and I have zero problem quitting a book if it bores me, so it's not that bad.
