Alexander Lloyd wrote my favourites, who truly, astutely knows cats. Others are antiquated jokes. None of my cats, even the one who doesn't care to be held, can be described as "indifferent". Numerous quotations were of that preposterous sort, like solely wanting food. The greatest lights of my life are my kitties. One has been out-of-sight for three months. You can imagine what a relief it will be to confirm he is all right and home. It has just recently begun to snow, so he will be heading back.
I couldn't believe that two of Alexander's helpfully-timed observations struck the heart of our worry and eased it. That one part of a cat's personality and ambition must see the outdoors. It is nothing to do with lacking happiness with us. It is comforting that we know he vanished not from any peril but on a common, willing adventure. It is something additional cats enjoy, that does not diminish loving our home and us. Our boy is a cuddler, so the wandering trait is a surprise. However, when he is back safe and well, those three months will be erased by our gratefulness to hold him as usual. What a gift, to find positive assertions easing my worry when I need it!
The drawings are another highlight. One is so good, it looks like a photograph. Those not keen with words to describe their love for cats, sure show it in warm, beautiful art. The writing selection could be better but the art is excellent and I liked a lot about the book. I value the musings by the writers who know cats. Alexander's boosts are uncanny. Several other appealing and amusing quotes did me good too. Sometimes books soothe us personally. Thank you, Helen Exley. This cover resembles his sister!
This small book is pretty with beautiful color illustrations of cats made of different artists, all on glazed paper. There are of course cat quotes coming from all over the place. The book is small and can be put in a small bag easy. It's a perfect gift for cat lovers out there.
What a lovely little book, filled with the most gorgeous pictures of cats, and lovely quotes about them. Too many remind me of my lovely boy Shadow, who is the sweetest and most gentle cat.
A charming little volume that will delight all cat lovers. It consists of pictures of cats at work, rest and play, often fancifully depicted and impossibly loveable, mixed with quotations from the famous and the not-so-famous about our (and their) feline friends. The pictures are by a variety of artists modern and not so modern, including one by Renoir and are all of them irresistible, and the quotations by authors as eminent as Lewis Carroll:-"It is as very inconvenient habit of kittens (Alice had once made the remark) that whatever you say to them, they always purr."; W H Auden; Colette; Compton Mackenzie; Montaigne; Thoreau and many others. A must for the cat lover.
