Carolyn Fulgenzi was born on 28 July 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, USA, daughter of Janet (McLaughlin) and Andrew Fulgenzi. She graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and completed her undergraduate education at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. She continued her studies attending Syracuse University receiving her Master’s in English Education. After retiring as a teacher with the Fayetteville-Manlius School District, she joined the faculty at Syracuse University as an adjunct professor in the writing department. Concurrently, she was also teaching at Onondaga Community College.
Carolyn blamed her tenth grade English teacher for nudging her into the writer's life. Sister Rose Terrence insisted that she enter a short story contest sponsored by the Detroit News, and Cara won! Of course, she was thrilled with the award -- a dictionary that still sits on her desk -- but at that time, her goal in life was to become an actress, and eventually, she attained that goal. She married Mr Hanlon, and had three sons: Kevin D., Brian A, and Brendan J. Hanlon. Only after her three sons were born that she turned her full attention to writing again. She sold her first Temptation to Harlequin in 1994, and that book, C.J.'s Defense as Carolyn Andrews, also sits on her desk -- right next to the dictionary. Since 2000, she wrote under the pseudonym of Cara Summers. She believed that her background in theater had influenced her writing, allowing her to create new characters and bring them to life for the reader. She passed away on 10 September 2013.
The back story is the same as in Twin Temptation - two sisters who never knew about the other are reunited after twenty-six years, but thanks to their mother's will have no time to get to know each other before having to spend 21 consecutive days in each other's shoes.
Now it's time for Jordan to live Maddie's life. A life that includes the hunky cowboy of a neighbor, Cash Landry. And while Cash and Maddie are just and only friends, Cash and Jordan are anything but friends...Again at night, before they even officially meet. And Cash isn't as quick on the uptake as Jase was.
So the author took the blazing attraction between h/h, and thrown in an attempted murder or two...And got an almost exact replica of her (aforementioned) previous book.
Again, the romance was rushed - sorry, but I just don't buy people falling madly, I-want-to-spend-my-lifetime-loving-you in love in two days. And to take the same initial nudge - making love while at least one of them thinks it's a dream, while they don't even know each other - isn't exactly the best way to start.
Though I complained about the first book's "indecision" about genres, it was the suspenseful edge that kept it flowing, and this is even more true about this one. It was the mad race downhill with a van glued to the bumper, the old man allegedly falling half-way down a cliff, the vandalism on the ranch that kept me interested enough to even finish this story. And the final reveal of the baddie was truly a surprise. Well done, Ms. Summers, maybe you should stick to suspense from now on.
Well, if you already own this book (or two books), you might go ahead and give it a try, but I'd recommend you rather read the two-book series from 2008 by Leslie Kelly - Slow Hands and Heated Rush. A much better (and romance-driven) reading experience.
If you haven't read the first one, don't bother with this one. In reality if both books were bound as one volume it would have been a much more enjoyable experience. Unbelievable plot. Unbelievable actions. Unbelievable characters. Yeah, not my favorite. 2.5 stars with a healthy dose of benefit of the doubt.
I found this plot less convoluted, but no more believable than the previous book (Twin Temptation). I like Jordan and Cash, although I felt a bit clobbered over the head with Cash admiring Jordan's inner strength over and over again. It's a nice change from other romance authors (and common perception), but a consistent theme in Cara Summers' work, that the man is the one eager to make the relationship permanent. The explanation for why the sisters were separated was interesting, if far-fetched. This was a fun and pretty quick read, although I found myself more distracted than with the previous book, and I probably won't read it again. As I mentioned in my review of Twin Temptation, in Summers' books the priorities usually rank 1) the mystery, 2) steamy sex, and 3) romance. The time frames are also usually abbreviated to 3 days or less. Characters don't have a chance to grow, and they only reveal enough of themselves to resolve the mystery that threatens them. It's a niche, and when I'm in the mood for it, she fits the bill.
Maddie & Jordan were twins, separated as infants, Maddie living with their father and Jordan living with their mother. After the death of both parents, they are brought together as a condition to their mother's will. Now both must live the other's life for 21 days in order to inherit Ware Jewelry.
In this book, Jordan is headed to the ranch to live the life of a ranch hand.
