I grew up in a family of restaurateurs and professional cooks, and when I graduated from Allegheny College to support myself, I apprenticed at a Viennese and French pastry shop in Cambridge, Mass. From there I fell into the world of recipe development and food styling in NYC, and then wound up supervising major food accounts for brands like Tabasco Pepper Sauce. One day I found myself sitting in front of a TV camera, talking about how to choose a ripe melon for the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association and realized that what I loved most about my job was advising consumers on how to shop, cook, and eat healthy, delicious, economic meals. When I write a recipe, I try to envision the cook and provide instructions that explain a particularly difficult step or technique or how to find an unusual ingredient. Above all, I believe that cooking and eating well is a lifetime activity that everyone should find time to learn and practice. Happy Cooking!

The book begins by presenting the basics of grilling. It then goes in to different methods of Seasoning, such as marinades, rubs, and sauces. Also in that section is a chapter on side dishes.

The next section teaches you how to grill standards such as ribs, burgers, and kabobs.

Section four goes into detail about grilling beef, pork, lamb, poultry, fish, vegetarian dishes, and finger foods. Throughout the book is a large amount of recipes.

Good basic guide to selecting a grill, investing in essential equipment, and getting the fire going. Lots of recipes, many of which seem simple yet sophisticated, and therefore perfect for the griller who wants to graduate from brats and burgers. Concludes with a short list of good BBQ joints across the US and some tips for hosting a successful cook-out. It was also fairly free of the overly informal and just plain bad writing that is common in the Dummies series, which was a plus.

Great Overview and Recipies

Classic Dummies guide to everything grilling. From picking out a grill to how to cook almost anything grillable, this book has it all. I use it for reference all the time, and I've grilled for awhile.

I set a goal to learn to grill. It would only take about a chapter, but this book is very thorough and is loaded with recipes.
