Tachibana Higuchi (樋口 橘, HIGUCHI Tachibana), born 1976-03-16 , is a Japanese manga artist. In year 1996, she first made her debut work in Bessatsu Hana to Yume's 5th issue, entitled 5 Gatsu no Sakura (『5月のサクラ』?).

During an interview with Tokyopop, she gave a detailed account of how she started as a mangaka.

"I first submitted a manga story a while after I graduated from high school. Up until then I was studying for the entrance examinations for the Art University, and as part of that, I sometimes drew manga and four-panel strip comics for fun.

"Because I was conscious of the fact that I had started drawing manga in earnest at a later age, I think my progress during the beginning on drawing and storytelling techniques was fast as I frantically tried to absorb everything I could learn about creating manga. After the serialization of the story began, as I got busy, I was so desperate to submit it on time that I feel that the drawings probably haven’t improved much compared to before. During the serialization of the manga, I think my story telling techniques improved more as I concerned myself with how to catch the attention of the readers, how well one can incorporate what the readers are seeking into the story."

Her current ongoing work is Gakuen Alice.

While I'm still not a huge fan of the art, the combination of laid-back storytelling and suspense is well done, and there's a lot of imaginative detail throughout to add charm. Mikan is the straightforward, honest, compassionate and, yes, mildly dim main character type that's one of my favorites in manga and anime. I also appreciate that this story written for middle schoolers actually has middle schoolers in the primary roles, rather than teenagers, and friendship rather than romance is the prevailing sentiment.

Contains Chapters 17 - 22: At the beginning of this volume we briefly get to meet the Special Ability classes teacher Noda Sensei but he isn't around very long. I really enjoyed reading about the Alice Festival and the Special Class RPG Event. Watching Tsubasa and Natsume interact is also fun and I hope to see more of their interactions around Mikan in the future. We also get to learn a bit more about Hotaru in this volume. I look forward to continuing the series.

This volume corresponds with episodes 16, 17, & 18 of the anime series.
Corresponding Anime Episodes:
Episode 16: Imagine the Maze, the Magic Lamp
Episode 17: Hotaru's Secret (Connects to Chapter 22 in Manga)
Episode 18: Just Two Of Us, In The Dark (Connects to Chapter 21 in Manga)

Tady to akorát zbytečně natahovalo příběh o nezajímavé informace o nudný charakterech, a když vezmete v úvahu počet postav...

:D Pár věcí mě tu i pobavilo. A nic dalšího mě nenapadá. Ups...

Konec mi nijak zvlášť radost neudělal, jelikož je tam spoustu nelogických věcí, což mě štve. A celkově mi to přišlo celé divné

Anglické obálky se mi líbí o dost více než ty japonské. Vypadají víc elegantně a vznešeně.

The genie game is REALLY interesting... I would totally want to play. Ugh, what makes me so sad is that people at the academy are TOTALLY detached from their family. TELL ME WHYYYYY! Ugh, I'm so mad that's a rule. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Luca likes Mikan now... which is gonna be awkward af because the obvious ship is her and Natsume. Like I said it's gonna be awkward... BUT I'M HERE FOR IT BECAUSE I'M ALL ABOUT THAT COMPLICATED SHIP LIFE! But honestly, Luca is so cute... I feel high key bad for him now. (Like I do with all secondary characters...)

Alice festival in different categories alice. which alice category are the best =). Natsume wanted to pick the lamp of Tsubasa so he become his slave but instead he found lamp of mikan. Poor mikan hanging out with luka n natsume together through the festival n meet their friends. Hotaru meet her brother for the first time n they talk together when mikan always interrupt their conversation. Natsume jealous of luka with mikan together at the hunted mansion also saw mikan's panties, pervert. Love the mind reader who always with natsume.

I guess you would call this a transition from one arc to the next, but I just love this volume! This volume centers around the cultural festival at school and the story is charming and funny. The budding antagonist/romance relationship between Nataume and Mikan is excellent. I just love this series is much, and rereading it has been a great experience.

Gakuen Alice is still in my top 10 favorite manga series of all time.

It is good, but I will sadly not finish this manga. As much as I loved it when I was younger, it's not something that I will read right now (maybe I will pick it up again one day, who knows)

it was a cute volume. I still dislike the SH played for laughs by Natsume but it is cute that they are opening their ❤️ to each other. I will continue with the next volume.

I came to these manga by the anime, having been introduced to the charming series by my boyfriend, who is always trying to broaden my anime-horizons (I'm not the biggest fan, to be honest, as most anime tends to be either too perverse or opaque for me. My manga experience has also been limited to, I'll admit, the entire run of SailorMoon, even when it got boring and stupid, and a copy of Dragonball Z here and there.) The Gakuen Alice series, of a 10 year-old girl whose love for her best friend has her running away from her country home to the big city, is smart and funny, bringing new life to the boarding-school/magical-kids genre. I'd been looking for the books for a while, and was gratified to find that the larger chain bookstores had recently begun carrying them (Vol 5 due out in December!) I wasn't entirely sure whether the anime had provided a faithful translation, and while there are differences, both versions of the story have proven very entertaining. The manga, in particular, is packed with funny little comments from the author: imagine Harry Potter with a dash of Gossip Girl snark. Overall, a lovely book that made me laugh out loud and tear up in a span of pages. Highly recommended.

I did not know what to expect when I started reading this manga, but it has really grown on me! It's a little like Harry Potter - well a lot like Harry Potter, 'magic' and secrets and all, but it's got a uniquely Japanese literary flavor that is irresistible. The characters are all so unique, interesting and lovable, and the story is nicely layered so that it's straightforward, but hides a shadier layer of mysteries. It's not merely the lighthearted childish story it first appears to be, addressing many deeper issues as well. This volume had a very familiar schooldays plot line about the misadventures of a school festival, but it was a school festival for children with magical powers - so it had plenty of unique twists! I was surprised to find out that Hotaru had a brother, and their non-relationship is as unique as everything else in this series. The characters are a lot deeper than I first imagined! I'm really looking forward to reading more!

This series is really delightful. Our heroine, Mikan, reminds me of a less spastic Sana (from Kodocha) and Alice Academy reminds me a little of Hogwarts from Harry Potter (instead of wizards, we have child geniuses). While the story appears to be on the light and happy side, something is brewing under the surface: a mystery I'm anxious to learn more about as it slowly unravels.

The world Tachibana Higuchi has created is intricate and full of rules, but thankfully the explanations don't bog down the flow of the story. The humor is spot on, particularly in conjunction with the comedic expressions, which are done well (and I usually don't appreciate comedic artwork very much). I'm so curious to see what is going to happen next - volume 5 can't arrive soon enough in my mailbox (yes...I am buying this series; I think it's going to be a keeper).

Love this series. It is so cute. This volume had me laughing. Poor Mikan with Natsume in this volume. In one way we see another side of Natsume that he does look out for his friends in another way we see him teasing poor Mikan. This volume has them having the school festival all of the different division in the school have to do something. Mikan group comes up with a really neat maze you have to go through, the Prez group has a haunted house and Hotaru makes a really cook machine for hers (Luca is so cute walking through the Haunted house with a bunny). Also in this volume you find out a little more about Hotaru family. If you like Manga and want something cute and fun to read I suggest this series.

With the cultural festival in full swing, we get some character development for Mikan and the members of her Alice-type class. As the action focuses on them, it gives the author the opportunity to do some crazier things as they provide some significant entertainment with some slightly less than useful abilities.

Tie that in with the continuing character development of the leads and you have a fun little volume.
