I've lived six lives in one and it all shows up in the books I write, one way or another.

I was always a risk taker and broke mustangs at thirteen years old in Oregon. I learn to break them with love, not threat or pain.

At 17 years old, I picked night-crawlers (worms) out in our Oregon orchards from 9pm to midnight, every night. I earned enough money to buy my school clothes and book. I also plunked down $600 to a flight company at the Medford, Oregon airport and asked them to teach me...a girl...to fly. I soloed in 12 hours, which is average. From that time until I left for the US Navy at 18, I had accrued 39 hours of flight time in my Cessna 150 single engine airplane.

I was in the US military and was an AG3 (weather forecaster). There was no airplane club, so I couldn't fly when I was in the Navy. But I could look at the clouds in the sky ;-).

Later, I flew in a B-52 bomber for a day and night mission (18 hours total), a T-38 Talon jet, USAF, where I was riding in a "chase plane" on a test flight in a Dragonfly jet.

I was one of the first AFLA (American Fencing League of America) women fencers to fence with epee and sabre. These weapons were closed to women because they were too 'heavy' for a female to handle. I said baloney and fought the males and won half my bouts. I was part of a surge of women fencers on the East Coast in the 1970's to push for equality in the sport. Together, we changed the sport and changed the mind of the men. Today? In the Olympics? Women now fence in foil, epee and sabre, thanks to what we did as a vanguard showing the world it could be done.

I then became a volunteer firefighter when I was a civilian once more, the first woman in an all - male fire department in West Point, Ohio for three years. I became a local expert not only in firefighting, driving the engine and tanker trunks, but also had training in hazardous material (Reynoldsburg Fire Academy, Columbus, OH).

My books always reflect what I experienced. If you like edgy, gritty, deeply and emotionally intense love stories with sympathetic heroes and heroines, check out my newest series that will be available mid-Oct. 2015, and it incorporates much of what I have lived.

2.5 stars of meh actually. The premise is good - alien artifact cut into pieces and scattered throughout time and around the globe, modern people sent to retrieve them - the execution of *this* installment was off though.

Eh, as long as the H/h focused on the mission, it wasn't bad. Unfortunately, they had a history and there was where the story broke down, badly.

The first impression of her - "I will not go on a mission with him! I work alone! You can't make me!" - was that of a petulant child. (actually, she didn't say precisely those words but that was the tone). We're told he's a controlling neanderthal - by her. The impression of him - "hello baby" (not that precisely) was of a flirt. And we're constantly told that her nipples responded to him. Every time he flirted with her, he got called a controlling neanderthal. And he just wouldn't open up and trust her, which was why she broke up with him two years ago.

Which was another thing - the impression I got was that they met two years ago in Afghanistan, but they dated two years and broke up two years ago. Errr...did I miss something?

Now, he finally opens up and tells her his father had no patience for emotional outbursts which made him the closed up individual he is today. Yeah... what about his mother? The parents were together, so why was this *all* dear old dad's fault?

We won't get into the fact that the H/h were in different branches of the military and apparently able to spend *2* years in a relationship in Afghanistan.

Fortunately, the series is written by an assortment of authors. Unfortunately, there are 12 pieces to be recovered in 4 books and 4 overpriced short stories. And...the last was published 3 years ago so apparently the series was dropped without ending it. Way to go publishers.

A lire !

2.5. It's very meh. A lot of tiem travel details are crammed in the beginning of the book and is kind of confusing. The romance is kind of cliche and we really never find out the hero's issue. Interestingly, the heroine was in Afganastainbut we learn little of their military training. They travel back to ancient Rome--Ceasors' mistress is not well developed enough honestly and by far teh most interesting character in the book.

This was truly terrible. I can't even believe that I made myself finish it. I was loaned this one and the next two in the series, but good Lord... Somehow they seemed to know all of my very least favorite tropes in romance novels and wrote the book around them.

The Seeker had potential but it wasn't very well written. The plot was bizarre but then I expected that from the summary. The ending felt rushed. The characterizations were thin. How am I supposed to care about these characters if I don't find out anything about them, apart from a basic personality profile and their job descriptions (and that they're hot for one another)? Although the author did research ancient Greece, there was some inappropriate ethnic stereotyping. At least the featured couple kept their pants on most of the time. Two stars.

Setting: Red Rock University, Flagstaff Arizona… lab, conference room, campus; 44BC Via Appia 10 miles outside of Rome; Servilia’s home – with 7 ft high brick wall around; Centaurian Central Command; Pleiades temple;

Characters:
Delia Sebastian: time traveler; can see auras; ex-soldier; can block someone trying to mind read;

Captain Jake Tyler – US Army Special Forces: can read minds; time traveler; arrogant; closed emotionally;

General Beverly Ashton: head of the program; retired army, retired after lost 10 people to time travel; but got private funding, and recovered the 10, and expanded the program;

Professor Athena Carswell: brilliant; can focus thought, while wearing the crown found at the Roswell site in the 40’s and can send people through time – with the clothes, language, knowledge they need to move around seamlessly; has deciphered a journal that tells of a bronze disk, broken into 12 pieces, and hidden throughout time… and once all pieces retrieved, it would signal the Pleiades and the universe they were ready to enter space travel; piece missing is that some earth women carry a gene that makes them candidates to use the time/space crowns, allowing them to navigate through space in seconds… something that the Centurians don’t want to happen as otherwise they can continue with their monopoly to space travel business;

Lord Kentar / Torbar Alhawa of the Desert Horse Clan: (Kapaneas): Centurians, who want to prevent earth from finding out their potential powers, they have been monitoring the time stream… and when they notice 2 going back into Roman times, Torbar is sent to investigate and stop them… he merges into the form of Kapaneas, a scribe of General Brutus;

General Marcus Brutus: politically opposite of Julius Caesar, but like a younger brother to Caeser; his mother is Caesar’s long time mistress;

Julius Caesar: the Ides of March are coming; he is entertaining Cleopatra and his first infant son; he holds Sirvilia in high regard, but Cleo has his heart right now;

Servilia: in her 50’s; holds a high position as Caesar’s long’time mistress; she also leads a group of influential women, who worship the goddess Diana, and they have a magical, triangular, bronze piece – and they gather once a month at the temple, in a locked room to share the power of the piece; they have learned it brings peace, and can heal;

Summary:
Delia and Jake are paired to go into the past to locate and bring back the piece… 2 years earlier they were lovers when assigned to Afghanistan together… but though the sex was great, he was emotionally distant, and she walked away… the attraction is there, but Delia is committed to keeping things professional – but Jake is pushing the buttons… and trying to open up.

As a first book, it’s setting up the universe… but… too many inconsistencies… it takes Athena a process to send them back in time, but she can pull them forward in the blink of an eye (when their armband stone is pushed) ??? she’s just sitting in her chair for days at a time waiting??? The Plebeians have planted these pieces through time – figuring that they will find them when they have matured, and they can show compassion and peacefulness… but the time is today – no peace in our world??? And Jake was insensitive and closed… but Delia isn’t very open to him in return??? When they jump time, they magically have the clothes, money, horses, languages they need… how? And w don’t they know more before they leave.

But, if you let those things go, the story is interesting… to go back into the politics of Rome… of women trying to find their power (not nice of our two to steal it – where is the compassion there?)… of Caesar and Cleo and Brutus… and personally Jake and Delia reconnect personally – and work well in blocking Torbar, though their limited interactions leave them with more questions than answers; when Sirvilia brings the piece to the house to heal a gash on Delia’s thigh (obtained when fighting assassins out for Caesar during a party at Sirvilia’s home), Delia’s mind is taken to Pleibia where the priestess explains about the 12 pieces…

They break in to take the piece, they are chased by guards and Torbar… Torbar is mentally blocking their ability to ‘phone home’ with the bracelets… they distract him by throwing his navigation crown into the river (which they took from him, when he tried to mind blast them, but she put up a mental block, and it bounced back at him, knocking him out)…and with an arrow in his shoulder, she is trying to keep him afloat as they escape – and he just manages to push the stone in their recall bracelets…
And she realizes how much she means to him, and is at his side until he wakes up… and all is well…
And Carswell has deciphered the location of the next piece… and …

Hmm... the overall plot was an interesting blend of speculative and historical fiction, but it seemed choppy or inconsistent. I read this very quickly, so it's entirely possible I might have missed a tidbit or two - for example, Delia and Jake suddenly knew where Tullia's house was located.

It was also difficult to connect with Delia and Jake; they reunite after a two-year break from a previous two-year relationship in Afghanistan. They had history and accompanying baggage, but their reconnection also seemed superficial.

Delia didn't seem as smart as I think she should've been. Why didn't she use the relic immediately to heal Jake? Why did she always use Jake's real name while they were undercover instead of his undercover name? (It's true that most of their conversation was in private, but still.)

The historical aspect of this book is lovely. The hero and heroine travel back to ancient Rome shortly before the assassination of Julius Caesar. The central historical personage is Caesar's mistress, Servilia. Her name, which is related to the word "servile", is highly ironic. She's a very strong woman with admirable goals.

The alien aspect didn't seem especially interesting at the outset. I thought it was a cross between Babylon 5 and Dune. Then I noticed a connection to Greek mythology that I found intriguing. I hope that's developed later in the series.

I like time travel romance. While the time travel was interesting, I was really intrigued by the suggested alien involvement in earths developement.
