The art of calligraphy originated in Ancient Greece---the word comes from the Greek for beautiful writing---but it is now found throughout the world. The techniques, tools, materials and some of the letter forms are much the same as they were in the Middle Ages, but calligraphy still has a part to play in the modern world---as a form of artistic expression as well as a means of communication. The Complete Calligrapher is the essential source of inspiration and information for calligraphers at all levels. It takes you through the initial stages of selecting a pen and putting pen to paper for the first time, right up to designing and laying out your own work and presenting it as a bound book. Step-by-step mini projects illustrate all the techniques, and over 50 beautiful alphabets will inspire you to experiment and to explore a variety of letterforms. Both practical and beautiful, The Complete Calligrapher is the ultimate guide for beginners, students and professional alike.

This book has been incredible for my growth in calligraphy. Im afraid I feel i will outgrow it this year, but i have referred many people to it saying that if i was to teach, this book would be a required read. Very informative with details of history of the alphabets.
