Four times a bridesmaid, Fredricka Lambert still had no prospects of getting married herself. Now her family was convinced that she was going to be an old maid. To stop their wagging tongues, she accepted lifelong friend Colin Kilgallon's offer to escort her to local social events. Ranch-tough Colin made every woman in the county swoon ...and suddenly Fredricka wasn't feeling too steady herself. He was just too powerful to resist!
Colin had loved Fredricka since the first grade, but she'd always treated him like a trusted companion rather than a potential suitor. Now he had his chance to show her the depth of his lifelong ardor, and he wasn't about to blow it!
Lass Small (September 15, 1923-January 26, 2011) was an American writer of over 60 romance novels from 1983 to 2000. She also signed her novelas as Cally Hughes and Callie Hugher.
This was a very average read and so old fashioned. We have a 33 year old heroine who does nothing and lets her parents send her around to friend's. She is also so pathetic that she has been hoping for a proposal from a guy for years, a guy whose kisses are insipid and who she hasn't even been dating. I mean WTF? Then, the hero for the first half is called pig. Say what? He of course has always loved her. I have read one more book by this author and I think all of them are a bit bizarre.
I like the characters well enough but it’s hard to believe that if he has loved her since the third grade that he would wait until she’s 33 to make a move. And she came across as seriously passive and clueless until the middle of the story. Just not very believable.
An oldie but a goodie. I love going back and re reading this book. It’s set in simpler times and appears quite innocent by today’s standards. This is just a feel good read.
