This Second Edition is a practical introduction to the application of the Gestalt approach at each stage of the therapeutic process. Taking the reader through these stages, the book focuses on skills which arise out of Gestalt theory as well as those invoked by the therapeutic relationship. As well as offering guidance on practice issues affecting counselors such as assessment and treatment considerations, using a variety of Gestalt techniques, and developing client awareness, this fully updated edition has been expanded to represent recent developments in the psychotherapy field.
Very useful book for beginners counselors and psychotherapists. Simply written and easy to follow. Contains useful guidelines for different counseling situations. This book clearly presents Gestalt approach in psychotherapy: importance of awareness and co-created relationship (I-It vs. I-Thou). I enjoyed that it contains some interesting exercises to practice. 10/10
I just read the 4th Edition and found it really useful. I read it in a therapist book study group so that allowed us to also put into practice (in a Gestalt way) what the authors wrote about. For any Gestalt therapists or wannabees, it's a must read.
This is a great, in-depth guide into practical questions of Gestalt psychotherapy and counselling. Rich in topics and references for further reading, this book might serve as a day to day guide for every student and/or practitioner of Gestalt psychotherapy. I would highly recommend this read for everyone who is studying, practising or thinking about studying Gestalt psychotherapy. This book, in fact, was in the list of mandatory literature for my Gestalt studies.
