"It is more than probable that I am not understood; but I fear, indeed, that it is in no manner possible to convey to the mind of the merely general reader, an adequate idea of that nervous intensity of interest with which, in my case, the powers of meditation (not to speak technically) busied and buried themselves, in the contemplation of even the most ordinary objects of the universe." - Edagr A. Poe

I live with my two cats and Husband of three years. I love to travel, ride horses, write, read, draw, drink wine, cook, each chocolate, and design. Never figured I'd become a writer but did, and no matter the day it's always good because of it. My somewhat unhealthy facination with the idea that we all die adds an oddly sweet twist to my love stories. Ever since I was old enough to understand this, I haven't been able to stop thinking of it, and what happens after. To me, I don't want to lose the love I've built in this life... Writing books ensure that this will never happen.

And my thoughts on this books can be summed as such:

"Why do you hate us so much?" Elle hissed at the [spoiler].

And, lo, Amanda respond, "Because you haven't had one redeeming character action in 600 pages?"

Where do I start? The second book in the series had the same problems as the first, but it was even worse. We left off with the love interest seemingly dead, and of course, the entire first half of this book involves the protagonist mourning her lost love: a love so pure and perfect that no one else could ever relate, which is reiterated CONSTANTLY. If you have read the Twilight series, specifically New Moon, in which Bella whines and mopes for half the book after Edward leaves, it's pretty much exactly like that.

For a character who is supposed to embody purity and intelligence, Estella is rather catty and dimwitted. Now that she has her soul back, she is actually pretty mean to people who try to be nice to her and help her. She whines about not being able to see her friends Scott and Sarah, but when she gets to see them, she talks about how pathetic THEY are. How is she supposed to be good, again?

Then there is the white cat from the last book: a pure white cat with white eyes. I knew immediately who it was. It was so obvious, but apparently not to Elle. It takes her a good portion of the book to realize who the cat really is.

I was almost excited when the actual plot kicked in. A journey to see the gods sounded perfect after the blandness of the rest of the novel. Unfortunately, I was in for disappointment. Margriete tells Sam and Estella to be prepared, that on their journey they would be confronted with their worst fears and nightmares. It sounded interesting, but nothing really happened at all. There was very little danger, and what little there was was over within a page.

The worst part of the book, however, takes place when the group decides to take a rest while in the angel retirement village (which, I admit, is an interesting concept, as is everything involving the angels, in fact). There, they meet...Edgar Allan Poe. Yes, THE Edgar Allan Poe. And he is nothing like the real man who died in 1849. And of course, if you read Feather, you know that his great inspiration for "The Raven" was Edgar and Ella's great romance. I was literally rolling my eyes at this point, wondering why I decided to read this. Still, I continued.

As it turns out, Poe, or "Edgar Allan," as Ella calls him, since of course HER Edgar is also named "Edgar Poe," is actually a retired guardian angel, who died "saving" Edgar's life. As Poe himself says, "That is why, in the human world, my death is still a mystery." This is the worst example of character assassination I have ever read, and it's worse that it's an assassination of a real person who actually lived. His character is nothing like what is known about the actual man at all.

The story drags more after this, with the group having to dodge a storm and ride some pegasuses (which could have been interesting, but really wasn't), until they eventually reach the gods. Ella does some bargaining and leaves empty-handed, with only the promise that her precious Edgar will return to her.

Which he does, at the end of the book, during Scott and Sarah's wedding, because, of course, Ella's "friends" can't possibly have one moment in the spotlight.

I feel that I must also mention the eerie similarities between this series and Twilight. The most obvious are the characters' names. Edgar/Edward and Estella (Ella)/Isabella (Bella). Both series also have an annoying lack of payoff at their climaxes, where action is promised but there is no delivery. The romances is both series are based on nothing but pure physical attraction, and if there is more there, we are not shown what it is. We only have the respective protagonists' assertions that, yes, their love is the greatest, most wonderful loves that ever did exist. In addition, the female protagonists are supposed to be highly intelligent and often lack any sense at all. If this series is not intended to be influenced by Twilight, I will be surprised. I would be delighted if someone would tell me that this series is a joke, a parody, because right now, I would have to say that this is the worst series I have ever read. And yes, that includes Twilight, which this series is clearly ripping off.

A departure from the first book, Elle is on her own in this one. Along with her Guardian Angel Sam, Elle is on a quest to save her soul mate from the Gods... in the center of the earth.

I liked the story in this one because Elle starts to grow into her own skin. She begins to show some backbone and not act like the helpless girl that she was in the first book. The book was more about friendship... with Sam, with her human friends and with her best friend who she thought was lost to her forever. Her character did this total 180. Where before, she thought all she needed was Edgar and his love to survive. Now she sees that her friends are important. I'm kind of glad she did. It irritated me how superior she thought herself in comparison to Sarah and Scott (her human friends).

Made me eager to find out when Edgar and Elle would be reunited.

Guardian was a slow book, nothing really happened, it was all just a journey to find Edgar but nothing amazing or exciting happened. It was a little different reading that heaven was found in the middle of earth, under the ground. Everyone has always believed that heaven was way up high beyond the stars, so that was a new take on heaven, and hey maybe that possible, no one has ever been to the center of the planet, I hear its way to hot lol anyway I liked the ending, it was cute, Scott and Sarah and Sam and Margriete , and the best part is that Edgar :)

Oh wow I am trying to be nice I really am. This one was worse than the first which has me kind of freaked about reading the 3rd..should I or shouldn't I? Anyways, I guess I am really picky with the writing in books. I like beautiful, flowing, full of details and descriptions, writing, and this book is not my cup of tea I tell ya. Anyways, sorry for the crappy review, but I am suffering from an intense head ache currently, the result of my banging my head on my desk after every single sentence practically. And yes, the entire book was pretty much written much like this review...again sorry. :/

Read way back in 2011, and rereading now (2015) for reasons explained in my review for book 1: link

Verdict: bad.

I couldn't get past 12 pages in. The author had no sense of direction and the scenes lacked a purpose, goal, and resolution. The writing was unfocused and poor. The characters were bland and the dialogue boring.

I don't recommend this to anyone. This writing is the level of that of a beginner (fanfiction level).

I really dread reading book 3's beginning... Why oh why do I put myself through this?

I didn't like this book as much as the first in the series. I think I would even like book 3 better. I will most likely still read the the third book in this series just so I can see how everything ends but I don't think I will read it for a while. I was a little disappointed.
