Spock vs. Q #1-2

Star Trek: The Spock vs. Q Collection (Gift Set)

Rate this book
An exciting and at times hilarious confrontation between chaos and logic.

As the end of the twentieth century nears, an asteroid is hurtling toward Earth. When it hits, the impact will result in the end of all life on the planet.

Ambassador Spock travels back in time to subtly warn Earth's inhabitants of impending doom while calling into question humanity's priorities. However, before the truth is told, the all powerful being Q appears and reminds Spock that he is prohibited from interfering in Earth's history. Besides, Q doesn't see mankind as something worth saving.

This initial encounter between the two legendary characters explodes into a battle of wits as Spock cleverly befuddles Q with his own words. As barbs are exchanged, and humanity's laws and wonders are laid bare, Spock's logic just may convince Q that humans are indeed a species worthy of salvation, but will he be too late?

In Spock vs. Q, Leonard Nimoy and John de Lancie again bring their characters to glorious life in the most lively and entertaining debate since Nixon vs. Kennedy. Recorded in front of a live audience, Spock vs. Q is a stirring audio program that could only come from Alien Voices.

The Sequel:

The battle of wits and logic is joined again.

Following their debate over the fate of mankind, Spock and Q continue their discussions over a meal. After dining, the two return to the stage to recount their repast, which included encounters with several of Spock's former shipmates.

However, at the moment the two verbal sparring partners shake hands, a power surge places them in total darkness. Suddenly, Spock and Q are no longer on stage, but somewhere in deep space.

As they struggle to determine what has happened, a curious personality change takes hold. Spock is overcome with giddy delight. Q is much more serious, even... logical.

Masterfully performed by Leonard Nimoy and John de Lancie, Star Trek® Spock vs. Q: The Sequel is a fascinating and often hilarious role reversal that reveals previously unknown sides of Spock and Q. It is a program so original it could only come from Alien Voices®.

I originally listened to these on audio tape in the early 2000s. Was given this gift set a few years ago and ripped them to my phone to listen to for the first time in years.

These are good. The main draw here is to hear Leonard Nimoy and John De Lancie play off each other in a live setting as their Star Trek characters. It's fun. There's some good banter...and there's also some not good banter. I like the live audience, but they sometimes are a little too enthusiastic in laughing at things that aren't THAT funny.

I guess the basic plot is as good as it could be in the short time they had for each performance. The second one in particular had an interesting opportunity to let Spock play Q and Q play Spock in a mind swap situation, but they pulled back a little and each character only took on aspects of each other's personality. Which I guess is a microcosm of this project. Good ideas not fully committed to. The performance Nimoy gives in the second one tells me he could have pulled it off.

These are good. Not great. But it's awesome to hear these two guys go at it for an hour or so and just hear them do what they do best.

Legendary characters Spock and Q face off in these two audio adventures filmed in front of a live studio audience. After initially being surprised at the presence of the audience (I wrongly assumed this would be more of a straight audio drama) I soon got into the swing of things and really enjoyed the first performance.
The second switches the roles somewhat and gives Leonard Nimoy a more fun script to play with but I didn't enjoy this as much.
The enhanced video CD contains 5 minutes of video from the performance of the first story which is great to watch (a shame it's no longer!).

Im not usually a fan of superhero comics, but out of all of them, Batman and the X-men are the ones I enjoy the most. I dont remember if I read any Batman when I first started reading comics awhile ago but have decided to start up again with this series. I love the idea of a Rich billionaire being a superhero and helping the poor and downtrodden. I just wish real life were like that.

Love the dark art, love the story. Of course I always love Batmans technology. Supercool. The story is fantastic and the entire volume was a page turner.

One criticism, is that there is this one character, Lincoln who is running for Mayor, he looks almost identical to Bruce Wayne. They have the same boxy face. I hate it when artists do that because I get confused if people look to similar. Another thing I do not like is a bit subjective. Im reading this on my kindle fire. And about half way through the book, the formatting switches to horizontal, not portrait layout. Its just a bit difficult to navigate the panels this way.

Quotes: Nice one Harper, Epic Bat-Fail

Overall, I love, love, love this and recommend it to anyone who reads graphic novels/comics.

This is quite a funny little play to listen to. Spock and Q travel back to the 20th century to warn us of an impending asteroid hit, that just might destroy our world. But while one wants to save, the other is content to watch. Who will win the battle of wit and words, and will we be saved?

Although it's getting tougher to find a cassette player to play this on these days, it is well worth the effort. You can imagine the characters arguing out our fate as if they were truly there in front of you.

So this is not a book or audio book. It's more like the audio recording of a theater performance. It is pretty funny and has the real actors that play Spock and Q. There are lots of references to their personalities and characters from the Star Trek shows. Die-hard fans will enjoy this. Other than the funny repartee, there is really no story or new content that is exciting here. Worth it if you have a long car drive and nothing to do.

Fun, but didn't really seem like a "Spock vs Q" thing. Entertaining, though. Also? NOT an audiobook. It's more of a radio show.

This book is cheating as far as the reading goes. You cannot read it. It is an audio book. I loved it though and highly recommend it to Star Trek fans everywhere.

These were interesting. I loved the idea of Spock and Q together, but it came off kind of odd, and the whole thing was really political.
