I tried
The themes in this book are so heavy-handed. Addy was insufferable. She must have called Dimitri "daddy" a thousand times. The rich white man saves the broke black woman from the horrible black men from her past is the entire theme of this series. There's no sophistication here. Everything is forced. This book is weirdly preachy, too. I know these books are supposed to be fun, escapism for black women, especially & I think that's great. However, everything is so over the top that it's not remotely believable. Ayanna, Lauren, Ash, Yara & Nyah ALL ACT & TALK THE SAME! Why is that? It's the same sassy black girl hero worshipping a man while talking about their vaginas ENDLESSLY. The idea that only one kind of black woman exists is so reductive & boring. That wedding with Ayanna's family took cringe to a new level. There are some cute moments here, but the author's obsession with this black Cinderella ( hood edition) trope really takes the air out of this entire series. All these women are interchangeable. I mean, we had Steve, his wife, Ayanna & and Dimitri, all talking about ayanna's magic P***y. It was so ridiculous that it felt like parody.
