Telos: The Hope of Heaven Today

Rate this book
A better definition of God's kingdom changes everything about how we live today - no matter what the future holds.

Welcome to a better way of looking at the as the culmination of God's grand story. Jesus' most important word in describing the end is the Greek word telos. Telos is the rhythm of human history; the presence of God; and the plot, purpose, and completion of the story. The end is the kingdom of God, and the kingdom is here and now.

Sweet and Wilson show how many of the political problems plaguing modern Christianity are rooted in bad theology. God's kingdom is the present reality of the presence of God that gives us hope for today and tomorrow.

Outside of time…

This was such a rich read. In a Christian world obsessed with end times, it was refreshing to be led on a journey outside of time. Our invitation is into the story God has already written and finding our place in it now. The end of our timeline will come, but it is also already here as everything is finished. One of my favorite quotes of Dr. Len Sweet is when he says He is risen and rising. In the every day faith journey, we find fulfillment that transcends heaven and earth, now and later, and temporal and eternal. I’m so much more aware of the ands of Jesus and challenged to rest in His centrality after reading this book.

Excellent resource! I have for a long time felt that our fascination with escargot eschatology has been misplaced. This book reframes the discussion away from an endpoint in time and forward an End as in purpose. It reorients our thinking away from future events toward a present reality: Jesus. "What is the chief end of man? To glorify God and enjoy Him forever." Highly recommended!
