Yuu Watase (渡瀬悠宇) is a Japanese shoujo manga-ka. She is known for her works Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, Ceres: The Celestial Legend, Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend. She likes all music, except heavy metal and old traditional music.

She received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo for Ceres, Celestial Legend in 1997. Since writing her debut short story "Pajama de Ojama" ("An Intrusion in Pajamas"), Watase has created more than 80 compiled volumes of short stories and continuing series. Because of her frequent use of beautiful male characters in her works, she is widely regarded in circles[which?] as a bishōnen manga artist.[citation needed] In October 2008, Watase began her first shōnen serialization, Arata: The Legend in Weekly Shōnen Sunday.
Her name is romanized as "Yû Watase" in earlier printings of Viz Media's publications of Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, and Ceres, The Celestial Legend, while in Viz Media's Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend her name is romanized as "Yuu Watase". In Chuang Yi's English-language versions of Fushigi Yugi (spelled without a macron or circumflex), her name is romanized as "Yu Watase".

This was one of the most difficult volumes to read because so much occurs in this that makes me sad/mad, but it also has some of my favorite moments in the series.

This saga is so dramatic at times I'm like stressed out, truly. I'm really loving it overall though but in staying true to fashion my library is out of volumes so this journey will be on pause until I can start buying the books...sigh...

Wow! I mean, first of all, why is their virginity such a repeated topic? Yikes.

But beyond that- I love how we meet some Byakko warriors and learn more of the origins. And let's talk about those wishes! Wowwwww!!!! I do not remember those wishes being made. I should probably watch the show again, like I did with Fruits Basket.

This story is interesting!!! I can’t put it down!

I’m so sick of Yui. I can’t believe that anyone would go out of their way for revenge on a friend... I’m just glad that it seems to backfire on her though...

I’m rooting for Miaka and Tamahome but something is always in the way!!!!!

Some pretty awesome things here, as the climax of Part I approaches, but Miaka and Tamahome break up and get back together SO many times in this section, and the beginning is absolutely unbearable with every single enemy trying to rape Miaka to prevent her from summoning Suzaku. And I guess we're just dropping the hot potato that is that panel of the twins as quickly as it came up? Moreover, it tries to maintain a comedic beat even though things have never been so serious, and that doesn't work. It's just whip-lashy.

I have shed some teardrops... It was worth reading this 😭❤️📖... It is the action scenes that keeps me going to read the next chapter... And we are almost at the end of Part 1 / Act 1 of Fushigi Yûgu. It also makes me want to read "The Legend of Byakko" and "The Legend of Genbu" manga series. I would like to know what happened to those characters 😭. Yû Watase is awesome in her character creation & plot developments.

The Celestial Warriors body count is rising on both sides while the story is spiraling to a fever pitch of WAR!! so much bloody fighting (not all that well drawn, sorry Watase just doesn't do fights well)

Seriously tho, if you're still reading the series there's nothing I can possibly say to change your already established opinions
So I'm gonna continue to pick on editorial choices instead! The inclusion of Suzaku color spread in the bonus pages is baffling because a) Suzaku-god has not yet been summoned so his face is a spoiler in itself, b) mirrored layout Seiryuu illustration falls better in this volume's content, why didn't anyone use that??! b.2) yes I know there's a matching Seiryuu illustration! I have an entire freakin artbook of this stuff shutup...

And yes, more endless pages of not Translator Notes, but instead Sound FXs notes. Because reasons?
At least unlike Tokyopop's mess (who originally started this trend), whoever was in charge here bothered to clearly label Chapter Names & Numbers so one can find correct gibberish easily if one felt like it

The story progresses faster with Miaka nailing down the identities of 2 of the last 3 Suzaku warriors. what I didn't enjoy was the pointless naivety displayed by the lovelorn couple in the face of the challenges posed by the Seiryuu team.

I watched and loved the Anime version of this since I was a kid. It also landed on my favorites.

For now, I got no plans for buying a copy.
