This is a must read book for all of the guys out there. It maps out the important things that you, as a man, should and need to know for living a truly fulfilling life. And yes, there is an equivalent book out there for you ladies.
This is the second time reading this book. Both times in a men's group. I love the way Eldredge writes. I also love how i can relate his writings to my life. Like Scripture, I learn something new each time.
Wild at Heart by John Eldridge is an outstanding book that illustrates the meaning of manhood, encourages men who feel less than, and also guides them to be sure to know who they are and to resolve some of their inner conflicts before going to the woman, and not to take their problems to the woman. I feel that women can help us with some of our problems, but agree with Eldridge that we need to handle some things elsewhere, and that most issues should not be brought to the woman.
I would recommend this for men. For women, I'm not too sure. The overall message is good, inspiring and often comforting. However, their use of Scripture is slightly eisegetical. They often use Scripture to improve their message on "the heart" out of context. They focus too much on the ingrained use "the heart" and forget that the heart is sinful (which they do not address rightly). But be careful on how you apply the Scriptures in the way they apply it. Still, this book will not misguide the believer. If you are wanting to understand yourself and or your wife, this book will help a lot.
This is one of the most important books I have read in my whole life! Everybody should read it, Christian or not. It has revealed to me so many amazing insights into myself and my whole life. It has re-valued my priorities and fundamentally changed how I approach my relationships and my daily responsibilities. I will definitely recreate this book many times over, to gain more depth and more benefits!
Found both to be very helpful in their own right, if not a naturally heavy US biased and look on life that doesn’t actually happen as much (the life described) outside that single country. It’s understandable, however.
This is a “should read” for every man, to take it as a Man-to-Man, to recognize (or admit) and heal the wound, and maximize our potential and not get distracted by fake imitations to a fulfilling life that serves joyfully.
Amazing, amazing book. I found God speaking to me with utmost clarity through the pages more and more as I read. The Eldredges did a fantastic job of not just enlightening readers on God's intention for man and women, but also in giving them a wake up call regarding God's unique calling for them in life which only they can fulfill. The book concludes nicely with an invitation to readers to respond to that calling and to embrace their masculinity/feminity. 5/5. I'd highly recommend this as an evening read, even more so to those interested in the topic of masculinity and feminity.
While some of the Mr. & Mrs. Elderedge's points were insightful, it bothers me that some were quite unsound, unbiblical even as it resembles Freudian/neopsychoanalytic shools of thought. I concur with the points made by Byron Borger found in his critique >> http://www.heartsandmindsbooks.com/re...
This is one of the most convicting books I have read in a very long time. It actually helped me decide on my summer plans. I loved this book and I recommend every man read this.
