Actress Domino West’s life is picture perfect. Until it isn’t. Dumped by text—during one of the most important meetings of her career—she volunteers to self-exile on a tiny, rain-soaked island in the middle of nowhere. Her mission? Find the perfect location to shoot her next movie—and escape the relentless gaze of the paparazzi.
Forest Russo is determined to fix up the Driftwood Inn, and he’s hell-bent on doing it on his own. But with tourist season only months away, he and his sister, Fern, are up against the clock—and the wet, gray winter in the Pacific Northwest. When Domino checks in, Fern sees an opportunity to make a splash, and Forest’s plans are irritatingly, frustratingly, cast aside.
Forest is as gruff as Domino is sweet, and he’s less than thrilled about yielding to the whims of a Hollywood stranger. It’s soon clear, though, they’re not as polar opposite as they seem, and the attraction sizzling between them becomes impossible to ignore. Sparks fly, passions flare, and Domino begins to realize this charming little island—and its inhabitants—are imprinted on her soul.
The Farthest Star is a sweet, steamy romance for anyone who wonders what happens when you follow your heart.

Okay first of all I love the PNW, the Pacific coast has a huge part of my heart. But this book wasn't it. The characters names, though unique, were so annoying and I really hated it. Also the timeline of the book was unrealistic to the point where I couldn't even say "oh it's fiction of course it's unrealistic". The end was rushed, and felt cut off to make it a story that was able to have a sequel.
The setting was well written and some characters are lovable, but I didn't enjoy anything about the relationship between these two. It felt rushed. There wasn't enough banter for me to be invested (especially important since everyone is adamant about him being a grump even though we don't see much of it throughout).
3,5 stars. It was ok. Felt like skimming through a lot. The story was fine, but it was underdeveloped. what was it? 2 weeks, 2 dates and Domino knew he was the "love of her life" I'm not into the insta-love storyline that much, it kinda threw me off a little.

Happy release day to The Farthest Star by Sally Glover!
This book has it all; written by a Canadian author, beautiful scenery in the PNW and an opposites attract love story. Filled with small-town charm and steamy romance, you'll be falling head over heels for this first book in The Wildflower series.
Thank you @sallygloverwrites for allowing me to read your beautiful work and sharing it with others!
This was a cozy winter romance story with the best setting! The author totally nailed the vibe of the scenery, businesses, culture, and people of the Pacific Northwest. 🌊
It was OK. The end was rushed and celebrating getting together with champagne etc when you have only known someone 2 weeks was a little over the top. It was like they were getting married.

The writing is well-done, particularly for a book that was free on kindle from an unknown author. But the chemistry between the two main characters just isn’t there. The ending also felt rushed.
Okay, I originally added this to my TBR because I saw a critique that it was too spicy so OF COURSE I had to read it - you know, for science. What I discovered is the most romantically written love scenes where not only did our grump show up, but our sunshine absolutely had no problems taking what she wants and I am HERE FOR IT, BABY.
Domino is someone who reminded me of a Katie Holmes-type actress; shy smiles, genuinely grateful for fans and part of a dynamic Hollywood duo who is happy to take the side-seat to their shooting star partner as it relates to the public eye (not that I know any of this about KH, but she SEEMS like she's this way lol).
Forest was not quite as memorable to me as far as MMCs goes when it comes to his personality - you get his perspective and I completely appreciated his logic as he worked out the pros and cons of pursuing any type of relationship (with anyone, really) but I felt like we could have had more insight on his background to help get the full grump-package.
There's humor and excellent rapport between all the characters; this story has a supporting cast that you're going to find yourself wondering if they'll be involved in the next story or play more prominent roles down the road. I appreciated that there is nothing deeply-traumatizing or a backstory that’s savagely heartbreaking to lead us through the plot.. its really pleasant sometimes to read a story that doesn't need tragedy to send the characters to the finish line. This story really did feel like a pleasant stroll along a quietly babbling stream - you can relax while you read and there’s no need to perch anxiously on the edge of your seat waiting for a shoe to drop.
If you like: - keeping up with Hollywood couples and wonder about the validity to so many claims about their relationship scandals that are published in media - watching a character soften and grow thanks to their proximity to a new person - happy-ever-afters that do not involve third-act breakups..
Lot of new books today! Besides, this was an absolute newby I believe author's first book and I wish her lot of ton more.
Okay, so let's go to start talking about the book: In my opinion, liked the writing, and the setting: A SMALL TOWN in an island. The story talk about Domino (cute name btw) an actress traveling to an island because she's producing a new movie and is searching for the best place to take in. As I said, I like small towns a lot, probably 80% of my favourite books are set in small places lol, so this was intriguin to me. On the other side we have Forest, a man born on that island running an hotel with his sister Fern. He is portrayed as grumpy, but I really think he is really calm and no interested in other people business at all. At first It gave me ''it happened on summer'' vibes, but the more it advances you can see it is focused in Domino and her adventure exploring the new place.
SO About Foster and Domino, I expected a little more, the type of scenes where you can feel the connection and chemistry pulsing. Instead I found more chemistry between Domino and Fern or Domino and Poppy, hahah crazy right?? I'm thankful because there is no lot of drama or innecesary cliffhanger (little of push and pull), just focusing, creating, sailing and resting.
Overall,I felt this book as a movie you watch curled up in a winter sunday afternoon... a movie where our heroine is exploring new ways to live while enjoying the trip. With amazing landscapes and full of nature around. I'm expecting more books about this small town, I think if this book is an introduction then I will consider it a good introduction because I believe there are lot of more interesting characters to explore out there. Good luck!
This book has everything from the perils of Hollywood glamour, to forging new beginnings, taking a second chance at love and communities that genuinely liked and cared about each other. I would like to live in Orca Island it sounds beautiful.
The Driftwood Inn is somewhere I would love to own and run and I love that Fern and Forest are doing it own their own not troubling their parents with questions and dilemmas.
This book is filled with loveable interesting characters that make you want to read on and discover more about their lives. Domino and Forest are incredible characters and I loved the dual POV in the book as well.
Favourite quotes: “Funny how people become three-dimensional when you let them. Life is all about perspective.”
“Be firm in your personal boundaries. Stay true to your feelings. Don’t allow others to steer you off course.”
This book is a love letter to the PNW in the winter, and it made me very seriously start researching flights and planning a visit. The way the author describes the landscape really ignited my imagination and I felt like I was watching a movie.
This book is insta-love, grump meets sunshine, and a small-town romance.
I didn’t realize how much I actually enjoyed an insta-love story, but this one is done so well. The characters are very real and I felt like they were made for each other.
I read this book while on vacation on Vancouver Island, which was fun because the story takes place on an island in the Pacific Northwest. (I even read it on the ferry to Port Angeles, Washington on a daytrip). I enjoyed the slow burn between Forest and Domino, of course, there are obstacles that they must overcome, the weather of the Pacific Northwest being one of them. The characters were iikeable and the main characters took turns telling the story from each of their points of view, which was effective.
Expected so much more from this. The concept sounded interesting, but I found myself skipping pages after the first chapters because it dragged on. Lots of potential with the characters, but it fell flat most of the time. There was barely any romance but mainly lust, and a lot of focus on Domino’s movie and the hotel. They fell in love too quickly, it’s hard to believe they truly loved each other after such a short period of time. The book also ended abruptly and felt incomplete which was disappointing.
The Grump meets Sunshine trope is my fave 😜 that’s exactly what you get with Forest and Domino. Set in the gloomy but charming PNW. Yes please! I’m traveling to the area in the coming week, so wanted a read with that setting. This did not disappoint!
LA actress Domino is working on a new movie when she’s dumped by text. Desperate to get away, she decides to scout her next movie’s potential setting - a small, rainy island town in Washington.
Forest doesn’t show emotion and keeps his heart locked up tight. He & his sister, Fern, run the inn in the town that is in need of a little TLC.
*Alexa, play Invisible String by Taylor Swift*
The whole island is a close knit group of people who love each other and take care of their own. They welcomed Domino with open arms, too.
Such a cute, easy read. I enjoyed it! This is one I chose on Stuff Your Kindle Day, and I’m proud I did.
I really enjoyed this book! After coming across it on Instagram, I was excited to read it - it didn’t disappoint! Love the grumpy/sunshine romance, how Sally described the landscape and Orcas Island, and how the book opened up the lives of those surrounding the two main characters. I’m looking forward to reading the second book in the series. Easy read that I genuinely looked forward to picking up!
"I recognized if I fell into this woman's bed, I might fall in love forever." When Forest, the hunky hotel co-owner on an island in the pacific northwest, meets Domino, the beautiful Hollywood actress visiting the island to scout out the perfect location for her next movie, meet passion ignites in both of them neither wants nor expects. This is a cute, fun love story you won't want to put down. Perfect to cheer you up on a rainy day... or any day for that matter.
I downloaded this free book and I’m so glad I did because I’m going to buy all of Glover’s books. This one was cute, funny and steamy. The heroine is Canadian actress and the grumpy hero, is American. He and his sister own a small hotel. All the characters were great, especially Fern, the hero’s sister. I laughed a few times by her quirkiness. I loved that I was familiar with all the U.S references, it made it an enjoyable read.
This just didn't work for me, and definitely not as a romance. There was zero chemistry or depth between Domino and Forest. Lust, maybe, but no romance. The relationship made no sense. There was much more relationship building in the friendship between Domino and Poppy than between the love interests. The real love interest seemed to be the setting of the PNW, which was well-written with obvious care. But the rest of the story fell very flat.
Fun and hip read that was like watching a romantic Hollywood movie. I loved the West Coast setting and small island feel; it was as if the location had its own story. The tension and passion between Domino and Forest keep the pages turning and leaving you wanting more. Can't wait to read the next book!
Thank you for the ARC! This is a sunshine and grumpy that I just couldn’t put down! I adored Forest and Domino’s individuality and the complexity of their characters. I also loved the blossoming of their romance. The setting and supporting characters were lovely and made me yearn for a trip to the Orca Islands. Overall a quick beautiful easy romance. I can’t recommend enough!
This was well written, but unnecessarily long. The romance felt rushed and poorly developed, and I never found myself that invested in the main relationship. I pushed through because the film and hotel plot was somewhat interesting at times, but overall the ending was rushed in comparison to the middle which seemed to drag.
The names in this book were so crazy they were distracting. I also didn’t see the grumpiness of the make lead that was constantly said to exist. Also, they barely talked at all and fell in love?? I can suspend belief for books but I didn’t see anything between the characters worth making me suspend belief to get into this story.
I was cozy inside during a snowstorm. This was a Great book to read while watching the snow fall outside the window. This book was well written and the characters are Great!! I am looking forward to reading the next book!!
Small town? ✔️ Steamy? ✔️ Great chemistry? ✔️ Beatiful imagery? ✔️
The story was wonderful. I loved both characters--and their names! This book has offered me a perfect escape, and I absolutely enjoyed getting lost in it. Definitely recommend!
4.5⭐️ I love a good small town story, especially when all the characters in the small town have such wonderful character developments. The storyline seemed a little predictable/unrealistic to me so that’s why I took off half a star but other than that I enjoyed this read.
