Δεν μπορώ να πω ότι με ενθουσίασε ιδιαίτερα αυτή η ιστορία.Οι χαρακτήρες μου φαίνονταν πολύ ανώριμοι σε μερικά σημεία και με υπερβολικά ψυχολογικά προβλήματα σε άλλα.

Η ερωτική(?) ιστορία του Τσέις και της Κασσάνδρας μου φάνηκε πως βγήκε από το πουθενά και ότι προχώρησε με ιλιγγιώδη ταχύτητα.Δεν κατάλαβα πως ερωτεύτηκαν τόσο σφόδρα και αμετάκλητα μέσα σε 2 μήνες υποτίθεται,που είχαν συμπιεστεί μέσα σε μικρό αριθμό σελίδων και που δεν μου έδωσε την ευκαιρία να ενδιαφερθώ και γω για τον έρωτά τους.Ο Τσέις μου φάνηκε να έχει την προσωπικότητα από ξύλο εκτός από κάτι περιστασιακές αναλαμπές συναισθήματος όσον αφορούσε την Κασσάνδρα,που και αυτή με τη σειρά της μου έδινε την εντύπωση του θύματος μέχρι και λίγο πριν το τέλος.Η απόρριψη που γνώρισε από την παιδική ηλικία για μια ουλή στο πρόσωπο την οδήγησε σε έλλειψη αυτοεκτίμησης,κάτι που ήταν κουραστικό να διαβάζω ξανά και ξανά,ειδικά αφού και δεν φαινόταν να στέκεται στα πόδια της,παρά να χρειάζεται τον Τσέις για αυτοεπιβεβαίωση.Και υποτίθεται αυτή τώρα είχε κάνει επιτυχημένη καριέρα σαν ηθοποιός.Ναι,την πιστέψαμε τώρα.Αν ήξερα ότι είχε τέτοια ψυχολογικά δεν θα αγόραζα καν το βιβλίο,πόσο μάλλον να το διάβαζα.

Από την άλλη,η ιστορία του Νικ και της Χόουπ μου φάνηκε πιο φυσική,αν και εκεί επίσης δεν έλειπαν τα ψυχολογικά θέματα.Ο Νικ τρέχει να ξεφύγει από το παρελθόν του ως θύμα παιδικής σεξουαλικής κακοποίησης και τον ρόλο του ως αποδιοπομπαίο τράγο για ένα φόνο που δεν έχει διαπράξει,και η Χόουπ(που φαίνεται η πιο φυσιολογική από όλους)παρ'όλη την αποδοκιμασία της μητέρας της σχετικά με το βάρος της όταν ήταν παιδί,έχει γίνει πια μια επιτυχημένη δικηγόρος που προσπαθει να προστατέψει την οικογένειά της.

Παρατήρησα ότο η συγγραφέας επέλεξε να επικεντρωθεί πιο πολύ στα εσωτερικά συναισθήματα και σκέψεις των πρωταγωνιστών παρά στην πλοκή που φαινόταν δευτερεύουσα μερικές φορές,αν και ήταν ενδιαφέρουσα.Αυτό που δεν μου άρεσε καθόλου ήταν και που δεν υπήρχε επίλυση σε προβλήματα που έπρεπε να συζητηθούν,όπως για παράδειγμα το ότι η Κασσάνδρα είχε εγκαταλείψει τον Τσεις,και για αρκετά χρόνια είχε άλλες σχέσεις ενώ ήταν ακόμα παντρεμένη μαζί του,και το ότι αυτός δεν της μίλησε ποτέ γι'αυτό το θέμα.

Θα το σκεφτώ αρκετά πριν διαβάσω άλλο βιβλίο της ίδιας συγγραφέως στο μέλλον.

This author's writing is quite different than what we normally see in a romance novel these days. Its almost as if she's trying to be poetic, or flowery. Except instead of drawing a vivid image in your mind like Katherine Woodiwiss's writing, you find yourself getting impatient, bored.

This book has way too many flash backs, very little chemistry or passion between the main characters, and due to the writing style, not very engaging.

Over all, I gave it 2 stars, just because the ending was surprising.

Steam: very mild (No details at all in love scenes). Rated G

Cassandra Winter befriends Hope Tessier in college and Hope brings her home to the Napa Valley Winery that her brother Chase runs. Chase and Cass fall in love, but there are many unresolved problems in all their lives. When Cass disappears and then reappears several years later as an actress, no contact is made. Hope is now a prosecutor in San Francisco. When Cass is brutally beaten, raped and left for dead, everyone comes together. All of the background stories of each character are told and tied together. Complicated, but good plot.

Bed of Roses could have been called A Tangle of Grapevines. Set in the wine country of the Napa Valley, this story intertwined not just two, but eight characters in a plot that makes the scariest roller coaster imaginable seem tame! Although the Happily Ever After does come, as it does in all Katherine Stone books, the path to happiness is a very rocky road, filled with events that had me gasping in disbelief several times! A truly wonderful I-can't-put-it-down book!!

Looking back I'm not sure why I loved this book so much tbh. It was engaging the whole time and the plot really moved along at a nice pace. I enjoyed the relationships that were built in this, and man all of those twists and turns really had me feeling for the characters. I liked the in-depth convos and the characters working through their past traumas and rooted for all of them to the end.

J'aime beaucoup Katherine Stone, mais ce coup-ci je suis déçue. Je n'ai pas réussi à apprécier l'histoire et je pense que la traduction n'y est pas étrangère. Après l'avoir fini, j'ai été vérifier et de 432 pages (VO Mass Market Paperback) on passe à 281 pages pour la VF de chez "J'ai lu". Les cinq livres précédents que j'avais lus de cette auteur étaient aussi en français, mais je n'avais jamais ressenti de telles coupures! Un livre à relire en anglais donc.

Despite the fact that Stone's plots are over the top and prose rather flowery (or perhaps because of?), I adore her books. This was another solid read from her. I really enjoyed the characters and the overall storyline. The drama, the romance, the betrayals and acceptance - all of it was well done.

How cow!!! Everybody in the whole book was damaged. It was pretty ridiculous. From heroin mother, throw away babyies, physically injured babies, self absorbed witches (think with a "b"). You have to wonder what kind of life Katherine Stone had. Pretty sick
