The British government asks Gabriel Macpherson to help them determine whether or not she is working for Napoleon. Soon after Gabriel becomes the manager of her country estate, he falls in love with Selena, believing God has chosen her for him. aka Sharon Harlow

Bestselling author Sharon Gillenwater writes stories about love—between a man and a woman, of family and home, and the everlasting love of God and Jesus.

She grew up on a ranch in the Rolling Plains of West Texas, near the small town of Colorado City. Marriage took her across the country, but Texas is still dear to her heart. All of her Christian contemporary romances and most of her Christian historical romances are set in small West Texas towns filled with rugged, yet tenderhearted cowboys and strong, yet compassionate women.

While on a trip to England and Scotland years ago, the history and people captured her imagination. After returning home, she discovered Regency romances and another favorite time period and setting. She currently has two Christian Regency historical romances available, along with three sweet historical Regency romances.

She and her husband live in a quiet, rural area of Washington state with a wonderful view of the mountains. A friend once commented, “It’s like a writer’s retreat.” Sharon agrees and is busy dreaming up stories about Texas cowboys or English and Scottish heroes and the women who win their hearts.

This is my first time reading a book by Sharon Gillenwater, and I found it to be a delightful read! The storyline is different and it draws you in, and the characters are real. I loved that there were so many different characters in the book and that we got to see into their lives and learn about them. Although I found out there was a first book that accompanied this book, this book can definitely stand alone.

One thing I did not like about this book, was how much background was given in the beginning. At times I felt that the book was slowed down because of all the details, but as I kept reading it definitely picked up a bit, and I see that the author was just setting the scene. I also wished the author wrote a little bit more about the character's relationship with Christ, there were some references to it, but not as much as I would have liked.

Storyline:
Selena Delaroe is a spy for Napoleon, but not by choice she is being forced to spy for him and against England because they are holding her twin brother Nicholas in prison. When Gabriel Macpherson, a Scot sees Selena for the first time, he falls in love. But he does not meet her until one year later when he decides to spy for the government and determine if she really is a spy or not. When the couple meet, sparks fly and they soon fall in love. But what Gabriel discovers is not what he wanted to find, now he must decide to help Selena or be called a traitor to his country as well. What will he do?

An added bonus in this story is the added storyline of Selena's brother Nicholas and Adrienne. I loved reading about them and how they fell in love. Altogether, a great story, and one I will recommend to others!

The idea of this. The time period and the highlands makes the best setting. I did think the beginning of this was an introduction to sooo many characters and people named. I actually felt like I was trudging thru this and wanted to give up. I think the story would have benefited of a better editor. Eliminating some characters and perhaps making this one POV. The time period felt very ww2 spy thriller over regency. This kept throwing me off.
In the end - I just skimmed and could not get past the stage where you feel like you are reading thru mud.

This was a nice follow up to book 1 so I could read Gage's story and Nick's stories. There does not seem to be a book 3 and I am not sure whose story it would be anyway. I was a bit disappointed at Nick's romance--that there seemed to be no telling of it--the reader was just kind of dropped down into it.

Great story

This story is set in the early 1800's under Napoleon's reign.
This is a great story that includes soldiers, balls, fancy dresses, kilts & intrigue. Who was the British spy who supported Napoleon?
Through faith Gabriel found his happy life & home.

sweet romance

A bit of everything, spies, evil doers, and history all rolled up in a fine romance for a sister and a brother. And In wartime which watching Russia has us all feeling a bit of identification with this French and English war.

Very enjoyable read!

The weaving of the espionage element through the middle of two very good love stories was expertly done. Can't wait to read the next of her books!

While I didn't love this book as much as the first one, it's a great historical fiction novel. Totally recommend.

Liked this one even more than the first. I wish she'd write more of these. I haven't liked her contemporary stories as much. Tried Home Sweet Texas and Jenna's Cowboy, then just gave up.
