On receiving news of a beloved teacher’s death, a man struggles with the loss of a relationship sustained by deep admiration and love. Memories of their shared trajectory are separated in three orbits where the man’s past, present, and future are all punctuated by the same intense grief. In Orbit is a sustained narrative of loss and longing.
This features some interesting concepts and plays around with different styles of poetry, but didn't make me as emotionally invested/reactive as I was hoping for.
An interesting collection of concrete and other form poetry.
This is a really short review, because this one is a good example of poetry that works well. And if poetry is working well, there's no real way to pin it down.
I could share lines I loved, like:
'a bird mimicking the echoes of hoof on metal'
'dredged up, cairned, moss-soft'
'her absence was an exploding star'
But all of these lines mean very little without the rest of the poem. Maybe they'll peak your interest, maybe they won't. But you read them inside the gem of each poem and they're really something special.
Beautifully written book about Love , Loss and Grief. Written in many different styles , which I think conveys the different forms that all those emotions can take. Lovely stuff. A book i will return to.
