Yoshihiro Togashi (冨樫義博) is a manga artist. Credited in Chinese translations as Fu Jian Yi Bo.

He began drawing manga at an early age; while he attended college, the publisher Shueisha recognized his talent. Togashi has authored numerous manga series in different genres during the past three decades. He is perhaps best known for writing and illustrating the YuYu Hakusho and Hunter × Hunter series, both of which have been published in the popular Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. Togashi is married to Naoko Takeuchi, the author of Sailor Moon.

(This review is for the first seven chapters of Volume 1, as that's all I've found in English so far. As it happens, the Goodreads pages for this series seem to be exclusively the bunkobon edition, compiling the manga into two volumes, rather than the original four-volume tankobon, which makes things more annoying still...)

As a fan of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter, and to a lesser extent the less-popular Level E, it's with some shame that I come so late to Togashi-sensei's first Jump serialization (though, in fairness, the fan translations come few and far between...). It's very interesting to see Togashi's roots in an ecchi rom-com series, especially as his later works would have less and less romance, while Togashi would always find room to draw cute girls (though rarely in compromising situations or states of undress...).

Ryuji's basic face looks closer to the simpler design of Gon Freeccs, three manga serializations from now, though all kinds of humorous reactions fit more with what we'll see in the sooner Yu Yu Hakusho. Character designs tend closer toward "realism," though nowhere near as far as in the comparably more mature Level E.

The character Levi works as the Project Manager for the Demon World Soul Bank Japan Branch, meaning Togashi had planned a bureaucratic Hell much earlier than YYH, pretty neat.

"Are you gay, you bastard?! Feel some shame, shame, shame!!!"

I liked when drunken Ryuji put Maria's bikini top into a bag and huffed it.

Read: Volumes 1-2 of 2. Hella funny shounen manga. Can't remember if it was in this volume or the second, but fave scene: yakuza karuta!
