Murielle and Luke are getting married! The whole town has turned out for the reception. The mayor has even let the newlyweds use her mansion for the reception. But when the mayor’s personal chef turns up dead in the pantry, all of the suspects are friends of the bride and groom. Meanwhile, in another part of the solar system, Old Man Jenkins is getting a guided tour of Neptune and remembering all the things he misses about being home - mainly Granny Pepper.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
A delightful visit to Winterfield and its population of quirky (and other worldly) inhabitants.
All my favourite characters appeared plus some baddies....of course! And new to the mix were aliens.
The story was set around the wedding of Murielle and Luke....there were flowers, and fancy dresses, and food and drink, and murder and alien abductions....just your ordinary, run of the mill wedding ...
Ben and Belladonna investigated in their own inimitable fashion.....and the ending set things up perfectly for the next in the series.
A great read, lots of laughs, and lots of suspense.
Belladonna and the Nightshade witches are all "wand" up fighting dark magic, helping friends and solving murders. Ben, Bella's boyfriend, agonizes over asking her to marry him. I like the characters and quirky story. Will the Nightshade Witches stop the spread of dark magic? Will Ben get Bella to say yes? I look forward to the next book.
A dead body, a murder and perhaps an alien thrown in?
A really fun read. What could be better than a wedding - perhaps finding a dead body?. Can Belladonna solve the crime (with the help of the delectable detective)? Perhaps but that doesn't explain the aliens. Terrific book. Recommended for all who love quirky paranormal cozies.
I love when stories surprise me. The combination of characters in one little town... DEFINITELY makes things interesting. Well written and constructed to keep you turning the pages!!
Again, a nice light read like the first two in the series. Interesting enough to keep me reading until the end. As with the others, it could’ve used better editing.
The Winterfield Town Hall was a din of noise, with townsfolk murmering and some talking loudly over each other. The large room had construction lights but no heat. Jessie, an elf, along with her Linda and Betty, distributed coffee, cocoa, and baked goods to the crowd. But as Jessie went outside to her bakery van for refills, she saw a small green alien hiding close by and she filmed it with her cellphone. They called Detective Ben and Belladonna, a local witch, into the room to show them. In a town full of ghosts, vampires, and every other kind of supernatural, aliens were different and fascinating! And maybe that would explain the mysterious lights?
Bella, Murielle, and Carly took Ben’s dog for a walk so Bella could look for the alien on her own. Olwen pulled on the leash toward the old cemetary.
The ladies went to the skating rink for Muri’s bachelorette party. Then the next day Bella styled her hair and used her magic to make the wedding dress fancier, as Muri requested. At the meeting hall, Bella realized she forgot to change into her own dress! But her magic once again came to the rescue. The reception afterwards was elegant in the Mayor’s Mansion. All was going well until a blood-curdling scream from the kitchen brought everything to a standstill. Ben and Bella raced to the kitchen. What had happened?
The author paints a picture with the exquisite detail she gives in this story. It’s like being right there with everyone. The wedding of Luke and Mari is the main focus, but other things are happening around them. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it, along with the first two books in the series. I was given a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it. My comments reflect my honest opinion.
Okay read. I found the story to be a little disjointed. It's like the excited girl who can't stay on topic because she wants to tell you about three or four things all at once. I felt like the main story was lacking. Still Love the characters, hopefully the next book isn't so off topic... on another topic...then squirrel.
I love Sara Bourgeois books, but this one has me stumped! I’m used to cozies that aren’t standalone, with a continuing storyline, but, what?? I don’t want to give anything away, but I’m truly stumped this time and with how this ended! Please bring out the next book quickly!
This book was disappointing to me. There was way too much stuff going on and no clear story. It felt like a bunch of prologue chapters for another book. Hope the next book is better.
ARC Review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In winterfield Illinois you have a murder to solve ,alien sighting ,A wedding , and so much more happening in this town Where the friends, neighbors all get together. Awesome read.
There is no resolution for the murders. I am tremendously disappointed in the author after having read some of her other works. Will think twice before I read another.
For honest review. This town has a lot of supernatural people in it that a friend and family . At the wedding their was a murder and a alien abuctution .This story is really good.
This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
This book and book 4 are really one book, don't bother to read unless you have book 4 handy.
Definitely not as good as the first two.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This is another winner. I loved this book as much as the first two books. I highly recommended this series to everyone who loves cozy witch mysteries. This author writes with a great sense of humor. Diana Romano
