5 ★ I bloody loved this one. “When a woman eats pussy as well as this, you have to wife her up before someone else does”. Not a truer word has been spoken.
A short friends-to-lovers tale that’s fun to spend a few hours with.

A few hours. That’s how long it takes for Jess’s life to completely fall apart. First, she gets fired from her librarian job and when she gets home early she finds her girlfriend between the legs of another woman. Distraught and broken she arrives on her best friends Emma’s doorstep a blubbering mess.
Emma takes her job of cheering Jess up very seriously. It helps that they’ve just entered the Holiday Season, which happens to be Emma’s favorite. She is determined to turn Jess from a grumpy grinch into a smiling elf. Step one: an ugly Christmas sweater party at her colleague’s house. There, Emma ends up standing under the mistletoe with Jess. Did her lifelong best friend just give her the best damn kiss of her life? Did Jess feel it too?
You know what you get into with a Shannon O’Conner book. Her stories are fast reads and fun. This one is no exception. For me, the premise is good, but the story itself lacked some depth. It’s told from a double POV so we get both Jess’s and Emma’s story. The way they act around each other after that faithful kiss is not what I would expect life long best friends to do. As is true for so many books, it all comes down to communication.
After the women share a second kiss, they finally open up to each other and then all bets are off. The story turns heated in just a few pages and hot it gets!
Ugly Christmas Sweater is light and fun. If you’re looking for something with a little more body, you might want to skip this one.
This book was incredibly charming, and I particularly enjoyed the friends-to-lovers aspect of the storyline. It was evident that Emma and Jess had feelings for each other, but they were hesitant to acknowledge their attraction due to the fear of jeopardizing their friendship, all because of a kiss at the Ugly Sweater Christmas Party. I found myself urging them to be honest with each other throughout the book. However, when they finally do confront their feelings, it is undoubtedly worth the wait.
Emma's efforts to lift Jess's spirits after she experienced a series of unfortunate events, including losing her job, her girlfriend, and her home all in one day were heartwarming and thoughtful. Emma's idea of creating a list of twelve activities to help Jess embrace the Christmas spirit was particularly sweet.
Overall, this book is delightful and quick to read, which leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend it.
Star rating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice rating. 🔥🔥🔥

3.5⭐️. Jess and Emma have been best friends for decades. After a scrumptious kiss at an ugly Christmas sweater party, they both (unbeknownst to the other) find that there’s more feelings involved than just friendship. Neither wants to say or do anything that may hurt their friendship so naturally it’s better to not say anything. It’s clear they have a connection. Will they risk the potential friendship fall out if their feelings aren’t reciprocated?
This book was a quick read. It was fun to see the other characters from the previous books at the party. I definitely feel like there should have been more trust and communication between the MCs. They connect on so many levels that it was a little harder to see where their fears were really coming from. That said, the author delivers a sweet and sexy friends to lovers story worth reading!!

Jess is having the ultimate bad day, with everything going wrong. In one day, she is a single, out of work librarian. So she goes for comfort to her best friend Emma, a fashion designer. To try to get Jess out of her funk, Emma takes her to an ugly sweater Christmas party, where they kiss under the mistletoe. This is a warm, friends-to-lovers Christmas story, written in a simple way with no pretensions. There are a few editing errors, such as a whole paragraph is repeated, and a few spelling errors, but overall a good story.

Ugly Sweater Christmas by Shannon O'Connor, is the fourth novella in the The Holidays with You Series of sapphic romances all of them set around a holiday with this one being Christmass.
The story is set around Jess and Emma who have been friends for years but when Jess loses her job on her worst day in the run up to Christmass Emma not only provides a roof but aims to get her in the holiday spirit.
Ugly Sweater Christmas is short at only around 100 pages which was read in one sitting which is unusual for me even for a novella of this size.
The way that the writer was able to build up the tension between Emma and Jess as the story switched point of view, as they both realised there was a connection between the two of them, but did not want to destroy their friendship.
While a novella does have difficulty being a slow burn the way that Shannon O'Connor did this in this was done better then I have read in some full size books.
I do have a couple of issues with the story and this may be due to the size one. The obligatory three act break up was about 3 pages and could have been longer, by taking some of the spice out of the novel which is most of the last part of the story.
The other is more of a minor point in the story Emma is a reader with a number of scenes of them going into bookstores which is fine.
However at the end of the novel Jess says the reason she does not read is that unlike Emma who sees the book as a movie in her head she sees nothing instead.
This is called aphantasia, which affects about 3% of the population, something I have but did not realise I was unusual.
As someone who has read all their life it came a little jarring having said that everyone's experiences of being different (only affects 3% of the population), they can never be universal representation by just one character.
Having said that I would still recommend Ugly Sweater Christmas by Shannon O'Connor to anyone who loves romance novellas.
I love a good holiday romance. Emphasis on “good.” But if you’re looking for that in Ugly Sweater Christmas, you’re not going to find it. The story had promise, and I was intrigued reading the synopsis. But the author doesn’t deliver. The characters are no more than surface level caricatures of best friends that then fall in love.
The two MCs are okay. I didn’t feel like I got to know either one of them very well, and what I did find out was just basic, superficial information. I didn’t care about either of the MCs, so it makes it more difficult to be engaged in their budding romantic relationship. It went from kissing under the mistletoe, to chapters where both characters wondered if the other one felt the same, to having sex. That was it. No real development of their relationship. And I didn’t even care if they got together or not.
Then when they were together, they had this stupid fight that wasn’t necessary only to immediately make up the next day.
This read like a fan fic by an author that is still developing their writing style. Nothing wrong with that, but if you’re looking for a short read with meaningful dialogue, characterization, and things that make sense in general, you won’t find it in this story.
What the author truly needs is some feedback during the writing process. Most books I’ve read – traditionally published or self-published – have an acknowledgement section at the back where they thank people that have read their work in progress and provided feedback along the way. This author sorely needs some people on the team to help sort out the characters, storyline, and help create a story that is engaging rather than one that simply takes a well-known trope and writes around it without saying much of anything. Get yourself a beta team, girl. It’ll help so much.

When Jess’s life falls to pieces, her BFF Emma does everything she can to help uplift her spirits--including planning 12 days of Christmas activities to get Jess back into the holiday cheer.
But when Jess and Emma go to a Christmas party and find themselves under a mistletoe sparks fly. Will they risk their friendship for the possibility of something greater?
My thoughts: 3 stars
It starts with a peek of interest, but it all goes downhill from there.
Ugly Sweater Christmas is a sweet romance without much of a plot or storyline. The primary focus is the relationship development between two friends, Jess and Emma. It feels weird that the friends are projected as opposites but their minds and speech are the same. They feel the same emotionally to where it is easy to forget which head/POV you are in. Honestly, it felt like both characters we’re constantly just saying “but she’s my best friend!”
Once you get to the spice in the story, it does not advance the plot but stalls the story. It feels like a shift into erotica where the characters are being forced to play their roles.

While this might be a fun light holiday read for some other readers out there, I just felt like the story missed layers and the characters lacked depth.
I enjoyed the premise but this holiday romance failed to deliver.
If you read a book from Shannon O'Connor, you know that you'll read a fast paced book, that often has quite some spice in the ending. This book didn't disappoint in that regard, even thought there definitely was some slow burn between the two best friends. I'm not sure if I'm totally on board with the small fight they had at the ending of the book, it felt a bit forced and didn't add much to the story in my opinion. I love reading Christmas books, even during summer, so I really liked reading about the list of things Emma had put together for them to do together to get Jess in the Christmas spirit. Especially as she adapted the list as she saw to what Jess reacted well. So I can definitely recommend this book if you have an hour or two to spare and want something lighthearted and quick.
Ugly Sweater Christmas is a short read, but if you’ve read the previous three books in The Holidays With You series you’ll be familiar with many of the characters. For me, this made the book not seem as short as it was, and out of the series I think this was my favorite one yet! I love the chemistry between Jess and Emma. While I usually don’t reach for friends to lovers, this one had me hooked. The spice was good, though I think the author tends to like certain terms when referring to kissing that I’m not a fan of and just comes off as cringy. I was able to move past that pretty quickly. Worth the quick read especially if you don’t have a ton of time.

This book is a lighthearted holiday romance about two best friends. It begins with Jess going through a tough time and Emma coming to her rescue. They have been best friends since elementary school. Although they are both interested in women, they have never considered dating each other. Everything changes when they share a kiss under the mistletoe. Now, they both need to confront their feelings and decide if they are willing to take a chance on a romantic relationship and potentially risk their friendship. I would recommend this book as a quick and enjoyable beach read that will uplift your spirits and leave you feeling good.
This was a short, lovely book. It grabbed my interest with the first chapter, and I could barely put it down. You only scratch the surface of these characters, but that doesn't mean you like them any less. Some of the spice I felt were a little weird for what we knew of the characters. If someone wants a sweet christmas romance, I would recommend this book. I think this book could've had a little more meat in iti would've rated higher. What a cute Holiday book. It’s a short story that moves fast but it works because you really get the sense that the two main characters already know each other and just needed a push to move to the next level together.
They work off each other well and even through it’s a short book the romance didn’t seem rushed.
The only thing that didn’t work was that the ending feels very abrupt and I felt like something was missing. Still a good quick read that is worth spending the time to enjoy.

The last of the series & it didn’t disappoint. Loved the best friends to lovers trope to end this between Emma & Jess. Who knew a kiss under a mistletoe would spike feelings between the 2 besties.
Loved the scenes about body image and also one of the lines I really loved “But just know this, it’s okay to not always be okay! It’s okay to show some fucking emotions and to feel shit.” So very true these days.

I liked this story. Jess, works at the library, or she did. On the day she gets laid off she goes home to find her girlfriend with another lover..... Yikes what an opening chapter. Jess turns to her best friend Emma for help.
Emma is determined to cheer up Jess and make the oncoming festive season the best Christmas ever. Who doesn't love an ugly sweater Christmas party.
There is some mistletoe..... should they, will it spoil their friendship
If you like a good Christmas story that's not to heavy give this one a whirl.
Great short story! Jess and Emma are long time friends who could’ve/should’ve been more a long time ago - but never pursued that step in order to preserve their friendship.
Life happens and they are thrown together when Jess loses her job. A party that she doesn’t want to be at, pushy friends and some mistletoe start them on a journey that could lead to HEA.
It’s a quick, spicy, and entertaining story that you’ll want to finish in one reading.
I read an Advance Copy of this book and am leaving this voluntary review based on my personal reading experience.
I enjoyed the chemistry that was there all along, it just shows that we sometimes ignore what is right in front of us, but the doubt from both sides is also a spot-on situation for would be couples.
I liked the fact that the couples from her other books were also referenced in there, if you have not read any of her other books, I encourage you to do so.

The Emma and Jess story is heart warming showing how often we overlook our best partner in terms of not wanting to destroy friendship. They show how empathy and understanding of another's perspective can cause misunderstandings in any relationship.
Their story shows growth and awakening to possibilities, however, the story was kind of bland and repetitive. With this I will still recommend to friends.

Very simple but well written christmassy love story (or F*K story might be more accurate for these two). Their minds dont stay innocent for too long once they both get the green light. Read the whole thing in about 2 hours and would certainly revisit every xmas in the hopes of manifesting my own xmas sugar mommy with the love language of giving gift but also loves you in a way only a best friend can.

Jess & Emma have been best friends for as long as they can remember. When your life is falling apart you always lean on those closest to you. Sometimes you don't know what you have right in front of you and all it takes is a bit of Mistletoe! Highly Recommend! You won't be disappointed!
Shannon O’Connor has produced a sweet short story sexy enough to hold interest. I would have enjoyed it more if there were not so many editing errors. Repeated paragraphs and illogical wording distracts from the writers intent. It is a shame as the story is well thought out and the characters and setting are perfect.
Emma and Jess are best friends who share a kiss under the mistletoe that changes their lives. Friends to lovers, this is the perfect story to read when sat curled up with a mug of hot chocolate with the Christmas tree lights sparkling. Sweet and spicy like the two main characters.

Wow what a beautiful love story I loved the main characters right from the beginning they were best friends so you already know what they are like but to make that last leap to be together as girlfriends it's a beautiful book to curl up too I couldn't put it down a fabulous must-read congratulations
The perfect book for a little Christmas in July or any month for that matter. This is the fourth book in The Holidays with You series. A friends to lovers book that brings the heat. Jess and Emma are so sweet together. Shannon has done it again and you don’t want to miss it. I received an advanced review copy for free, and Iam leaving this review voluntarily.
The writing left a lot to be desired. It didn’t read like a book that had gone through any rounds of editing. The dialogue felt overly cheesy at times. None of the characters really had any depth to them.
I really like the concept and general plot of the book and there were definitely cute moments! The author has potential I just think they would greatly benefit from beta readers during the writing process!
It’s an easy holiday read. The last half of the book is all smut no plot 🌶️🌶️🌶️ it escalates so quickly 😂
Thank you to Book Sirens and Shannon O’Connor for providing a free review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book has far too many typos and errors. A lot of duplicate paragraphs as well. Character voices are nearly indistinguishable. It’s kinda cute and is not very long, but if it were longer I would not have finished. Was it written with chat gpt?
Finding out your best friend could actually be your true love. Jess has had the worst day ever and Emma try's everything to try and get her into the holiday spirit. Enter a piece of mistletoe and they share the best kiss ever. Great holiday feel good story. Lots of holiday cheer and steamy too.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The story of Emma and Jess is friends to lovers. It was really great. They were the best of friends until the ugly Christmas sweater party and the rest was history. I recommend ready.
2 stars. O'Connor is such a hit or miss author with me. This was a miss. The characters felt the same as each other. They were both one dimensional and lacked any chemistry with each other. Also, this was just really boring. Day to day stuff and nothing to the plot. I was so bored.
