Jacques-Henri Lartigue was given his first camera in 1902 for his seventh birthday, and he went on to take hundreds of pictures during his childhood. Lartigue had a gift of knowing when to click the shutter of his camera to capture people and things in motion - a ball suspended in the air, an uncle diving into the water, and the first flight of a glider in France. These photographs are presented in this book and reveal Lartigue's exploration of the world around him. It sets out to offer young readers an entertaining approach to understanding and appreciating photography.

Really interesting photos taken in 1902 - 1921.

Jacques-Henri Lartigue groeide als tweede zoon op in een welgestelde familie in Parijs. Op 7-jarige leeftijd (1902) kreeg hij van zijn vader zijn ultieme droom: een eigen fotoapparaat (zo'n zwaar, oud model met glazen platen, zwart doek en driepoot). Om het te kunnen bedienen moest hij zelf op een stoel gaan staan, maar zijn hobby werd een ware passie. Honderden foto's zou hij nemen met die open, frisse blik zoals alleen kinderen (en een zeldzame volwassene) die kunnen hebben. Zijn knotsgekke familie, tuk op alls wat nieuw was (vliegeren, auto's, zweefvliegtuigjes,...), vormde een dankbaar decor.
Het resultaat is dan ook verrassend modern!
