A very quick booklet, which can be read in one day, and which in the end is very pleasant. The protagonists are Carlo and Fred and the events take place in Florence. Carlo is a penniless translator who at a certain point, in order to scrape together some money, decides to rent a room in his apartment. Fred is the tenant who shows up for the announcement and who immediately presents himself as a very different individual from Carlo: more brazen, enterprising and without regard, where Carlo is polite, right-thinking and who prefers to go unseen in the lives of the others. From day one Fred takes possession not only of his room, but of all of Carlo's apartment, upsetting his whole peaceful life, so much so that at a certain point even to the reader the story begins to seem like a big nightmare, since Fred brings ambiguous and smelly friends to Carlo's house, women of all types and ages, as well as ruining the few “serious” dinners that Carlo organizes with old girlfriends. At a certain point, in the building opposite Carlo's, two old ladies are robbed and murdered in two different weeks, and Carlo's suspicions immediately fall on Fred. I don't want to spoil so I'll stop here, but know that things are not what they seem and that in the end Fred will give Carlo one last, big surprise before disappearing from his life forever. A book that definitely deserves three stars for the pleasure of reading.

«E tu allora? Me l'hai detto che soffri di emorroidi?»
«Certo che no... E poi come cavolo fai a saperlo?»
«Fred osserva.

Per me bocciato!

Read it if:
* You enjoy short, fast-paced stories
* You enjoy stories that build tension upon tension, growing increasingly absurd until everything unexpectedly unravels

Skip it if:
* You prefer books with deeper themes and reflections
* You get frustrated by characters who let themselves be overpowered by others

Why 2 stars:
- [ ] Theme: 2 (The theme of the book is both intriguing and slightly provocative. The entire story revolves around a tenant the protagonist takes in—and the sheer amount of trouble he causes)
- [ ] Plot: 2 (The plot is a tragicomedy in which the protagonist finds himself trapped in a series of absurd situations caused by his new tenant—without any way to escape)
- [ ] Characters: 2 (The characters are few and somewhat minimalistic. They aren’t particularly likable, and it’s hard to identify with any of them. Moreover, the portrayal of gender roles feels quite old-fashioned rather than modern)
- [ ] Fun/adventure/surprise: 2 (The book is full of surprises, though many of them are rather unpleasant. The pacing keeps up well, maintaining a steady and engaging flow of events)
- [ ] Profoundness: 1 (The book is purely an entertaining novel, without any significant elements of deeper reflection)
- [ ] Length of the book: 4 (The book is very short, making it a quick and satisfying read. With its moderate prose, it flows smoothly and can be finished in no time)
- [ ] Language and style of writing: 3 (The language is standard, occasionally ironic or even self-deprecating, making it enjoyable to read. It’s very simple, as are the dialogues, which makes the book easily accessible)

Fauvorite part
- [ ] The ending!

Least fauvorite part
- [ ] The unfortunate character of Fred, although it’s the centerpiece of the book

Superficiale, maschilista a livelli indecenti. L'omicidio è messo lì a caso.
