Circle of danger... She hasn't told her firends about the strange glowing ring that she found. It seems to be giving her powers -- special abilities that let her enter a world she's been dying to experience. Here's her chance to learn what she longs to how Michael feels about her. He feels all alone on Earth and he's searching for a place to belong. He didn't count on discovering someone to care about right here in Roswell. Now he's falling for his best friend. But what he doesn't know, and Maria doesn't realize, is that she's drawing danger to them all....
Melinda Metz grew up in San Jose, California. People sometimes ask if she knows the way there. She kinda does, but she has an off-kilter sense of direction, so to be confident of arriving, it's better to consult some kind of navigational device.
Her mother tried to teach her to read in kindergarten, but Melinda had no interest. She also had no interest in learning to write her name. (FYI, when Melinda was in kindergarten it was all about finger-painting, play time, and naps.) Eventually, she mastered both and even majored in English at San Jose State University.
After college, Melinda moved to Manhattan to seek her fortune, which involved learning to identify fruits and vegetables while working at a grocery store, making $2.73 working backstage for an off-off Broadway play (her part of the box-office profits), and editing books.
Melinda and the lovely and talented Laura J. Burns pretty much became unofficial writing partners when they were editors at the same company. They teamed up to brainstorm story ideas, and at some point their brains fused in some key places. Later they worked on the Roswell High book series, Laura developing and editing the series, Melinda writing.
That series led to Melinda and Laura, now an official writing team, writing two TV pilots, moving to L.A. to work on the Roswell TV show, and briefly living in Toronto while on the writing staff of 1-800-Missing. They both continue to write books, together and separately.
Laura and Melinda's new book, Sanctuary Bay, a YA thriller, is coming out in January 2016. It's set at an ultra-exclusive private school on an island. Once a student is accepted to the school, they must stay until graduation. No visits home, no contact with the outside world at all. Find out why in January!
The first four books in Melinda's new middle-grade mystery series,S.M.A.R.T.S., are out now. The books involve a group of kids in a makerspace club and they all have lots of science info. For all the cool geeks out there!
Melinda lives in Concord, NC with her dog, Scully (yes, she loves the woo-woo so much she named her dog after a kickass X-Files character). She has never regretted learning to read and write her name.
The Wild One is the third book in the Roswell High series of ten books, upon which the television series was based (a quarter of a century ago!) The television iteration didn't stick as closely to the plotline after the first book, so it can be seen as an interesting alternate history story. The books were targeted for adolescent girls, and the main focus is on the angst of teen romance, but the science-fiction twist adds a bit of a fun twist. This one focuses on Maria (who's found a nifty telepathic artifact) and Michael, though the other friends all have interesting bits of development... Liz (who's Ortecho in the books, not Parker) is still involved with the Max drama, etc., etc. It's a fun, very quick read, and ends with quite a cliffhanger. When the television series became popular Pocket reprinted the books with photographs of the cast on the covers, so the characters don't look much like they're described.
I'm really doubting about everybody's mental capacity on this book. They take the stupidest decisions all the time, non-stop. Still, it was better than the previous book.
Maria found a mysterious ring and she thinks that it is helping her to channel psychic powers. She hopes that her new powers will capture Michael's attention, and maybe he'll stop thinking of her as just a friend. Michael is eager to learn to more about a new alien the group meets. He wonders if he might have an alien family out there somewhere. Alex tries to comfort Isabel when she is going through a difficult time, and Isabel begins to realize that she might have feelings for him.
I loved the Roswell TV show when I was a teenager, and it was so fun to rediscover this story through the books! I don't think I would have enjoyed the books now as an adult if I didn't already have the nostalgia of the TV show.
I like that the books are different than the TV show and have different plot lines. It keeps it interesting for me, and it's fun to see how the books differ from the show. The character's personalities are a little different too. Michael is way more funny and less brooding. Isabel is more haughty and proud. Alex is more confident. Max is way less calm than in the TV show. It's weird to see these different sides to their personalities.
The writing is really dorky and has all the high school tropes that you would expect from a 90s teen novel. But I don't care! I love it anyway! Most people would probably roll their eyes at the teen angst, but it just makes me laugh because I already adore the characters.
The Seeker was a fantastic read that deals with the fallout from the events at the end of The Wild One.
Maria DeLuca still hasn't told her friends about the ring she found with the strange stone that occasionally glows. And when she suddenly develops psychic abilities, she's afraid no one will believe her but now she has the chance to be more than a simple human. And if she can find out how Michael feels about her along the way, that's even better. But what Maria doesn't know is that every time she uses her new abilities, she's drawing danger to Roswell and her friends.
I have been enjoying the Roswell High series and making comparisons to the nineties show as it's one of my favorites. The Seeker has a plot that largely focuses on Maria and is a unique plot that wasn't adapted for the show. At the end of The Wild One Maria finds a ring when the group goes to look for Isabel and Nikolas and it initially slips her mind with everything going on. Then at the start of this book, she unexpectedly develops some psychic powers but is unsure how everyone will react so she doesn't mention them. It was neat seeing Maria use her newfound powers and what happens as a result. I wasn't expecting the direction this plot would go and I found it to be really interesting. I'm curious to see what kind of consequences there will be in future books based on how this one ended.
I liked that we got to focus on Maria in this book as I feel like we haven't gotten enough time with her in the first two books. We also got quite a bit of development in her and Michael's relationship which I loved as I really enjoy those two together. They have such a great friendship and I'm really liking seeing their relationship progress. Isabel is still dealing with the affects of what happened in the previous book and it took a bit of time for her to work past what happened, largely with Alex's help. I like those two together as well and I'm hoping to see more romance between them in future books. Max and Liz are pretty much in the same place they were in the last book with little happening between them and I'm hoping we get some change on that front in the next book.
Overall The Seeker was a great follow-up to The Wild One and I'm looking forward to picking up the next book in the series soon.
This one I loved. The Max and Liz stuff is as boring as on the show, but I love Michael and Maria. Iz and Alex are cute too.
The Iz was in love with Nikolas felt a bit much… they knew each other for like a week?
Most of all though, love love LOVE the friendships. Especially between the girls, on the show Izzy is never really right with the others, here they support each other, forgive, understand, it is all very sweet. They call each other fristers (friends+sisters) which is a dumb word, but still, very sweet in context. Love unproblematic girlfriends.
If you're expecting some super ugly extraterrestrial life forms invading inhabitants of some unknown town with some jedi mind tricks and some bloody gore thrown in for good measure - then you better turn away right now or you'll be sorely disappointed. These aliens have either grown up reading way too many bad YA novels or ...no that's actually it. I can't think of any other reason. These aliens have read way too many bad YA novels!
You've got the whole why can't I be a normal girl, and the whole I am the most popular girl in school. As a result, I must not and cannot be seen with peasants in public. You even have the whole I have loved this girl for the whole of my life for some inexplicable reason but it would be best if we remain friends. I will continue to kiss her every chance I get and stalk her (because that has become the norm to show you truly love someone) but I must make it clear that we are only and ever will be friends. There's even the whole prying on a girl in her dreams, which is just so wrong on so many levels.
I am an all equal opportunities kind of person, so let's not forget the humans either. POP QUIZ hot shot - In the interest of studying human nature and because I have no life, if you came across a ring that glowed purple/green and you realised the very next day that you could heal things, as well as find the whereabouts of someone by touching something of theirs, would you:
A) Scream first and question the origins of the ring.
OR
B) Assume that you are special after all and that you have psychic powers, which you weren't aware of obviously.
If you answered A, pull up a chair and have a shot on me.
The only reason I'm giving this book 3 stars is because under all that nonsense 2 characters really shone for me - Alex and Michael. It's a shame they were moved to the sidelines in the show but they are the most realistic in my opinion - decent and down to Earth.
Roswell I love you! This is the series of books (Roswell High) on which the TV series Roswell was based. Because I started in the middle of the series (I have got to STOP doing that!) I was a little confused as to what was going on, but since I knew the charaters from the TV show it was still enjoyable . . . I actually really liked it!!
Maria has found a ring which seems to allow her to tap into magical powers, but when she keeps these powers a secret from the group will it cost her more than she bargained for?
Michael does not know what he feels for Maria, but he is starting to think it is more that the brother like love he had thought it was . . . in fact she is looking more and more kissable - oh dear.
Isabel is a basket case after Nikolas's death - will Alex be able to salvage her soul?
Max is convinced that Liz needs to stay away from him for her own saftey, but will his conviction result in her alienation from him at a time when he needs her most?
The gang is back together and there are mysteries and danger around every corner. Will their friendship be enough to keep them safe from Sheriff Valenti and his minions?
This one satisfied my rabid Roswell fan demands. Isabel's alien boyfriend is a stupid douche so I really just wanted to reach into my book and strangle him. Again, the quality of writing is for teens so be warned at the stupid jokes and sentences.
The Seeker gets a solid 3.5 stars for me. After an abrupt end to the last story, Maria discovers that she has special powers. This is a fun read and I'm really enjoying the series. It's like stepping into an alternate version of the television show, which is kind of awesome.
This book series is where the show is based on. However if you are expecting it to be exactly the same, you are wrong. For this reason, I wish they would've used different covers as readers may think its an exact copy.
This book is the third installment in a bookseries of ten book and continous where the previous book leaves off.
Isabel is left heartbroken after Nicholas is killed and tries to cope with the situation the best that she can. Alex is there to help, but while he has feelings for Isabel, when she kisses him he turns her away. He doesn't want her to think about Nicholas when she's kissing him.
After the events of the previous books, Maria finds a ring, she doesn't think anything weird off it and keeps it a secret. When she gets visions of her friends, she is under the impression that she is no longer normal and is special because she has these powers. Low and behold, when trying to help Michael on his quest to find the 'Mothership', she outdoes herself and gets herself in danger.
Michael is living with his new foster family, whom have strict rules and require him to babysit the rest of the children. He calls Maria for help, he sees her in new light. In a sexual way, suddenly he realizes that he actually finds her sexy instead of cute. Cute is reserved for someone like a sister not a girl he likes. It is Michael who finds Maria passed out on the floor of her room and brings her with the help of Liz and Max to Ray.
Liz and Max are still in a jam. He likes her, she likes him, but he's decided that they cannot be togehter, especially after the events of the previous book. Liz goes on a date with some random guy and Max cannot contain himself and stalks her, which makes her angry.
While the majority of this book, was about some clueless teenagers making dumb decisions and not thinking in general. I liked that we find out bits and pieces of Max, Izzy and Michaels origin.
Both Alex and Michael carried this book as it seems that they were the ones who made the least idiotic decisions.

First of all… these are getting tougher and rougher to read. In theory they should get better as you go along but… nope. The fun new quirk in this one is that most of the “Rs” were replaced by “Fs”. It was weird to say the least.
At least with this one everyone had recognizable motivations unlike the second book in the series where nobody had any motivations. They were just one dimensional pieces. Like Nikolas.
Isabel was apparently in love with the guy she’d known for two weeks and dated for less than one. She moped over him for most of the book. Lashed out at friends trying to help her through her grief and proceeded to move on again in less than a week.
Alex continues to be a doormat for Isabel to walk all over. She dumps him without telling him in the last book? It’s fine. She lets her new boyfriend hurt him & other friends? Whatever. He’ll still fall at her feet.
Max? He’s making all the decisions in his relationship with Liz and recognizes it’s hurting her but continues in with the “just friends” excuse. Then he stalks her in a date and thinks it’s acceptable to give her “permission” to date the other guy.
Liz is missing this major red flag with Maria but who can blame her when she has a stalker. Oh, and she’s leading nice guy Jerry on because Max won’t date her.
Maria has found a mystery ring that is giving her mystery powers. She has blackout and paralyzed spells afterward but no biggie. She doesn’t tell anyone until it can get her closer to a boy.
Michael is the only one making good choices. He abides by the rules of his new foster home. He hangs with Maria and realizes he likes her. He gets her help, he tells her not to do things without him. Just in case. Hot head Michael is the only one with common sense.
It won’t last

STOP... I actually loved this. This series has been surprising me recently and I am so excited to continue reading it. I have so many thoughts... okay. Firstly, I loved Michael in this book. His relationship with his foster "sibling" Dylan was so cute. I loved the scene where Maria and Michael were helping Dylan learn how to dance- so cute. Michael gave a little more in this book which I understand is because he and Maria were the main focus of this book, and I loved it, I hope we get more of his POV.
Maria was so interesting, especially her "physic" abilities. Aside from the obvious fact that it was an alien stone doing all the work, it was still interesting to read how she was using those talents and the fact she saw the ship?!?! I hope we can explore this more, but she needs to make better decisions for her health LOL. My girl was tripping over Michael ready to literally kill herself 💀
Isabel and Liz weren't really giving much in this book, apart from torturing themselves over these boys. We have Liz who is obsessed with Max, to the point where she realizes it's him even after he shape shifted (which omg??) but I hope she gives boring Jerry a chance because I kind of need some pining over here from Max. Isabel was coming to terms with the loss of Nikolas which I don't understand how she was so obsessed with him anyway, but whatever, I'm just ready for her to start respecting Alex- I love that man and he deserves a GOOD woman.
The cliffhanger at the end, I know Max isn't dead but omg picking up that next book immediately. This is such a long review... goodbye.
What a fantastic book! I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I love the backstory of what actually happened to the Pod Squad's family and the reason for the Roswell Crash. I also love the pararells to the OG series with Nasedo/Ray, Michael calling Max "Fearless Leader" and the frustrating Will they or Won't they with Liz and Max? I love the closeness of Maria and Michael and the growth of their friendship. I found it interesting with the the use of the glowing ring and showing the consequences of messing with something that isn't yours. Especially with more hints of what their powers involve and more visitors from their home planet. I love the direction the books are going towards and I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses.
Side Note, I hear what others meant by the decisions they made but at the end of the day, they are teenagers so they're likely to make some mistakes along the way. Not like there's an alien survival guide. But probably now in Roswell, it wouldn't surprise me if there was lol.
tmi but i underwent precocious puberty. and for a long time instead of looking to the obvious cause in my case (eating too much and burning off too little) i jokingly thought this and book 10 were the precipitants.
on a reread i find that my opinion of the writing and plot has drastically lowered. but michael and maria, though. i always rooted for maria, which is why i'm so unhappy with michael for his fuckboy behaviour over the series (cameron! isabel!)
they don't get any of the time-on-page that liz/max and alex/isabel do! A/I doesn't even end with them getting firmly back together (that shallow twat, getting it on with trevor)! MICHAEL AND MARIA NEEDED MORE THAN WHAT THEY GOT and don't get me started on the travesty that is the 2019 show
Why is everyone so horny for each other? Jeesh... 😂
Aside from that, I actually quite enjoyed this. It's fun and undemanding (and that cliffhanger ending!). I like how the dynamics between our main characters are explored (and how guys and girls can just be friends) and how Isabel wrestled with what happened in the previous book.
It's a bit random and not super deep, but the events flow into each book nicely and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
My Review: Book number 3 in the series and it’s finally starting to really peak my interest! Still the same things I dislike the 3rd person POV, quick pace, etc., but the plot is thickening! Although the pace was still quick, it didn’t feel too quick like the last book though. I really enjoyed the character development & relationship development in this one. My Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 Tropes: forbidden love, alien romance Triggers: mentions of murder
Focusing more on story progression compared to the previous book, alot appears to happen in a short span of pages. Max and Liz take the back seat more often in this book allowing Michael and Maria a chance to shine with more than a couple pages at their leisure. A good follow up to the last with an awesome cliffhanger to the next.
Much better than the previous book, purely because Isabel finally starts realizing that she has been the worst and everyone would be justified in dumping her as a friend. Also more Michael and Maria, who continue to be the best. I'm enjoying the total plot difference from the show, as well. Really no idea where things are going from here.
I can't tell if I love these books because of the TV show, (and those actors) or if these books actually stand the test of time without the show but either way they are 'out of this world!' The drama fells real. The emotions fell real. The relationships feel real. Maria, Michael, Liz, Max, Isabel, and Alex....ahhhh.... They haven't aged in the last 25 years & apparently neither have I.
once again another addicting read from this series and a great follow up from the last book and a great continuation from where the last book left off. Once again the character development over this book keeps improving from where the last book left
The "just friends" thing is getting really tiring. It's been going on for 3 books now! I still can't find Isabel's story interesting. As a matter of fact the ONLY interesting thing about her is Alex. Loved the romance between Michael and Maria.

Still some grammar errors in the kindle edition. Still enjoying the overall story. Easy read, not too deep. Don't know why the author spends pages on describing auras and smells but not a lot of detail elsewhere. Worth reading.
Still a fun read, the pacing just felt less like a book arc and more like a piece of a book. But I liked how the author is expanding the history of the characters. This book focused more on Maria which was fun.
I love Michael and Maria, but this one felt slow to me. It also bothers me how quickly Isabel moved on from Nikolas. I know they weren't together long, but her quick time of grief just doesn't sit right.
