Trine Erotic

Rate this book
Darwinian Literature. By all accounts 'Trine Erotic' is the first novel to explore evolutionary psychology. This "novel of ideas" -- what author Andrews calls "evolutionary fiction," "biofiction," and "meta-seductive fiction"-- also explores why we write: to seduce (as mating strategy), to process, to heal ourselves and ultimately readers, to find meaning. It's concerned with memes -- and art and culture's ability to influence our lives. And it attempts to address the questions of love that preoccupy us, such as passionate love versus companionate love, selfish love and selfless love; looking at love through a triune system, which Andrews calls: "evolution, experience, and culture." Finally, it is also a book about reconciliation of familiar dichotomies -- of spirituality and science; feminine and masculine principles/archetypes, and more.

I lived next door to Alice in New Paltz, NY during college. I babysat her daughter a few times. This was all very interesting to say the least.

At first when reading the galley edition of the book I was like, "What the fuck?" But her daughter was asleep and I had nothing better to do, so I suddenly found myself two hundred pages in and reconsidering my "what the fuck?" status.

I ended up really liking it. I rec. it to a lot of people; I love passing it off and seeing how people react.

Let me tell you, it's hard to get in to. You have to pass about 1/4 of the book to get hooked, and I think it initially turns a lot of people off, so they never get to the goods. I've had friends start reading it and put it down and say "nope, not for me." But I really encourage you to read it, and give it a shot. If you get halfway and still aren't hooked, then feel free to ditch. I'll even buy your used copy from you.

I think I like it a lot more than most people, but I'm guessing that's because I knew her and found it interesting that she could write something like this. Her writing style is very...aloof, should I say? Lofty? Out there? I don't know how to put it best, read it for yourself.

There is a lot of psychology in this book, it really examines why and how people do the things they do. It's a mix of analyzing why people write, why people love, why people hate, why people coexist with each other, and a few other interesting tid bits along the way (communism, yoga, graphic sex...well not that graphic, but hilarious to me all the same)

Read it, tell me what you think. Buy it, she needs the money and promotion, I'm sure. Single mother doing her thing, worthy cause.

Smart and sexy -- very much a woman's point of view, which means fun for a man to read. This is love + science + new age philosophy wrapped in a spiraling intertextual structure (I'm always a sucker for that stuff...), and now I'm looking at everything through an evolutionary psychology lens. Write another one, Alice!

Absolutely could not get into this novel. I had to read it because the author was my teacher at the time and she made us read her novel as our final project. Needless to say, I did not do well on the report because I just could not finish the book. Kudos to anyone that can.
