Her voice deepened, echoing with every syllable she uttered. Shadows swirled and tumbled around her, spectres of varying shades of dark grey and black. They all moved toward Liliaan, drawn by her show of power. The corner where I was cowering suddenly seemed less dark, yet more dangerous. I felt more exposed than ever, even with the absence of her darkness.
“I have no control over that, you know that! I had your story completely different. I had a whole other direction when I started. You were supposed to have a happily ever after. But, life happened. Everything… happened. After everything that I’ve been through, all the loss that I suffered, d’you really think I would wish that on anyone? On you? Even in the fairy tales, there is pain and loss. You know that. Being as old as you are, seeing what you have, you, of all people, should know. Understand, at the very least.”
“And yet, here we are. You’ve taken my mother, my father, my brother. My entire family has died, by your hands.”
