Faceball

by Stephen Paul

Phil Murphy feels like such a failure. After injuries keep him from reaching the major leagues as a player, he later loses his job as a minor league coach with no interest from any other teams. After deciding to move back to his hometown of Lyman, Ga, he gets an unforeseen chance to manage his own startup team, the Lyman Golden Horses (or Stallions for short) in the newly founded Southern Independent Baseball League. But when a lack of interest and income threaten to kill his dream in the sport he loves so much, he is determined not to allow his last opportunity to fail. When he convinces the league commissioner to tweak a traditional baseball taboo it sparks an interest and excitement that no one could have imagined, even setting the stage for the Stallions to prove they were the best professional baseball team in the state! Faceball is the documentary of that southern eighties summer that sent the baseball world and local airwaves ablaze with a renewed passion for Americas past time. But would all this success come at the cost of his friend, his family, or even himself?
