Turning sixteen in Wisty Air has been interesting with the Sugula looming ever higher in the sky, threatening our world’s very existence. Still, life goes on as I purify monsters, come up with new alchemy recipes, and enjoy seeing my family when I can. Unfortunately, those ordinary days come to a sudden halt when I’m abducted by Edesa Kura! What awaits me in the country of mechanized soldiers?!
Volume 5 of the series leaves me somewhat conflicted. As with previous parts the series pacing is a bit off, spending large amounts of time on developing alchemy and interacting with others in the day-to-day life of the MC. The action on the other hand in general is resolved quickly. Personally I don't mind this too much even if it drags down the tension a bit at times. No, the real reason that leaves me a bit exasperated is how the stupid decisions of several people that make no sense from most of the characters involved propels the story forward. What is more, instead of it having negative consequences, it results in the opposite. It is a trope I am not a fan off. Still, it is a decent ending to the main story, even though the author promises a next volume as a long epilogue of sorts.
Honestly my least favorite of the series so far. Feels like the author wanted to rush through the arc. I'll try the next one still though. Hope it's better.
